Trying to Do a Price Beat with Costco - Not Allowed at One Specific Officeworks Store?

I regularly price match items at Officeworks. This week I found that one store in my state is only price matching, strictly not doing the 5% beat even after a debate and talking with managers explaining every store in the state does it and the policy is recognized at a national level. This defeats the purpose of the word 'Guarantee'. Every single other store does the 5% beat. This store and management have invented their own little obscure rule and are sticking with it. Before I formally report this to regional management, are they allowed to do this? If company policies are set at a national level, it wouldn't seem appropriate for power hungry low level store managers to be overriding this and making up their own arbitrary crap to stop people from getting the discounts they are rightfully entitled to.

Also, since this store has gone rogue - couldn't I just call the 1800 number, get them to price beat and apply the discount online and then click and collect the stock at their store and then laugh in their faces? That would be ideal. This pompous boy scout manager wannabe thought he was pretty cool calling the shots at the front desk, I'd love to show him who's boss.

That's exactly my point, they've broken their own company policy. These people should be given a formal warning or even fired.

It is a national policy - for some reason some staff seem to think the $xx difference comes out of their pay and will protect their multi-billion dollar parent company from any kind of price matching.

Yeah, it's bizarre they act this way. Really annoys me.

  • Out of interest, what is their obscure rule to avoid it?

Costco will be hard to price match as it requires you to pay a membership and they may decline it on this basis as OW is vague for this situation as the general public cannot shop at Coscto without being a member (* you can get in sometimes with being a member, but it is not the normal case).

Also, since this store has gone rouge
nice to see you view the world with rose coloured glasses

That comment makes me see red.

Can't wait until you laugh in their faces, that will really show those low level managers who the big dog in town is!

    • Yeah it's gonna be awesome. Imagine going against company policy to protect a multi billion dollar corporation from getting a discount! These people have lost their minds! It's literally as if it's coming straight out of their pocket, which it's not!

      • So you are sure that regular staff and/or managers don't have KPIs to meet which are linked to bonuses received?

        • Not sure about that, all I know is these people are possibly breaking company policy which means regardless of any other factors, they are in the wrong and should be terminated immediately. I know for a fact they make no commission, unlike jbhifi staff.

  • I thought majority of the stores don’t match or beat Costco as that’s a member only price.

    • Checking the conditions of PBG - Costco membership is not mentioned as an exclusion.

As stated, every store in my state except this one store DOES. So you are wrong.

  • Man you clearly don't value your time much over a measly 5% saving, probably spent more on the return trip to the store in fuel ! what are you exactly buying to complain so much ?

    • 5k worth of products, so the the 5% equates to $250.

UPDATE: successful price beat with the 1800 customer support line. Ordered to the same stupid store and picked up my items. Told the guy on the way out, he said "wow, well done" but I could see on the inside his world had just fallen apart. Mission successful.
