Suggestion of a Vacuum That Really Sucks?

Hi fellow bargainers,

My partner and I are in the market for a new vacuum, I like the idea of a stick vacuum while my partner prefers the idea of a corded barrel style vacuum - she tells me that my opinion doesn't count as I've never operated a vacuum before. We've owned two vacuums, both from Kmart one a corded barrel and the other a cordless stick vacuum, and I'll admit the cheap Kmart stick vacuum really doesn't have much suck.

My question is, does a good quality cordless stick vacuum have the sucking power to keep up with a corded barrel vacuum? I'd like to spend up to $700 odd dollars. I would also consider a robot vacuum, but you can bet she's against them as well.

We have a four bedroom house, wood / carpet floors. Two inside animals and I forget to take my work boots off.

Pls suggest good sucking power vacuum

Cheers

Suggestion of a Vacuum That Really Sucks?

    Try this…

The thing about battery operated stick vacuum is that it doesn't have as much power, but it's more convenient to use so you're more likely to use it more often, resulting in an overall cleaner home.

If you've never operated a vacuum then stop arguing with your partner and buy the corded one already.

Learn to pick your battles. Especially because she's right, the corded ones are better.

        Everyone has a price.

        Depends how dirty it is.

Miele C3 complete cat and dog. Not sure if any better corded ones out there. Forget about battery powered ones if you want good suction.

    • Miele household here. Use an S model one, but one time it sucked up a full size bath towel and didn’t miss a step!

    • Just buy the normal one. Paying a $200 premium just for some attachments

  • We have all 3. Stick vacuum is convenient for a quick clean. We have the corded one for longer cleans or if we needed something more powerful than the stick, eg. spring cleaning, etc, the stick version also only last around 20 mins. The robot cleaner does a round everyday. We used to vacuum every 2 days because we are in front of a busy road, but since we have the robot cleaner, I think we only do it maybe once every 2 weeks or so, more time to do other things……… like browsing Ozb. Lol.

Our stick and also our robot cleaner are the Xiaomi that we got here on Ozb previously. The corded one is a Dyson, which we had for ages. We also had a stick Dyson previously until the battery died, it sucked(pardon the pun) about the same as the Xiaomi, but the Xiaomi is half the price.

BTW, we don't have pets, and have mostly tile floors, if you have pets and carpets, I am not sure the stick vacuum cleaner is strong enough. Best to go with whatever the person doing the vacuuming wants.

      +1 for the robot

The robot has been game changing at our place.

Socks are it’s nemesis but that just means we before it goes on each day we tidy obstacles off the floor and I am constantly amazed by how much it picks up

Cheap stick for quick pet fur collection

Miele C3 cat and dog food great suction

  • Get an ozito or Ryobi wet and dry.

  • We have a ducted vacuum system, a miele cat and dog and 2x Dyson V6 cordless. Only the Dysons get used,( we have 2 because we have one up stairs and one down stairs) plugging and unplugging cords is very time consuming so using the cordless vacuum saves a lot of time and its a lot easier to use.

  • $60 corded from Kogan I think, would suck a golf ball through a garden hose. Best results with fur come from vacuum sweeping backwards though, like a broom.

    • For me Kogan "sucks"

  • I have a ducted vacuum, corded vac (Miele C3) and a robot vac (Dreame D9). Kids, 2 indoor dogs, 1 indoor cat. Robot vac used every 2 days. Miele once every week or two. The Miele has the best sucking power and is easy to use. It's great for raised surfaces and stairs the robot doesn't get to and I can use it for ceiling corners and ceiling fans. I also use it to vacuum the seats and mats in the cars.

If it's within budget, I would suggest getting one your partner likes and one you like. That way both won't complain when having to vacuum and it makes the chore slightly bearable.
