What we have here….

ASUS ALL IN ONE ATOM BASED 15.6" Touch Screen Computer (note: screen is 1 touch only).

Qualifies for the $15 upgrade offer to Windows 8 Pro when it is released
(See www.windowsupgradeoffer.com for more details regarding Windows 8 Upgrade offer)

We have been running the latest Windows 8 Consumer Preview on our display machine and it performs very well compared to Windows 7 (which it ships with).

Start up time to Windows START (local login) page is around 17 seconds. Faster than Win7. So would recommend upgrading to Windows 8 when it is released.

  • Wow, shipping is expensive, from Perth though I guess

2GB RAM with no available DIMM slots to upgrade. CPU is single core with Hyperthreading.
Intel GMA graphics with DDR2 single channel memory.

2010 called and wants their net-top back. Seriously, the only thing good about this machine is the touchscreen, which NOBODY uses on a desktop.

yeah much better off with one of those HP DM1 netbooks, cheap $99 yum cha 22" LCD and a wireless desktop…

GMA3150 Atom 1.66 is set sail for fail

    • I wonder if it would work as a thin client workstation, eg, for Info Kiosk applications…? (Maybe running Linux)

Even as a Win 7 Info Kiosk, it might have possibilities…

  • slowwww junk.

Postage! Do you personally drive here wthell!

  • lmao!`

Well, it might be useful for things such as:
    - interactive product display in your store (if you have ones)
    - finding recipes when cooking at your kitchen
    - as a gigantic photo frame at your lounge
    or else..

    =)

      • interactive product display in your store (if you have ones)
      • finding recipes when cooking at your kitchen
      • as a gigantic photo frame at your lounge

All of which can be done on a much cheaper Android tablet.

      • not disagreeing with you, but this is 15 inches and windows8(FWIW), which the androids aint.
        EDIT- beaten (below)

        • Those are very niche uses for a desktop like this, but OK, $299 for a machine that's just going to end up as product display and kitchen recipe computer sounds kind of overkill and wasteful.

A $35 Raspberry Pi + $100 LCD inch screen combo would be a more economical solution, provided that you don't need Windows to get the job done.

I think this is a pretty good deal if you're in Perth and well suited to the tasks c4ppuc1nn0 mentioned.

Hard to compare it to an Android tablet as this has a 15.4" touchscreen, full blown Windows 7 (and 8) and a large array of inputs/outputs. Even at $299 you're not getting a high end Android tablet.

It's not a bad control center or monitoring unit either (anything where you're just pulling in feeds) - good for IP security cameras, home automation or just an oversized Chumby.

      • You can get an android tablet much more powerful than this for $299.

But none will have 15" screen :)

Powerful in what sense? We're talking Windows vs Android and ARM vs x86, what task could you reasonably be expected to complete on both that would run better on the Android tablet?
