aren't the PET bottles about $22 for 2? Still cheaper than this if you don't need another machine?

  • It’s $89 just for the device and c02 cylinders at Harvey Norman

    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/sodastream-source-element.ht…

Is it worth paying 40 dollars extra for all the other stuff?

    • If you need the machine then yes. Refill is $20 iirc. Bottles are about $11 each.

    • machine only comes with a starter canister.
full canisters are price fixed at $35.

better off buying an aarke for $198 at good guys we got HN to price match GGs. Far better machine! Still need a gas canister at $35.

My adapter hose quickly developed a leak and I lost 6kg of CO2. Turns out they have a crappy quality o-ring inside them. See if they'll swap it out for you or just do it yourself. You can open the adapter using a hex key.

Pretty sure they replaced the o ring in newer versions

        • Maybe? I got mine back in about March.

        and I lost 6kg of CO2

Did you buy some carbon credits to offset it?

  • If you just want a basic Sodastream for sparkling water and don't need extra bottles or syrup, the one Kmart has for $70 is perfectly adequate. I've got it and it's pretty cheap plastic but it gets the job done (and it has been down as low as $50 before) https://www.kmart.com.au/product/sodastream-sparkling-water-…

  • Seems like most things are on sale right now. Struggling to decide which one to go for.

    Jet Hydration Pack for $89
    - Cheaper, but a lower-tier model and only comes with 3x1L bottles and 2 flavours

    Terra Hydration Pack for $138
    - Seems pretty damn similar to the Source Element except it has no LED's and uses the quick connect?
    - Not sure if this means it can't use the adapter hose from kegland

    Art Hydration pack for $173
    - Definitely the nicest looking machine but also uses the quick connect bottles and more expensive

  • Swap it to Pepsi Max and we have a deal!

That being said. Every time I see these things, I wonder, as someone who has on average around 4 litres of soda a day (yes, I've heard it all before, I know), is this ever really going to be cheaper than just buying soda on special? Maxi Ice is 1.35 all the time for a 2 litre in Coles even after Pepsi's RRP has hit 2.80.

Missus had one of these in the past and seeing how much the thing costs to re-gas, the fact I have to re-gas at all, buying the syrup and stuff all that, like, is it ever really going to be a noticeable amount cheaper?

    • I find that I can put more bubbles into the mix with the sodastream.

I personally also didn't care for any flavours so I never add any, just bubbles.

I think previously when I did the math, if you're buying the syrup then I agree that you may not be saving anything worthwhile

It might still be worth it if only to save your back, it can't be an easy weekly shop if you're consuming 4L a day…

    • If you can use it to cut your intake down to even 2L a day of just carbonated water, wouldn't that be worth it in the long term for your health?

    • Yes, those little bottles of Pepsi syrup make 8L and cost $8 = $1/L or almost the same price as buying ready made Pepsi (before including the price of the CO2 refills, machine, plastic bottles). Not worth it at all. I guess if you like plain sparkling water……

      • They make up to 9L and are half price at Coles often (along with the Sodastream flavours) - 9L for $3.50 is much better value.

  • Any of these use glass bottles. I want to make soda water like voss

  • Already have a soda stream. Anyone know where to get any spare bottles for cheap?

    • FB Marketplace they seem to come up now and then. I picked up a half full CO2 bottle the other month for free.
