they sell 64gb ram for more than a mid-low computer lol

      • +1

Imagine the cost of adding in a 4tb ssd 🥵

        • +1

          $1,500 for 4TB
OR you can get a bargain 8TB for $3,300😂

@lachhelix: Life in 2023 on gumtree

“Want to barter a mac for a jetski?”

  • I ordered one of these with the 1tb SSD upgrade the day it was announcement, fantastic computer, handles anything I throw at it! Probably could have gotten by with an M1 Mini but I wanted 3 display outputs and didn't want to deal with DisplayLink.

  • +1

lol! 512gb hard drive and they want almost 3grand for it.

    • +1

well. u could bump it up for another grand, easy.

Apple; we make your dreams reality '$1000 each'

      • +3

        what… another 512gb ssd is $1000? geesh

SSDs are cheap as chips these days

  • +3

    Who on earth buys these?

    • +9
    • the same people who buy ARB off road gear, A45 AMGs and organic activated almonds

    • +1

the cult of "its got better security" being said, two seconds later "apple security breach", that and people who dont know how to do maths

    • Adobe users?

    • Me, my 5 year old Mac still beats the pants off my top of line gaming laptop at work that just chokes while my old Mac just breezes through it. Only upgrading for the form factor. Heck my 2013 MBP is still reasonably fast.

      • +1

But is your gaming laptop really 'top of line' (sic)??

    • great specs with simple form and design for the content creative… bought one to replace my iMac 27"… was anticipating an iMac 27" refresh this year but that didn't happen…

  • +2

I assume this kills PC builds for music production?

Saying that you can build a pretty fast productive PC for half the price.

      • +4

Lol. There's the Mac mini for that for home use.

This is targeted toward a different market segment. You need to understand that there are CPU/GPU heavy workloads beyond gaming.

Chances are, if you're buying this you know what you're doing. Nice fantasy, though

i dunno man, there are some pretty weird people out there

like PC /b/ros who think they NEED dual top of the line graphics cards

@MrThing: What gets me is how so many people are so passionately anti-apple. Why do you put so much energy into discouraging people?

Apple is competition which drives the PC industry forward. This in turn helps you Just look at the Intel situation when there was an absence of competition.

            • @ihfree: competition sure, competitive pricing no

            • @ihfree: FOMO

            • @ihfree: Funny thing, I love my Mac, but i's Adnroid for me as a phone.

            • @ihfree: Because Apple overcharges massively for RAM and storage and has fans that spread false statements to defend such overcharging and lack of upgradability!
e.g The fools that think that having one nanoseconds less signal travel time is some major advantage for the RAM on the M1/M2 over a CPU with upgradeable RAM (look up the "Hopper Nanosecond" for just how far a signal can travel in a ns), bar the fact that the RAM chips themselves have about 100 nanoseconds of latency and thus it does not have any realistic effect on performance (in fact Anandtech measured the latency to be notably worse on the M1/M1 Max/M1 Ultra vs AMD and Intel CPUs with upgradable RAM,).
Then you have all the false claims that the M1 and later are special because of "Unified memory", bar the fact that Intel and AMD have had that same thing for a fair few years (hell, AMD went hard on it with HSA and "Fusion"!) and that it some how magically means that all programs need less RAM, when in reality it only means that a program that makes use of both the CPU and GPU to work on the same data can be programmed to be more efficient.

    • Doesnt kill but its easily compeditive. Nice q quiet too! Unless your scoring films with big sample libraries you dont need much for music production.

    • PCs are better for music, more software and lower latency audio due to ASIO avoiding the buffering that core audio does for it's mixing between programs.

  • +1

This one is overkilled, for most people.
Looking forward to Macmini m2 next month.

    • If you’ve ever overkilled, then you know it can get very, very messy

  • +3

I understand buying an iPad, I understand buying iPhones but this I cannot fathom why you would spend this amount for a machine of these specs.

    • If I had income generating tasks which required the power this provides, I'd seriously consider this over a PC - compact, minimal noise, and decent performance.

    • +1

Prob not for personal use. Aimed at pros in the creative industries (photo, video, post prod, music).

    • +1

if you take games away, this is a bloody fast computer. It is the equivalent of a fairly high end pc with a 3080, but in a tiny form factor & dead silent.

      • It is not even close to a 3080.

        • for various pro apps you bet it is

I have both here to compare.

  • Why do people still buy apple products when it's a known fact that they are using slave labour in their supply chain.

    • its no different from people who protest about animal rights but have no idea the process that happens to get your t bone steak from farm to plate

    • Do you apply that evenly? Do you still buy other brands with labour issues in their supply chains?

      • I do, and its not because I don't know.. its because I don't care

    • Foxconn pays their workers well above Chinese minimum wage. And the suicide rate in Foxconn worker cities is well below the suicide rate in all US states.

  • +3

If you build apps for Apple, there is no other way but to use a mac.
M1 is pretty fast and cheaper compared to Intel-powered Macs.
Even Android Studio performs much better well on these machines.

I got an M1 macbook and is definitely quicker than my intel macbook.
    This is a good price.

  • Is excel still laggy on this? any mac I use excel on seems to be just latency issues with scrolling etc.

not sure if it's a osftware thing.

  • -1

imagine buying an M1 for almost $3k six months after the M2 was released

    • M1 Max

    • +1

Imagine not understanding the product but still posting.

      • -2

Imagine being a litttle apple nerd

        • +2

          Dude, take the loss.

  • Whats it used for? Same price, you can a decent Macbook pro

    • +2

An MBP with a similar config will add about 1500 on top of this price.

      • wow, i see, thanks

  • Thicc boi

  • Seriously thinking of getting one even if it is just for my daily use (I'm not a content creator nor in the media industry)

    • yeah im in the same situation. its so beautiful….
