Suggestions for Turning My Air-Con Smart

I'm looking at making my split air-conditioner smart. It's a Mitsubishi heavy industry. I have a Logitech harmony hub, but it doesn't seem to work.
I know Mitsubishi has their own solution, but it's a bit expensive. I am looking at the Sensibo wi-fi controller, but am wondering if you have any other or cheaper suggestions.

      Split systems are hard wired

  • I went with the Mitsubishi wifi controller. Yeah it's $200. The app is okay, the google home control works but can take upto a minute to do anything, but it integrates with Home Assistant really well.

Here's what my home assistant control looks like: https://imgur.com/a/QbPY69x

I can't remember if you can use a logitech harmony hub to record/playback IR commands, if you can do that it should be pretty easy to record the on/off signal?

    • Most aircon nowadays use full instruction so it would be troublesome to record.

A Simple action of lowering temp down from 22 to 21 means sending all information in every transmission, ie Power: On, Mode:heater, Fan Speed: low, Temperature: 21, Swing: Off, Timer: Off and so on…

The signal for an aircon is complex as it sends the temp, fan speed, cooling/heating, louvre direction etc every time you press a button. It's not as simple as telling it to turn on, this means you would need to capture a signal for each combination of settings you'd like.

    This

Broadlink RM4 Mini Universal IR Audio Video Remote Control, Smart Home Wi-Fi Remote Hub, Compatible with Alexa https://amzn.asia/d/b7nlUuw

  • Kmart sell these. Works well enough for $30.

    • That's what I was looking at

  • If you have Alexa or Google (or possibly Siri) you can get an IR remote controller for about $20. These will replace virtually any IR remote control you have in the house. I've got 2 of them to run things in the family room and the bedroom.

With it you can use voice command or routines to operate most devices that use IR remotes including Air Conditioners, TVs, Fans, DVDs, Lights, Projectors, Cameras, etc.

Turn on/off your AirCon, increase/decrease temp, change modes, fan speeds etc. Set automated routines to turn on/off the air-con at certain times or for a certain amount of time.

Go to eBay and type in "smart ir alexa google" you will find quite a few solutions.

I have used Sensibo for years. Always been reliable. Think it was around $150 a few years back.

Another vote for the Sensibo, is often on sale, works with Google. I just turn Airco on and off with voice commands..Tried Mirabella from Kmart, wouldn’t work with my Fujitsu

Yet another vote for Sensibo. I like being able to see the current room temperature and humidity via the app as well

  • I bought this a couple months ago very happy with it.
There are youtube vids how to set it to all temps using Google/Alexia voice.
I couldn't be bothered just use mine to turn on the last temp it was set to and tell it to turn off at a certain time.
