Can someone advise a good extraction or a sweet spot for the Barista Pro (Sumatra Blend) - I've been trying to dial it in left right and center but pulling an acidic shot every time. Thank you in advance

    • +1

can you tell us your current dosage, yield, time and temperature?

      • Thanks for the reply darkkito! Dosage 18g, yield target 36g, time 25-30s and I've tried it both at 50% and 25% temperature setting on the Barista Pro.

        • +2

If you are getting the exact said result the taste should good based on the YouTube videos?? I struggled to get it with Sumatra beans but after switching to Aldi Brazil, I now have the perfect result and taste I like.

        • Sumtara itself is relatively light roast, you might want to actually turn the temperature higher and also just consider light blends generally tend be more fruity and floral.

        • +1

If that time includes the pre-infusion, then add another five or even ten seconds to the extraction time and see how it tastes.

    • I've been trying to dial it in left right and center but pulling an acidic shot every time.

are the coffee fresh enough? I had some sumatra blend which were about 3-4 weeks old, and they no longer can pull nice chocolate flavour, no matter how i do the grind nor timing of shots.

But if the beans are fresh, i use 20g, and get 37-39g out, and the pressure is high - almost at the max pressure, basically reach just before the machine purges excess pressure i think (i.e, it does not go higher if i go even finer and tamp harder).

Temperature is at max - sumatra blend is light roast, which high heat should work nice for.

    • Also having this exact issue. Roast date was 31/10 though so waiting on the company to advise peak time for beans (possibly 1 week after roast).
For the moment, super acidic and not enjoyable.

      • Hey Canberra, interesting! Roast date on my packet is the same (31/10). Will wait till the 1-2 week mark and see how it goes. But yeah currently with all right dosage, yield, time and different grind setting pulling a very acidic shot every time. Will keep trying..

        • Have you tried other beans other than Airjo?

        • 1 week from roast date, and beans are slowly getting better..still some acidity.

As Sumatra is a lighter roast, you can also infused at higher temp too (94-96°C). Let me know how you go.

Wish Airjo would have recipe guides on their website..have emailed them and also messaged via OzB. Nothing yet.

In these times of weekly rate rises sadly I'm going to have to pass at this price.

I think you can get 25% anytime as a "VIP" customer by scanning the QR code on your current bag.

  • Hopefully something like 50% off for Black Friday.

I've been buying Sumatra beans for well over a year now. IMO this is not a good deal considering there's usually frequent 30/40% discounts on the beans that bring them to a reasonable price. The Sumatra is what I'm familiar with and that has moved from a single origin to a mixed blend while the base price has also increased by 10%. At 25% this isn't a bargain, it should be considered RRP on what is an inflated item cost.

Happy to retract my neg if others think the pricing is a bargain on the other blends.

    • If your edit offer does not make your day then it's useless to spent 30 to 40 or whatever amount you think is bargain. Buy small batches and always buy fresh.

      • Hey mate, not sure what you're saying here. I get around the stale issue by freezing the unused beans and I'd only ever buy these beans on 40% off or I'd go to my local roaster.

        • If your coffee* does not make your day, auto correct did this lol

          • @sqheaven: Aaah, classic auto correct - it gives and it takes

Totally agree, much prefer these When they were a single origin. Probably won’t buy theirs again now.

I recommend Enterprise blend if anyone is a first time buyer

+1 although I do find Colombia a little smoother. But I don’t hear it mentioned much here.

  • Worst coffee supplier. Go for Sicilia and Pablo‘s & Rusty’s if you want a good coffee supplier. Sicilia is always offering good coffee for a reasonable price. They still have a 10% discount CHEERS10 or THANKS10. Please don’t fall for high discounts from such ridiculous prices. Pablo’s and Rusty’s sometimes offer 50% on the first 3 deliveries for a subscription, cancel anytime. Last time I got Porter Street for $17 per kg delivery free!

    • Pablo and Rusty's is a complete rip off though.

      • +1

I cannot confirm that. I was always happy and always signed up for 50% off then canceled after 3 deliveries and signed up again when running out of stock.

    • +1

Seriously mate you got some bad coffee once or twice, let it go.

    • +1

I used to always order their coffee. Now that they've increased their prices by 10% and lowered their discount I have ordered from Sicilia. Thanks for the recommendation. I ordered their Strong sampler 4x 250g and applied the 10% discount code. I'm actually excited to get it now.

You have posted similar comments on every single airjo coffe posts and recommended Pablo's & Rusty's - and it can make people think that you are associated with them. If you aren't, please stop - because you aren't doing them a favour.

If already have a packet from Airjo, you scan the QR code on the back and it will give you a code for 25% off. Did it recently when I was desperate and there were no deals.

    • True, so this 25% is nothing special. Did u get free shipping?

      • Yep, came within 2 days.

  • +6

I’ve been a regular for ages but after the Sumatra deal last week having limited stock & this being only 25% and not the usual 30% + given the last price rise… time to boycott;)

    I'll pass
