It takes minimal effort to have your cameras on an isolated VLAN. Which is the recommended approach for any brand, not just CCP. Trust no one. Reolink are amazing bang for buck.

Minimal effort for them to backdoor via hardware.

          My point is still valid.

That report has been discredited by the NSA and DHS.

Doesn't matter what kind of backdoors they theoretically have if your network blocks their internet access.

      • It takes minimal effort

Depends if your router supports it, very interested to know how to configure this on Asus RT-AX88u router?

According to https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeNetworking/comments/l47ocn/secu…, it looks like the stock firmware does not support VLANs, however if you re-flash it to AsusWRT firmware you will be able to do it. You will also need a smart switch.

I'm not sure your level of IT proficiency, so not sure if you would be comfortable flashing to AsusWRT…

@bdl: Thanks for confirming that VLAN is not supported on stock firmware. I know how to flash it, but I'm pretty much satisfied with the existing firmware. I just isolated all IOT and IP cameras using guess network at the moment.

      • Do you have any links to VLAN installation guides? Google results are just overwhelming, a mature here

    • So you can easily put these on their own physical network given these are PoE devices you'd probably have them on on a PoE switch or alternatively put them on their own VLAN. But it's also not too hard to filter / monitor the traffic associated with the cameras.

Also more than likely (depending on the model) you can flash the firmware to third party and/or open source equivalents.

Note that discount doesn't scale linearly. Cheapest I can make four go to is $405.59, whereas I was hoping I'd manage ~$382.52 from the title.
