  • can i come chill (promise not to touch any food or goodies!) even if you hit your cap. My office is literally next door

  • How do we see if we voted? I voted on the first one, then the restaurant choice, but I’m not sure I got in on the final vote.

    • Hi, it should be shaded green if you voted. Can you please revote?

    Update 20/11/2022

I've confirmed the booking with The Bavarian, York St for Wednesday 30th Nov, 7pm. Details are updated in the OP

Please note that attendance for this event will be prioritised for those who:

Rest will be filled later depending on cap etc

    • If you meet the requirements above and would like to confirm your attendance to this event, I will be taking a $5 fully refundable deposit via Beemit. Please write your OzBargain username in the “for what?” field when you make the transfer. This deposit is fully refundable in cash if you show up to the meetup. If you fail to show up, you lose the $5.

      Beemit username: @itsmartin

    • If you cannot pay via Beemit, please pm me so I can send you bank details or PayID

I'm currently in contact with the general manager and final details aren't yet finalised. I've secured a booking for 40 people for now, and will update when I can obtain a higher cap. I will advise when the attendance list nears the cap.

Those coming to this event can choose to dine in to their regular menu OR their AYCE meat platters for $35pp

Those who dine on the regular menu will have to sit at a different table to those taking the AYCE package (I think most would be choosing the AYCE anyway). For those choosing the AYCE meat platters, she has kindly offered complimentary salad and fries as part of the package (usually $10). She has also offered a drinks package (soda, coke, sprite, tonic, coke no sugar, fanta) for $5pp. Thanks to @scotty, he has approved a budget of $40pp for this event, so we may add this drinks package in. As of now, I first have to find out if there will be a 5% service fee (If yes, I'll try get it waived. Otherwise, I'll try work something out as this is an extra $2pp)

I also reached out to @AHUANG from Mobilecity who is happy to sponsor us with free goodie bags on the evening (and he'll try get different items to those goodie bags from the Parramatta event yesterday). I just need to work out the logistics with him (huge thanks to Aaron).

Scotty might also attend this event :)

That's all for now, any questions please ask.

    • What will be done with the $5 deposit if someone doesn't show up? Will you be pocketing it/donating it charity/something else?

      • It'll be used to pay for the no-show fee that many restaurants now have

        • Bavarian is charging you a $5pp no show fee?

          • @bettina44: The manager who’s taking care of my booking haven’t actually said anything but initially someone did say $10. Most people will be coming, I believe the deposit forces people to come as they don’t want to lose $5

          • @bettina44: It's the Bavarian. They charge you 5% for eating there on a weekday …

  • @Jen2023 got your payment but please vote on the poll

  • Hi Op, I do really want to attend the celebration event together with my wife. I haven't participate any yet despite being a member for 3 years, and was unable to attend the CBD one due to unavailable schedule LOL. But I remember I was not the top 50 who voted. May I know how to comfirm my attendence? Shall I just send you the deposit?

    • pm’d

      • +1

Deposit sent and thanks for your hard effort organizing the meetups. Cheers!

  • +1

Thanks for putting things together! I'll see you all there 🙂

  • @yikachu @yenwastaken It seems (unconfirmed) that both of these accounts are made by the same person back to back 4 mins apart from each other, lol. Can you please send me a PM, it's about the deposit I received. Thanks

    • lol caught

    Update 22/11/2022

Effective immediately I will no longer be taking a deposit as spots are reaching (or have reached) the cap.

I will be manually reaching out to you to fill up any remaining spots. It appears many have created new accounts for their +1, +2 etc… which is unfair for the first lot of long time members who actually voted and wanted to come since this post was created. By saying that, I will only be reaching out to you if your account was made before October 2022, and I will PM those whose accounts are from oldest to newest.

If you send a deposit and I have not reached out to you, I will not put you on the list and you will not be able to attend the event.

    Thanks

    • +1

Bit sly creating brand new accounts, why betray your own tribe 😡

    • damn i thought i already voted, seems like it disappeared :( been checking this thread every few days and was away for the weekend and now its gone :(

      • +1

Sorted out. No stress. Please check PMs :)

        • Thanks!

  • Anyone who has an OzBargain account made in 2020 or earlier and would like to attend this meetup, please send me a PM

    • +1

Yeah me thanks lolololol. Jk I might just pop up to say high and mingle. Lmk if you need help with stock but I think Scotty’s got it covered

  • I'm also interested. Could you please add me to the waiting list? : )

    Update 29/11/2022 (Final)

    • Thanks for all your interests. We've had over 100 people vote on the poll as "going" and I totally didn't expect this, but we ended up choosing 55 OzBargainers (the majority who have not attended the Chinatown event) to attend. This year is the first year where I'm hosting these meetups and it'll be a good learning curve for myself, as well as providing suggestions to @scotty from my experience
    • For tomorrow's dine in, the manager has kindly reserved a section for us in the restaurant (Venue: The Bavarian York St). We have a long table of 12 and 4x 'Barrels' (I'm assuming fits around 11 people) to sit at. Generally all attendees have to either all dine in on the regular menu, or the AYCE menu, however the manager have kindly waived this off. However, they request that those people who dine into the 'All You Can Eat' Meat deal will have to sit separately at a different table to those dining on the regular menu.
      • If you are dining on the AYCE meat deal, the manager has offerered complimentary salid and chips. Scotty and myself WILL NOT be paying for drinks - this will be your own cost paid directly to the bar/restaurant)
      • If you are dining on the regular menu, you can order anything you want (including drinks) up to a limit of $35pp as per Scotty's request
    • @scotty will be bringing the last of the t-shirts. Thanks to him for sponsoring this event and all other events!
    • @Mobileciti and @Wireless1 may or may not be bringing freebies/goodie bags to sponsor this event

That's all from me, I hope you all enjoy the food, have a good chat with fellow Ozbargainers and have some fun :)

    • +2

Cheers for your work on this Pennies. You’ve been putting in a full second shift with this organising.

    • Alcohol is included with the $35per person, how good

      • who said?

        • If you are dining on the regular menu, you can order anything you want (including drinks) up to a limit of $35pp as per Scotty's request

          Drinks = Alcohol

          • @Homr: I should have said “non alcoholic drinks”. scotty will not cover alcoholic drinks I think

            • +2

@I Smell Pennies: okok, yes need to be more clearer

I would've ordered $10 fries and $25 worth of beers

      • +2

@Homr You always comment but you never come to the events…

Will we see you next year?

        • +2

Or better yet, organise one next year after complaining that every event didn't suit his schedule

    • +1

      Nice one. We get choice.
AYCE meat, or you can choose your own including dessert.

      A few tips for attendees (based on going to this venue one evening last week);

1). If you want to pay for anything with Rockpool Dining Group GCs expect to be told by the staff that they don't accept them. Just insist they refer to the manager who will process them. The actual process to use these cards is very time-consuming and none of the staff seem familiar with it.

2). A lot of the staff are very inexperienced so make it very clear what you are ordering - I was given a glass of shiraz last week when I ordered chardonnay and was greeted with surprise when I rejected it.

3). There is a lot of bell-ringing when people order schnapps (I think). It is very very loud. Stop what you were saying mid-sentence until after it finishes.

Enjoy the night (I am not attending as I went to the Chatswood event).

      • A lot of the staff are very inexperienced so make it very clear what you are ordering - I was given a glass of shiraz last week when I ordered chardonnay and was greeted with surprise when I rejected it.

Surely they just delivered to the wrong table by mistake rather than getting your order wrong. Red wine is totally different to white wine

        • No. I ordered it at the bar and was given the wrong wine at the bar.

          • @SydneySwan: Oh no, maybe the bartender couldnt hear properly due to the excessive noise in the backgroune

    • +7

Some of the prizes tonight from Wireless1 includes headphones 🎧, a few electric wine 🍷 openers and a Panasonic rice 🍚 cooker 😳

A lucky few of the 55 attendees will be winning (randomly) tonight 😎

Thanks to Wireless1 for supporting OzBargain

    • +4

Mobileciti will be providing all 55 attendees with a Amazfit Gym duffle bag and most of them will have a Mobileciti goodie bag with even more freebies inside.

Thanks to Mobileciti for supporting OzBargain

The Wireless1 prizes will be drawn towards the end so please stay if you want to win :)

      Have fun everyone!

      • +3

Thank you to our sponsors who are unable to make it tonight

I've picked up the prizes and goodies - a sneaky peek of what we have tonight.

Make sure you turn up or you miss your chance to win a rice cooker or gaming headsets!

  • is there any metered street parking in the vicinity after 7pm?

    • I booked at the nearest secure parking for $9 with the NRMA code

    • It's best to catch a train to Wynyard

      • Already costs me nearly $6 for peak one-way into city

        • +1

Good luck navigating around the city in a car during those hours.

Thanks @i smell pennies and @scotty for an amazing party. Nice swag, good food and awesome company! Hope to meet everyone again next year!

  • +1

Thanks Pennies, Scotty & Imposter for your hard works in organising and running the show!

Great to meat you all and 10/10 choice for venue location-wise :)

HMU if you need a hand organising next year, happy to give a hand

  • +2

Had great fun, thanks for organising Pennies and Scotty for funding this, much appreciated!

Shout out to the group who had 1 platter per person each, true Ozbargainers champs lol!

  • +1

Thanks @scotty, @I Smell Pennies for the organising for this event, very nice to see like-minded bargainers :)

My partner just had a sensitive case of alcohol before food and had to bail, but would have loved to stay longer!

Hoping ozbargain social events are more regular and not just yearly birthdays. Do some activites, some brainstorming of events and ozbargain changes/improvements. Potentially get some nice sponsors promoting their wares and need those T-shirts!

    • I agree, we should hold more social events and everyone chips in $5 - $10

      • +2

Feel free to organise it then.

  • +13

Hey everyone, I just want to say thanks so much for coming yesterday! It was very nice meeting new people and I hope you enjoyed the event and the food. Congratulations to those who won a prize, all possible thanks to sponsors @Mobileciti and @Wireless1. And as always, thanks @scotty for making this possible and for your support on all events
