Anime Fans - gather up!

It's been a year since the last Crunchyroll Premium post was made. That deal no longer exists because Crunchyroll decided to Reduce Monthly Prices in Nearly 100 Countries & Territories while ignoring our beloved country (Argentina ofc!). Ironically, Argentina has tripled in price, from ARS $125/month to ARS $379/month and ARS $1250/year to ARS $3799/year (Mega Fan subscription). Since Argentinian rates have been crashing against AUD, the price increase is more like double after converting to AUD. But we're OzBargainers! Double the price? Hell no.

Because Crunchyroll have a love-hate relationship with OzBargain, they decided to significantly reduce the prices of India and Pakistan, who received the biggest discounts of all countries. With today's currency conversions, the price remains very similar to that in last year's deal. Crunchyroll's biggest highlight? …

In India, Mega Fan will change from 9.99 USD to 99 Indian Rupees (87.5% decrease)

However, I had to dig deeper. The biggest price decrease I found was in Pakistan, where Mega Fan changed from 9.99 USD to PKR 250 for Pakistan. That's 88.5% off!

Anyways, the discount between India and Pakistan is quite small, so decide what you want to do…

Luckily, signing up to Crunchyroll is extremely easy and should not take more than a few minutes of your time (I did it in within 2 mins, go figure).

Note

Crunchyroll decided to cancel the majority of subscriptions back last year after being posted on OzBargain, and I'm not sure if refunds were even issued. As a result, I suggest going with the monthly plan to be a little safe, but you do have to sacrifice two months

Instructions

  1. Create a Crunchyroll account or log in to an existing expired account: https://www.crunchyroll.com/welcome/login

  2. Connect a VPN to a server in Pakistan

  3. Go to https://www.crunchyroll.com/welcome and click "view premium plans" OR scroll down to see premium plans. Choose your desired plan and click "skip free trial" (you must skip the trial)

    Possible Problem: You do not see Pakistan prices (PKR)
    Possible Solution: Refresh your browser and VPN, or change your VPN completely

  4. Proceed through payment, enter your credit/debit card and enter a random Pakistan postcode (get a random postcode one here). Crunchyroll does not require an address for sign-up

    All credit/debit cards should work, don't use PayPal

    Possible Problem: You got an "Unauthorised Request" error
    Possible Solution: Add your card into your profile settings then go back to step 3

  5. You’re done! Turn off your VPN and enjoy your subscription :)

    Wouldn't work with my ANZ CC but went through with my debit card which is with a diff bank.
    Such a massive difference in price compared to the AU, hopefully it stays subscribed but will see how it goes.

    I've tried this a million times now and I have given up.
    Hola VPN and Express VPN works, but after a while, it reverts back to non premium, and my card wasn't charged at all.
    Tried with Revolut, Wise and even Zip

        @kelzad I finally got it to work.
        I used expressvpn (but I guess in this case Hola might work as well).
        I missed step 4 of the process. Go to your account, put in your payment info first (but select your location as india/paskistan and a random postcode).
        After I did this step it worked and I got charged.

    Anyone else who signed up back in October find their sub canceled recently?

    Been about a month since i last logged into it and did so last night to find my account downgraded back to free account.

    Had a quick look at TRK, seemed to be around 19.xx after exchange annually … thinking about resigning monthly? Any thoughts guys?

    Express VPN seems to work. I forgot step 4 and kept booting me back to non-premium. Used Commbank card and declined transaction, got Commbank on the chat app to allow transactions… Seems worth it to save $100 a year.

          CBA definitely was blocking me as my netbank had a heap of notifications. But I tried 2 other cards that my wife has and a 3rd card that I have and none of them worked.

    They don't. I've tried 2 visa debit cards, a mastercard and a virtual card from Revolut. Getting an error every time. I've tried with VPN on and VPN off. I am getting Indian prices but I just can't get the payment to go through.

    Anyone figure out a way to bypass this? My cards keep receiving an error too, the payments do seem to be going through as pending charges so I'm guessing the Crunchyroll system is blocking them.

        Very simple, I had a debit card added previously. Used the same payment method to pay now and it worked.

        You might try adding a payment method first on Australian website, then later use VPN to buy in PKR.

    Unsuccessful for me, all cards declined.

    Sounds like they're getting pretty wise anyway. CR seems pretty quick to crack down on regional pricing. I've got stuff running for other services and it's been pretty smooth.

              @dqtl74: try on a fresh account, add your payment method with a postal that matches your bank card then close the tab, turn on your vpn to turkey then head back to crunchyroll, hope this helps, let me know how it goes!

    1. Don't click through via OzB. Won't work. Try using a new browser and type in the address.
    2. Both of my cards got declined. Can't seem to get it to work.

    Combining this with the above report that the premium access disappears after just one hour, it's time to vote this deal down.

    Not worth the effort. Likely will lose the premium access even after you succeed.

    Got this to work. When adding payment method. Use Australia and your postcode. Dont use pakistan stuff. Thabks to Some comments from others.

        I signed up with the VPN on and set to Turkey. When it asks for your payment details I just selected australia and my postcode. The Following confirmation page then had prices in Turkish Lira.

        For the Mega Fan plan I got charged AUD$2.06

      nvm, got it to work with my commbank cc, used the trick posted a few comments above;

      1. use vpn for turkey
      2. once you get to pay screen just put in aus cc and post code

    I know people here are trying hard but…

    1. Tried using HOLA connecting to India. Keeps getting disconnected and when managed to get connected long enough at payment screen. Came back with either "Something went wrong" or any Payment Error message. Using 28degrees/Citi/etc. Even after turning off VPN just before clicking PAY. Already changed the ZIP code to Australia and local postcode.

    2. Tried using Tunnelbear connecting to Argentina. Connection was great but at payment page, came back the same. Either "Something went wrong" or payment error". Tried logging in existing account with connected credit card number (local), when click confirm, it came back with "something went wrong".

    I give up! They did a good job patching their thing.

    And when I finally did exactly the same thing with step 2 except not using VPN and connecting locally, at payment page when I clicked confirm. The payment went through…. in AUD. So they must have patched their region pricing loophole recently.

    Managed to subscribed using an Up card with turkey. Saved my card logged in Au then vpn turkey to sub. Pakistan, lebanon, India don’t work. They’ll charge u for verification (varied amount) but they will not get through. Not sure if you’ll get ur money back. It’s been 5 days since i got charged and still has not come back yet. It was $18.93.

    • In AU, create account and add AU CC as payment method; I used Latitude 28 Degrees card
    • VPN to Turkey
    • When asked to do free trial, click skip trial
    • Use saved payment method

    For anyone still trying to get this to work. A solution that worked for me is to create a new crunchyroll account with another email. I tried multiple cards with my old account and I wasn't able to add a payment method. Created a new account and the first card I tried worked!

    I tried a few times and get "There was a problem with your card. Please try again." on my Amex.
    It takes the money but gives me an error message every time.

    I tried my ANZ debit card and it says Card Number: "This card is invalid."

    Used NordVPN which showed the correct prices but just cant seem to add a card and pay.
