For those that missed out on the sweet $220 Harris Tech deal via ebay, looks like Amazon has the drives for $20 more (so not the best price but better than what others are selling for online).

For those interested these are CMR drive so ideal for NAS

Other specs:

7200 RPM
256Mb Cache
Power On Hours 8760 (24x7 operation)
8.8W Operating Power
7.6W idle Average
Workload Rate Limit of 180Tb

Worth noting that the all ironwolves 10Tb and above use less power and are quieter (to varying degrees) so I suspect they are using higher density platters for those models.

There is a variant of the 8Tb which has a higher workload limit but as far as I've seen they are not available in Australia.

I'd be weary of getting hard drives from amazon. They put it in a box with no proper packaging around it to protect it. I've ordered 2 from there and both were DoA. Never again.

That is only for Amazon UK/US. Amazon AU are always very well packaged.

      • One was US one was AU. Both packaged poorly. This was about 2 years back now, so maybe they've changed?

FWIW the drives I received via Amazon US from this recent deal seemed to be packaged acceptably, admittedly I've not yet tested them though.

    • I ordered 4 times from Amazon AU and they were properly packed. As someone else also said, it's may be for Amazon UK/US whereas Amazon AU packs it properly.

    • I had one HDD shipped via Amazon from a large retailer and it was packaged very poorly and the drive was DoA. Perhaps the ones sold by Amazon AU are better?
