Pricey, but it's expensive technology and currently one of the best spec VR systems for the money.

For comparison:

  • PS VR2 is USD $549.
  • Quest Pro is USD $1,500.
  • Valve Index is USD $1,000.

Comments

  • Wow. Just wow.

  • Jesus… Call of the Mountain looks good, but there's no way I'm spending that much yet. Nothing much else that I'm interested in playing.

Reviews and early impressions seem good though!

I barely touched my PSVR1. What a waste of money that was.

  • +1

    sony smoking something different hah

  • +2

That much money and you don't even get the console with it?? Geez. They'd have to have a lot of pretty amazing games for anyone to even consider it.

I don't know anything about any of the listed games in the OP except that Hello Neighbour is the worst game I have ever played on Switch.

  • Woooooo
i've been waiting for pre-order notifications

  • +2

I spend a lot of money on video games but I've always thought of the PSVR as a complete gimmick.

You could just wait a year or two and buy someone else's dusty 2nd hand VR2 set at a discount.

As someone who has owned the OG Vive, Vive Pro, Steam Index and Meta Quest 2…

Yeah no. VR is a gimmick at best and nothing on their will hold your attention (nor does your head really want to be in a headset that is hot and sweaty) if you're an average person for more that 30 mins at a time. Until the tech is comfortable, light and doesn't feel like you're wearing a heated screen on your face, then it's only good for short burst games like Beat Saber etc.

And this is from someone who played through Alyx and RE4 (two of the best VR experiences out there by a LONG margin).

I remember playing Alyx on the Index and being like - holy **** this is the future of gaming! And nothing has ever come close to it since.

Until the tech is comfortable, light and doesn't feel like you're wearing a heated screen on your face

Woah when did you get to try out the PSVR2?

      • -1

Yes because I'm sure it's going to different to every other headset. Definitely brand new tech that doesn't have heat / a screen etc.

        • Yes because I'm sure it's going to different to every other headset

          Exactly.

          • +2

@ThithLord: A lot of people rate PSVR1 as the most comfortable VR headset, this seems similar in design but lighter again so I don't think it should be too bad.

            • @McFodder: Hey happy to be proven wrong.

But speaking from my years of VR experience, I'm not holding my breath. Especially from tech from Sony.

          • @ThithLord: I'm amused you think tech from Sony is going to be somehow cutting edge. Good luck with your 1k purchase :)

  • +1

Will this work with my PSP?

    • I think they're coming out with a cardboard version for PSP

  • +3

Hybroid thank you for this news! That's so awesome! November 15 for Pre-Orders, I'm in the second it's available. I absolutely loved PSVR1, VR2 is going to so much better

  • I'm confused about the stereo headphones.. I dont see it in the pics. Is it integrated into the VR unit? Is it a standalone set that can be also used while not playing VR games? Is it the Sony Pulse 3D headset?

If it is standalone then they should really be offering a package without the cost of the stereo headset. Many would have bought headsets to pair with the PlayStation already. I doubt those ppl will want another headset which they pay for but won't be using

  • +1

Brutal pricing. Would strongly recommend anyone looking at VR skips this and goes for a Quest 2 or waits for a Quest 3.

Wireless VR is the future and if you have a decent WiFi router, you have a way bigger library between Q2 native and PC VR games.

    • +2

Wouldn't you also need a 'brutally priced' gaming PC for PC VR games?

      • Sure, but the Quest runs a lot of great games standalone.

A full PCVR rig is going to be expensive (but if you already have one, a Quest is not much more on top of that).

  • Much higher pricing than I thought it would be. But I also heard PS5 is getting a price hike as well??

Wasn't the previous PSVR1 add-on like $250?? or was that on sale?
I expected PSVR2 to be $300 to $450 but this is almost double that amount.

Also is that a cable I see in the product picture? So it's no wireless? I thought wireless would be possible with tech now and especially at this price range.

    • I expected PSVR2 to be $300 to $450 but this is almost double that amount.

Nah, that would be the price of PSVR1 when it's not on sale. Was fully expecting the price of PCVR2 to over AUD $800, but that was before the recent PS5 price hike. Stuff is expensive these days.

It's a single unified cable, so not wireless, yep.

I won't be getting one at launch, but will see how prices go after a year or so.

      • That makes sense. I found a deal for the old PSVR1 it was $270 on sale not $250.

    • +3

The first PSVR was around $550, plus you needed a camera and possibly the move controllers if you wanted to experience that sort of movement.

  • +2

This has eye-tracking with foveated rendering. $880 for such a high tech device is well worth it.

  • +1

    Disappointing to hear on price.

I was pretty excited for this but not sure I can justify that price. Hopefully they have some elite level specials but can't see that happening. Ahh well.

  • +2

PSVR1 was launched for USD399, but you also had to buy the camera (USD50) and move controllers (USD100).

    It's basically the same price.

    • -1

PSVR1 Starter kit looks like it included the camera in the box. And I remember seeing this in-store for the same price $270 (now I realize this was sale price).
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/704208
Not sure if "Started kit V2" has anything to do with it, maybe Starter kit V1 didn't include camera?

  • i suspect its going to be a bit more than $879.95 and $959.95. Australia tax would probably push it to $950 for standard and $1000 for horizon bundle

    • I thought they were the official prices?

If OP did a straight conversion from USD and added GST it would likely not round out to a nice price of XXX.95 for all three options.

      • Hope its the official price, it is huge but hope its not going to be 1000 for the set

  • +1

woooots preorders are up. im in

    • Who did you go with? Amazon were taking forever to list it so I pre-ordered with JB so as not to miss out.

      • +1

i went with jbs as i had some giftcards i accumulated from cashbacks and amex offers. i also stacked with some microsoft bing points. Shame you cant put a deposit on preorders. i would have paid the rest in other form of discounted giiftcards
