Last order to WA took 30 days with the worst courier in the West - Fastway now Aramex. Still better than 3 months from Just Wines i Sydney but still not acceptable. If I order again can I specify AusPost?

    • +5

In short yes, you can. And you are right it isn't an acceptable timeframe. We have since ceased using Aramax into WA until they get it together.

At length, here is a background. We deliver around 30,000 parcels each year for over twelve years during my time here. We use three of the largest courier networks in Australia, namely, Couriers Please, Aramax and Fastways. Currently, 98.2% of all our deliveries are completed without issues. Occasionally, something goes awry – whether that is a damaged parcel or delayed delivery.

Of course, we work to reduce that 1.8% as much as we possibly can though sadly it is not a perfect system.

Franchise systems are imperfect. I ran the operations of one for an ASX company in a life before wine. We regularly review service levels by location – we have in recent times stopped using Australia Post into VIC when we saw a lift in breakages. We have recently ceased Aramax into WA as there have been unacceptable delays.

You all hear of issues at the delivery end, but there are considerations at the senders end. Firstly, like deliveries, service for pick-ups in a regional area can be challenging. Each carrier has capacity issues. Therefore, a spread across three carriers means it is the quickest way to get your wine to you.
Everyone has a horror story about every courier company. We welcome requests for your preferred carrier. The reality is, even in recent days, someone has requested Aramax and someone else Australia Post because that is their preferred option in their area.

I can tell you they are all as good as each other. And if a company truly was that bad, we simply wouldn’t use them as the service and reputational impact on our business would be contagious.

There are ways which you can help us to help you and you can read more on that here -> https://bechardy.com.au/blogs/blog-news/waiting-for-your-del…

      Cheers! RD :-)

      • Our last order was 24 days with Aramex - just arrived yesterday and we enjoyed our first shiraz tonight. The main thing that annoys me is that it always takes longer than the estimated delivery time.

If you order with Just Wines via ebay, put in a "where's my order" query just after the due date and you will usually get either a refund or they will resend it. You would think they would learn either not to use Aramex or to extend the delivery estimate, but they never do.

        • Yes, Aramax into WA at the moment clearly have an issue hence we don’t use them to WA at this time. They also had a similar issue this time last year.

We’re only using Couriers Please or Australia Post into WA currently.

          • @RD ADL: I ordered last night and am from WA and you appear to have shipped it via aramax/fastway which I'm not that happy about as have multiple terrible experiences with them.

            • +1

@dxlr8: Can you please PM me your order number or call me asap on 0433 166 181

              • @RD ADL: Thanks for sorting the issue, great customer service.

                • @dxlr8: Your kind understanding is appreciated.
I’ll post an explanation tomorrow for the benefit of the community so there’s transparency around what went wrong, why and the extra measures I’ve put in place this evening to try and prevent a repeat.
                  Apologies again for the inconvenience.
                  Cheers! RD :-)

                  • @RD ADL: Hi Everyone
So despite an assuarnce that we're not using Aramax into WA at the moment, two have slipped through as you will have seen from posts to the board in the last 24 hours. In the interests of transparency, I wanted to let you know what went wrong and how we're fixing it.
So, essentially when we export the orders from Shopify to the shipping software, the software will default to the cheapest service provider which, at the moment, is Aramax to WA. We then have to work through every order and manually override those selections, changing them to Australia Post.

As always when there is a person involved the possibility of human error will arise as it has done here. Lisa (who is awesome!) missed at least two yesterday.

We caught one before it left the warehouse (thank you @SeismicEvent) and one after it had left. We managed to speak to Eddie the Aramax driver (top bloke) who has hopefully unloaded @dxlr8 's wine and has also generously checked for any other WA dispatches to return to us today.

Clearly, there was a flaw yesterday in our process, so we've beefed that up with two further manual checks today and going forward to eliminate as much as we possibly can the human error.

Time can often be of the essence in these situations, so I would ask if I may that if you post to the board I will often see it as i get an email notification but unless you have left an indentifying feature like an order number, please follow-up your board post with a PM to me or contact Lisa in the office on 08 8383 2700 or [email protected] and let us know - as here, we can often intervene quickly if we have to.

                    Apologies for the long missive!

Thanks for the continued support of Bec's wines. Cheers! RD :-)

  • Bought. Thanks Richard.

    • Thanks Major @MajorEvening. Good show! RD :-)

  • 2 cases ordered!

    • Thanks @dahurldog - quite a few folks like you getting two or three cases! Very grateful for that - Thank you RD :-)

  • any chance of doing a 6 pack of these? wanna try but don't want 12 :P

    • +1

In short, yes but will be at the standard RRP of $150.
Boxed in 12s at bottling so re-packing into six packs just not feasible in order to bring you the cheapest possible price to move the volume. Let's not even begin to discuss how frieght costs kill six packs too……
      Cheers! RD :-)

      • understood! guess I'll just have to drink 12 :)

        • I was just going to say, think of the deal this way:
You are buying four and getting 8 for free.
Or buying eight at half price and get four for free.
You won't be disappointed, and, most importantly, thank you.
          :-))

  • I've got a dozen for a try thanks OP. Is this similar to the Shaw and smith sauv Blanc?

    • Thanks @DocC - do you mean over priced? Err, no ;-)
Seriously, no for two reasons. We don't chase that same style - really high herabceous characters, cut grass, asaparagus, gooseberry etc. Secondly, the inclusion of the Thomas Hardy fruit brings a hint of a more tropical character from that warmer climate Sauvignon Blanc from McLaren Vale. The outcome is an inherently more food friendly wine.
      Cheers!
      RD :-)

  • Bought a dozen as well. Would this be more on the dry or sweet side?

    • Thanks @Johnrap for the order. To answer your question, the wine is fermented dry like most Sauv Blanc on the market. Any perceived sweetness is from the fruit, not residual sugars. :-)

  • Bought a dozen, Cheers!

    • Thanks @Willyeckerslike - that sounds like a Yorkshire handle that one?

      Si thee lad!

      Enjoy! RD :-)

  • Ah a fellow Yorkshireman. Fantastic!
You might appreciate this -> https://bechardy.com.au/blogs/blog-news/ey-up-and-away
    :-)

    • Unfortunately it won't let me read the full article, I will try on my PC later

    • Not only a fellow Yorkshire man, fellow Doncastrians. I lived in Balby and then Sprotbrough up until ten years ago when we moved over to Perth.

      • Haha. Gold. I grew up in a pub near Balby.
        :-)

    • +1

My mum is Balby born and bred - us kids spent every Christmas in Balby for a dozen years or more. Is this a reason to try this wine - I think so.

      • +2

Love it! Great memories I'm sure.
Bec, Matilda and I were in Doncaster just recently on a brief work trip back to the UK.
We're also just starting to get involved with the newly formed Doncaster City FC - support community, grassroots football in Doncaster (they currently play in Armthorpe where I was born).
So much Balby love - what a surprise!
Even the British High Commissioner was giving Balby a shoutout this week! -> https://twitter.com/VickiTreadell/status/1588997448214933507 (ping @Willyeckerslike)

  • I know all the pubs around Balby, I used to drink too much! I grew up near the Alverley Inn and later moved near to the White Swan. A small world!

    • Indeed it is.
You’d not made it though until you’d got to the Corporation Brewery Taps! :-)

      • Haha, Sam Smith's place that one if I remember correctly.

        • Spot on! :-)

  • If we use paypal or afterpay, does that cost you, as a business, more $$??

    • Marginally with PayPal but most certainly with Afterpay - double the cost.

  • Ordered yesterday. Said do NOT use Aramex/Fastway to WA. In this forum you stated you have stopped using them. Yet when I get the shipment confirmation - guess what - its Fastway again. PLEASE CANCEL ORDER . I will not wait another 30 days for your wine. I'll go to Dan Murphys

    • HI Dave. Just seen your email and now your post here. leave it with me for a moment. I'll give you a call in a minute or two. Cheers! RD

  • Hi Dave @SeismicEvent. Lisa is call ing you at the moment. You are correct, we are not using Aramax to WA. Sadly, human error here (Lisa's) for which I apologise and she will personally when she gets you at the phone. Apologies for the obvious frustartion. Cheers! RD

  • Would these keep to Feb 2024 and what’s the best way to store it to ensure longevity?

    • Best stored in cool and dark.
Always hard to know dates but I would certainly hope so. Hope that helps. Cheers! RD :-)

  • The dozen I ordered arrived today. As soon as I tasted it, I ordered another dozen. Cheers!

    • How very kind to do that but equally to follow it up with such a post. Thank you. RD :-)

  • Hi Richard, just now trying to buy a dozen. $19 has been added to my cart for shipping to ACT. I thought shipping was included?

    • +1

Hi Bruce. It is. You mioght have to clear the cart and start again. Or checkout as you are and PM me the order number and I'll hop in and fix. Cheers! RD

      • Thanks mate! Happy friday!

        • A pleasure. Drink well this weekend :-))

  • Had a sip today and love it!. Ordered another dozen.

    • Thanks @pork chop. A few repeat orders coming I. Like yours which is really nice. Thank you :-)

  • Received mine today. Very happy with it!

    • +1

@jpwagga happy days. Toast the US for your good fortune. Enjoy. RD :-)

  • Hi Richard, sorry had a few drinks and sent it to 1 Clieveden St North Perth. It should 52 Clieveden St North Perth.

    Please confirm change of address.

    Thanks,

    Jeff Buckell.

P.S I will order 2 more for myself

    • Hi Jeff. Got that, noted. Have confirmed by email. Thanks for the orders. Cheers! RD :-)

  • just had a taste, fantastic. Ordered another for the folks

    • Thanks @callmekev - we've been making this wine for nigh on twenty years, so well practiced by now! Thanks for the next order and enjoy! Cheers! RD :-)

  • Hi Richard, could you help check my 2 orders 7529 & 7468 have been shipped please.

    • Hi @pork chop. I have replied directly via email. I've not been in the office much the last two days but know they were packing as usual yesterday and today.
For all shipping enquiries always best to email [email protected] as there's a team of people monitoring that, especially when I'm not there. Whereas there's only me monitoring the board here and so the response might be a little slower.
I am aware of literally a minute ago, the wines are packed, some left yesterday, rest will leave today. There's a issue marking consignments as complete in the shipping software to send you the notifications which Lisa is on the Helpdesk as we speak. I'm sure that'll be resolved quickly.
      Cheers! RD :-)

      • Thanks Richard. Cheers!.

        • My pleasure - think Lisa has just updated you too. Cheers! RD :-)

  • Great drop with a touch of good old service from cellar door to drinker, comes with free party conversation when someone notices the label "Government Warning: According to the Surgeon General ……" Ordered another x2 dozen to help get through Christmas Festivities.

  • My last SB order from the Wine Shed was down to a couple of bottles. Glad this deal is still running.

Was a steal at 55% off on that deal. This is even cheaper. Amazing.

    • +1

      Thanks @Miso. Enjoy :-)

      • Oh I will. Keep up the deals Richard!

  • Thanks @Miso we will. :-)
