Are You Brand Loyal, Do You Go Back?

Hey guys,

Everyone loves a deal, bargain, discount etc….. but when you come across a brand and/or company that you never purchased from before based on a deal (here) or a friend or advertisement or whatever medium you saw the deal from, do you go back to the same brand and/or company and buy again even if there's no deals?

Mostly my threads spawn from chats from friends lol, I was speaking with a friend on buying products and if we go back to the same brand and/or company if we had a good experience whether or not there's a deal or if I first think of the brand and/or company first before looking elsewhere.

For example, with me, I was shopping for a new keyboard and my first company I went to was Mwave to check out the keyboards but then I would search staticice to see if there's a cheaper price for X keyboard which I found which was $40 cheaper than Mwave, but Mwave couldn't price match when I asked so I went with the other company. I assume and conclude this puts me into the 'not loyal' category but I do think of that company first because I had a good experience with them but I have to watch out for my own financial pocket first.

  • Unless it is a charity, why would you pay full price when a discount is available?

Brand loyalty and retailer loyalty are 2 different concepts here. You seem to be talking about the latter.

I would most likely always go back to Logitech mice but I don't care where I would buy it from specifically. Whatever is cheapest/most convenient/quickest and assuming has the same warranty.

    • ^ This. But always happy to try other brand if significant discount is found on ozb

  • Depends for me. For example, people complain about RMW but the factory is a local employer here. I've had students get apprenticeships there. I dont pay over price (youll always find me at the annual sale) but I'll preference them over someone else.

Same with milk (i buy the options both produced and bottled locally), I get San Remo pasta for the same reason.

    TL;DR - Adelaidean's are a parochial bunch 🤷‍♀️

  • brand loyal only if they're customer loyal. (new customers dont count)

I have a local supermarket where most things are the same price as colesworth but some items are more. The service I get is substantially better than colesworth, so I often choose to go there.

I went to my local IGA the other day and the owner served me. I asked for a bag and he just scanned and gave me the bag to bag my shit myself. Maybe he was in a bad mood or something. I guess with Aldi and most of Colesworth expecting people to bag their stuff themselves he must feel like a bit of a chump bagging my stuff for me.

      • Did you feel like a chump bagging it by yourself?

        • I sure did feel like a chump. I know his rent must be low so I'm wondering why am I paying the inflated prices if I'm bagging it myself. I could go to Aldi or Woolworths, which is actually cleaned regularly, and pay less.

  • I’m only loyal to the bargains

  • I can be loyal to brands, but I'll go find the smallest amount that I need to spend to get it (within reason, of course - ie, I ain't driving a few kms to save $5 off a $50 item or I'm not willing to wait a few days postage to save $50 off a $500 item if I can get it straightaway!)

  • Yes, but only with massive discounts like at least 60% off (prefer 80% though). Most my clothes are sportscraft and paying $40 for a pair of $140 jeans or $29 for a $119 shirt is nooiice.

not necessarily brand loyal, but I would pay extra for Australian made vs a cheaper Chinese version of the same product. I guess I am country loyal.

I notice a lot of people buy fakes, which I absolutely hate and disgusted by. What people don't realize is that there are funding crime, paying for child labour, hazardous conditions, lead paint, harmful chemicals, etc….
worst part is that they think no one knows there fake, jokes on you, we all know it is fake.

    • What people don't realize is that there are funding crime, paying for child labour, hazardous conditions, lead paint, harmful chemicals, etc….

Lol what. So Gucci, Apple, LV etc are all exempt from these things? You think people are not exploited in 3rd world countries by them? Hell, Amazon exploits people in 1st world countries!

  • It's a very broad question.

I imagine like most people, I have a reasonable level of brand loyalty on some things, down to practically none on others.

In the first category are things that you just want to work, that you have used before, that suit your use cases, and where you know (and want to know) exactly what you are getting.

In the second category are things that are very much consumables, the classic "commodity products" where you are happy to try different things, take a punt, etc. as they are usually pretty cheap and if they don't work you just move on when you need to make the next purchase in a few days/weeks time.

  • Buy when there’s no deals?
I’m not familiar with the concept.

  • Anyone wonder if these sorts of polls are just done by marketing agencies who don't want to pay for the data?

  • I assume and conclude this puts me into the 'not loyal' category

not overpaying $40 !?! - it puts you in the 'not stupid' category.

    • Wow. That’s judgemental.

  • The issue with this question is that the answer will always be "it depends".

I am generally brand loyal to a limited extent - if something has worked well for me in the past, I'll tend to go with that same brand again even if it's a small premium over a competing brand. If it's a large premium, then I will consider the competing brand. I assume this is the majority position amongst most people.
