Citi Clear Credit Card: $400 Cashback ($3,000 Spend in 90 Days), $49 First Year Fee (Save $50)

200

To be eligible to receive $400 cashback, you must apply for the Citi Clear Card by 31 January 2023, then spend a minimum of $3,000 on eligible purchases using your new card within 90 days from approval. Eligible purchases exclude Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, interest, fees, refunds and Chargebacks.

Cashback will be credited to your Account within 16 weeks of meeting the spend criteria. Your Citi Clear Card must remain open and in good standing to receive the cashback. Cashback will reduce the outstanding balance of your Account but will not count towards your next monthly repayment obligation.

I haven't used Citibank (but aware that NAB's now "more than NAB"). Not sure whether this is worth signing up for myself, how's the experience with Citibank, how long does cashback take to arrive (actually 16 weeks or not), etc… comments welcome.

Also, "90 days from approval" (?!), not 90 days from activation (like CommBank's); I assume this means the actual time given to spend $3,000 is less than 90 days (why?).

    The big question
Is there a cool off period from taking out a previous citibank card

    • +1

This BIG question is virtually asked all credit deals from Citibank!! Why? Because, unlike other institutions (ANZ, Westpac, StGeorge, CommBank) , they don't put that in the T&Cs.

So, to answer your question with my past experience with Citibank, I'm can confirm with you that you can close and reopen the next day, or having more than 1 Citi credit cards at one time.

But, i must say it will be up to their approval team at that time - and they won't tell you why if they have rejected your application.

FYI, I'm currently held the free4life Premier card and this year i had also applied for :
2 Rewards card - one rejected and one approved 4 months later
1 Prestige card - immediately one day after closed the Rewards card above, and got approved 2 days later.

Plus also 3 other NAB/Citibank backed cards (Suncorp, Coles, NAB) in last 12 months. All approved.

i believe its 12 months from recieving/being eligible for points last AND you cannot have closed another credit card where you have recieved points in the last 3 months.

      • Citibank is different, they dont disclose this ;)

        • I called them up to confirm the 3 month statement a few weeks ago, and they did ;)

          • @illiterate: Ive received a citi card 2 weeks after closing another points card
It's more the citibank to citibank card time lapse that I'm worried about.

Never had a knockback from them

          • @illiterate: Slightly confused by the 12/3 months thing, does the former refer to the exclusion period for applying for the same card and the latter for a separate citibank card with different points/offer?

      • Closed a citi issued coles CC in same month, and applied for deal this approved with no problems (I think the promo of last Coles CC was availed like 11-13 months ago)

    • I asked the same question via their Live Chat, and the response I got is that I can't get the sign up bonus for the same type of 'promotion'.

For context, I currently hold the "Citi Premier Qantas" card for which I got 80k Qantas points, and I asked them whether I would be eligible for the sign up bonus again if I close this account and re-apply in the future after a few months similar to how you'd do it with other banks, to which they said no.

However, if I were to apply for other type of 'promotion', even though it's for the same type of card, such as "Citi Premier Velocity" or "Citi Premier $600 Cashback", then I'd still be eligible for the sign up bonus.

Just wondering whether anyone had experience applying for the same Citi 'promotion' more than once and if so, were you able to receive the sign up bonus again?

      • to which they said no.

Did they at least give you a time frame (eg 12months) after you which you'd be eligible for the bonus again?

        • No they didn't.

They pretty much told me that you can only get the sign up bonus for each promotion once.

However, if you decide to apply for another type of promotion, e.g. the Citi Premier Velocity, you can still get the sign up bonus even if it's active concurrently with the Citi Premier Qantas.

That's why I'm curious to hear whether someone here managed to get the sign up bonus twice.

  • Lets wait: Cheap card and cashback after you renew it?
    Anybody happy here with Citi?
    I hear mixed results.

FYI, You cant use this card for any financial products or crypto for a quick rewards flip.

    • What do you mean financial products? I do alot of reselling could I buy my stock with the card and flip the stock or would it be ineligible? I'm looking to get my first credit card BCz I always use afterpay and zip for securing stock when I don't have funds from my weekly income. I want to receive benefits or rewards for the credit I always pay back on-time with afterpay etc..

  • Applied and approved in less than an hour. Pretty cool.

  • Has anyone received the cashback?

  • Has anyone managed to apply for multiple Citi cards at the same time, be approved, and be eligible for both promotions? Chatbot says yes.

  • quick approval straight after weekend approved (with even higher limit)

    • When did you apply? I applied last Tuesday, have received a phone call verifying that I wanted to apply for multiple cards at once, and then nothing.

      • Saturday night I think got email and text this morning saying approved

Its not a good idea to apply for multiple cards at once (just as a good rule of thumb)

        • Hmm, will check in on the applications tomorrow. Thanks!

  • Bummer i applied for the 36 month balance transfer offee, this wasnt listed.
