    Is it a price error?

No, it was an eBay Tuesday deal.

I realise it was a deal, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was an error too. I mean, $159 with an additional $90 discount??? Lego's RRP of this set is $250. Big W had it at $219, and on sale for $159. After an in-depth study (2 minutes on Google), it seems like 35-50% markup (depending on the size of the set) isn't unusual, and when sales are on, you'd usually expect the supplier to discount things as well.

So… At RRP $250, you'd think that's something like $125-$150 cost, so Big W's normal $219 is profitable — and when they have it on sale for $150, you'd expect their cost to have been discounted too, so would still expect a profit.

But at $69… there's no way I can see that covering cost. But let's be generous and assume a 50% cost — so $34 profit per item. Selling 1k units would give them $34k profit. But the way I see it, they could have easily sold these for $99, or even $119 or more. Would they have given up $30-$50 profit per item — or $30k-$50k overall?

My feeling is that this was an error somewhere.

        • You must be new here…

eBay also covers a portion of the discount as they work with BigW to make these deal possible every week

        • Yeah it's an unusually generous deal in terms of quantity and price, but not too far out of the ordinary for these eBay Plus deals. They usually deep discounts on things like 200 units of AirPods for $99 (50% off).

          Gift horses and all that…

Looks like it's a price error… I don't think they will honour the price.

They sold 1498 today, but only 1000 units in the picture.

        • To be honest, $159 is still a decent price, which might explain the ~500 additional units above 1k, but $69 was insane.

  • Great deal. Picked up one.

  • Thanks OP, got a set this morning

  • right now its $6

This appears to be an ebay error. When you click the “go to deal” link here it takes you to the $6 train deal instead (by a different seller). Big W appear to have deleted their listing, and it seems that ebay is detecting the $6 train as the best current deal.

I actually purchased the $6 train, but it turns out ebay is showing the wrong product, because when you purchase this item you actually purchase a set of window parts for the train instead.

The first thing that came into my mind was whether it is some type of scam, but it doesn't seem to be, because ebay itself is actually showing that I purchased 3 different types of items!

The seller (highly rated) has been good about it and is refunding the $6. Apparently he is getting inundated with people buying this part today!

      • Confirmed… ebay bad, seller good.

  • Thanks OP. Mine’s been shipped.

    • Enjoy your set of window parts 0.o

  • BigW just cancelled order. Dodge.

    • When did you order? Was it within the first 1000?

      • -1

        Duno, still dodge

    • Mine was definitely out of the first 1000 but I got a shipping notification email.

  • FWIW I've already received mine. It was shipped from Big W Hoxton Park.

  • Anyone else still waiting?

I received a tracking number but it's still in 'packing ' status since 2 Nov.

    • Yes, I keep getting a message it's out for delivery each day but never arrives

      • That sucks.

I contacted them and they sent it the next day. Then received it the day after.
