I wonder if this means PSVR2 is coming sooner than expected if they're starting to clear this one out. Rumour is 2023 sometime.

Either that or they just don't expect anyone to buy this anymore since there's a new one coming.

    • +5

We just had a PSVR2 game showcase this morning from Sony. There were rumours PSVR2 was to be released end of this year but does seem like pushed out to 2023 now, especially with comments like:-

TWDSS Ch2 is coming to PS VR in late 2022, and is in development for PS VR2.

I don't recommend people buy this PSVR1 nor the $329 Megapack which comes with 5 games at the moment. It's quite outdated tech now.

      • I cannot imagine PSVR2 available for less $500 or even $750. The tech will be amazing, so I doubt they can keep the pricing low.

So it might be too expensive for some people.

    • +1

Well they've been out of stock in most locations for months and have only really just bounced back. At this point this really should be the standard price too. They've dropped this low on and off for about three years now at least.

  • Darn, no online and local stock levels = 0

  • Can someone compare this to Oculus 2 (in screen quality/experience only)?

    • +4

I only have the Quest 2, not PSVR but the quest 2 is excellent for tethered or untethered play. Meaning you can use it without a PC to play native titles or if you plug it in or wirelessly connect via AirLink you can play tons of Steam VR content. Not needing a console or PC to play games is sick.

Terrible in comparison, insanely bad screendoor effect.

      • +1

Thanks. Have decided to not pull the trigger. Will wait for PSVR 2. Have Oculus Go and Oculus 1 Gen to keep me rolling till then

    • +1

I have both, and I definitely prefer the Quest 2. The graphics look much nicer and feels more responsive than the PSVR. I would only suggest getting a PSVR if you want to play PSVR exclusives, but it's still a solid VR headset

    • Just get oculus. And dont forget to ask for referrals, worth $47

    • The psvr is barely vr, it's so old. The quest 2 is high quality, even without a PC the actual vr experience is miles and miles ahead.

    • I have a PS VR and a few other VR headsets.

For the cheaper end of VR headsets, get the Oculus 2.

That said, if you want to dip your toes into vr and not sure if you want to commit $500+ for an Oculus or $1000 for a good PC headset…..

      $269 worth the spend.

Just ordered on amazon can anyone tell me if any good

    • +12

Yes very good , work perfectly for handful times then back in the box dusting 😉

      • +1

You haven’t tried beat saber or Astrobot I guess?

        • +5

I did, and they were amazing, and the headset has been sitting on the shelf ever since

    • +1

Just bought a car can anyone tell me if any good

      • Depends. Is it a DeLorean?

  • +14

I found this pretty lack luster without the move controllers, so add that into the cost. The oculus quest is more expensive but so much better in every way.

    • +7

It's lacklustre in general. Do not recommend.

I got mine ages ago for a crazy price, kept it for a week or two and sold it.

Fit sucks (esp if you wear glasses), amount of cables sucks (whatever you're estimating this to suck, 5x it), resolution sucks, no move controllers indeed sucks.

It's not the VR experience you're looking for but I guess it is cheap.

      • The gimmick wore out quite quickly. I remember trying it with GT Sport. That was horrible.

        • +2

Ha racing games made me almost vomit, that was way too close for my brain, I do get travel sick in real life.

I guess that's kind of neat though, in a good bad way.

          • +1

@eagerfisherman: I made myself do one lap in Wipeout VR. I was pretty ill for a few hours after. Looked amazing though.

      • +3

It isnt that bad, for $269 its fine. Some stuff just doesnt suit it, but I had a lot of fun with superhot VR.

You wont be using it every day but for the odd gameplay session its fun. Dont get it intending its going to be a great headset for every day use.

(I play VR most days, but I have a HP Reverb G2).

  • +1

Just saw EB have it for $278, or the Mega Pack with 4 more games (including 3 of my favourites in Moss, Astrobot, Blood and Truth) for $318 - worth the extra if you're going to jump in I'd say.

Blood and Truth is much more fun with the move controllers though, which are hard to find last I heard and an extra expense.

    • +4

Fyi for anyone considering the bigger bundle, if you have been subscribed to playstation plus for a while you may have those games besides Blood and Truth and Everybody Golf.

      • That's true - I picked up almost this same bundle before that happened so had forgotten.

  • +4

Pretty shit system tbh. Move controllers are so ancient. PSVR2 is coming soon imo.

    • As a current owner I’d have to agree.
Not a huge lot of contents and while Blood and Truth is good fun, I can’t help but think how much better it’d be once they ditch the camera and move controllers.
If you’ve already waited this long, might as well wait for psvr2 if you’re not strapped for cash.

  • +5

    a 5 years old product… i will wait for vr2

  • JB Hifi have it for $269 as well….must be clearing it for vr2
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/playstation-vr-with-camer…

    • I think in the US they cleared them out ages ago. Maybe people were still paying rrp for this massively out of date vr set here in aus so they kept it high.

  • +2

    Vintage at this point

  • See I'm torn on this. So many mixed reviews this late in the game and I've yet to jump into VR at all. Adding the move controllers into the equation is an even further value buzzkill. Then there's the fact the resale value on this would tank come its successor. Decisions, decisions.

    • +5

Even as this price point, it's not worth jumping at this time.

      • +2

It could be worth considering at $100 to $150.

    • +2

I got one recently without the move controllers and the time I have spent using it with the VR games playable with a dualshock I have already accumulated from PS Plus, etc. and being able to use this with a PC & SteamVR it has justified the spend. Games are also often special too.

Obviously it's in end of life with PSVR2 coming but I think it's still a good entry into VR without spending what other headsets cost.

    • +1

Get the Oculus 2, its not that much dearer and 100x better as you can go wireless.

Its under $500 and its at about same level as the better headsets out there with resolution etc. To get something a lot better, you are spending tons more on something like the value index with better tracking, but similar resolution.

  • +4

You really need to buy the PS Move controllers to enjoy this.
Beat Sabre and Super Hot awesome.
I also enjoyed the Time Carnage and the Rick And Morty game.

Couldn't get into the racing games or games where you move around a lot because they make me feel sick.
Hopefully the PSVR V2 won't have this problem.

  • +2

Is it fun? I'm bored of games

    • I like mine. But still waiting on the Ps5 adapter for 2 months now..

      • If you buy these new packs it comes included.

  • +1

    Interested in psvr2

  • +2

VR porn requires weird conversions. Do not recommend. Seeing two of Debbie rather than the 3d scope really throws things off.

    • +1

      "Twins? Again?"

    • Now this is critical info. Much appreciated.

  • I just moved the ps4 pro to the bedroom as mainly gaming on X Series X in the lounge, and making room for a PS5 at some point.

Smaller tv on wall in bedroom but that doesn’t matter for VR games.

Haven’t used VR for a year so might give it a whirl this weekend. Me feels like some astrobot time!!

Hey - anything else you can use the Playstation gun rifle thingy on? I bought it to use for Farpoint but big spiders freak the shiz out of me so will never go on with that one!!

    • The rifles a worth a fair bit now so could try sell it?

      • Cool. Looked it up. The Aim controller does seem to fetch okay prices. Do they not manucature it anymore?

I will prob hang onto it for now.

      • lol I have one here Ive never used. I really should give it a go!

    • yeah there a heist game which can use the rifle attachment I think

  • +1

Whoever buy, please share your regret in the next week :)

  • +3

Damn, that’s a steal. Even with psvr2 next year, it’s only for ps5. So ps4 gamers, enjoy the crap out of this amazing peripheral.

  • PS4 Pro hacked + PSVR is probably some good fun.

  • The pack with astro bot and 4 other games are they all download codes or physical?

    • Download codes.

  • TrinusVR makes it work with PC too. Quality is much better than what the PS games output.

  • Way better off putting that towards a Quest 2 for mine. No fiddling around with cables, controllers, console and telly so you'll actually end up using it and it's not just for gaming either (BigScreen, Prime VR, Horizon Worlds etc great for movies, sports, music, chatting and the Oculus browser for you know what wink-wink and so on).

  • Does it work without PlayStation? Like can I use my mobile phone like another cheap Vr available in market?

    • Only for PlayStation afaik bud.
