Can Police Tell Your Profession from Their in-Car Computers?

I drive a modified car. When I occasionally get pulled over, they seem to have more respectful after they do a licence check/computer activities. I understand that my fairly clean record would help this

So can they?

I drive a drug dealer spec car. Been tailed quite a few times but never pulled over.

They run your plates, if you dont drive like a tool, have a clean record ; driving and criminal they leave you alone.

My daily Kia might as well have a cloaking device. If you want to commit crimes, get a Kia.

    • Tell me more about this drug dealer car

      And kia cloaking device

      • Three year old Mercedes. Black.

  • Professional Tik Toker. But jokes aside, it does matter if you are a federal judge or a plumber. Everyone has to obey the law.

  • "they seem to have more respectful after they do a licence check/computer activities. I understand that my fairly clean record would help this"

No idea what this means, doubt a cop would either.

Absolutely not , there is not even a section on the in car screen for occupation. Why would we want to know.

Of course I had the similar question asked by bloke once. I just pointed to the " Gary's plumbing " on side of his ute.

    1) Car not linked to previous involvements or reports of poor behaviour. Check.

    2) Clean driving history. Check.

    3) Respectful tone/interaction with police. Check.

= Police returning the respect given and not giving you a hard time. Completely reasonable imo.

So many people fail some or ALL of the above, and then wonder why the cops don't like them :).

  • Of course, LinkedIn is their go-to portal for all police-related matters.

  • No, police have no access to see what your profession is unless you tell them. Unless you flag for having a security licence. How would they have that?

If the car is registered to you then they have already done a check on you and know your history with police/driving record.

If it's registered to a business then they would only see you history after speaking to you.

You're a high school English teacher?

*Are you … a high school student ?

  • The government knows everything about you. It's no use trying to hide.

  • I got pulled over once playing this song with my windows down.

cop told me they are just doing a random breath test.

    Really….!!!

In the past I have been pulled over, pretty much because of the car I drove.
I got pulled over, I asked why I was pulled over, he said doing a random breath test, he did not do the breath test.
I don't think I recall he even checked my license, I think it was expecting some young p plater dude and not some old dude. He said I could go, but I kept getting inconvenienced by being pulled over for no reason besides the type of car, super annoying. Was a typical p platers car at the time.

  • Perhaps someone else, also drives the car, and the policy enforcers wanted to see who the driver was? Our x-next-door neighbor drove a highly customized VE, his profession was dealing.

    • Car dealer?…

      • Perhaps, different cars were coming and going throughout the whole day.

  • perhaps actually being able to produce a license and talking coherently helps? presentation also makes a difference. stereotypes exist and not seeing a stoned 18yo behind the wheel may change their attitude

  • My friend been pulled over so many times in my Champagne Coloured camry with a corner dent.
And asked if he was an Uber driver.

    Weird flex but okay.

  • I got asked once by a police officer during a stop, so I'd say no they don't have that info.

That would probably be the work of a detective to chase up that level of info.

  • As someone who drove highly modified cars for years, And also had some bad fines when i was younger.

I was always polite and respectful and police were the same. My car wasn't 100% ADR legal but i was never confrontational and never got a ticket for exhaust etc.

They would pull me over regularly though..

  • Only if it's been recorded via some previous interaction with police such as when you have either been charged with an offence or reported an offence as a victim etc… otherwise no, it's not recorded.

  • If you drive a Jeep they’ll pull it over just to have a laugh at your bad decision making

  • I’m a professional criminal and they are always nice to me when they pull me over.

  • Since the removal of gender from the license they have additional information for identification purposes. After all them many Smiths's, Jones and Singh"s must be somehow be able to keep them apart?

  • reminds me..

    ARE YOU A COCKY JUDGE?

  • When I moved to Australia with my JDM WRX, I used to get stopped regularly, initially. Sometimes, in a queue with several other similar vehicles. However, once the officer heard my European accent, I would pass the attitude test and would be pulled from the queue and sent on my way with no questions or checks. It was like 'these are not the droids you are looking for'. And, then they stopped pulling me over at all.
