Vodafone Pocket Wi-Fi 2 - $49 at Coles

20

So I've been trying to get my hands on a portable wifi device. The Vodaphone deal at Big W was ideal, but all the local stores to me had sold out. So I was looking around. The one on the Vodaphone site is $52, this beats it by $3 :D.

I was able to unlock it for a further $13 through DC unlocker and it's now working perfectly with my Telstra Pre-Paid sim.

I'll post a pic of the receipt when I get home from work.

did that a few months ago when dicksmith did it @39.50

    • Unfortunately none of my local Officeworks stocked them either :(. But yeh if you can do that! This is for those that are running out of options due to stock.

  • Vodafone, lol.

      this is the correct spelling

      • It sure is. Not what I was laughing at… ;)

you were laughing its network, weren't you? :)

          No, never!</sarcasm>

  • I'd be more interested in an ASUS WL330N3G, that I could plug any 3G dongle into (eg, ones that come with a few GB's of data).

MSY's price of $72 seems a bit much for it… Any lower prices around?

(It does 6 different things, including acting as a WiFi access point for the dongle you want to share via WiFi.)

  • Not sure if this will work on the Telstra Next-G network.

    Office Works specs say:
    "Network Support: HSUPA/HSDPA 2100/900"
My understanding was that Next-G HSUPA ran on 850MHz.

Anyone care to confirm or contradict this unit's Next-G capability?

    • Are you referring to pocketwifi2 or ASUS router? If it's pocketwifi, it is definiely 850mhz supported

  • The ASUS WL-330N3G "6-in-1" is small & works well.

(Use included CD for quickest install & full manual; getting started sheet only covers some of the 6 functions.)

One issue: How to configure it for secure WiFi access, ie, -from- the device? (By default, it configues for Open Access… very risky / potentially costly when using 3G mobile Internet.)

(Oh, it could -maybe- run [too?] hot in Summer… Keep it cool.)

  • Yes, but this is Vodafail.
