Banking security, new SIM card

I'm considering changing my gender and name to avoid identity theft, given all the recent breaches.

I've already had to cancel one card for fraudulent transactions in the last week alone, and don't want to be one of those prime time stories where I get my account cleared out.

Would their be any benefit in getting a new separate sim for me and my partners bank accounts. Is there any way to avoid the sim swap scam or make our accounts more secure. We've already been caught up in the Optus and now possibly Medibank fiasco.

what happens when your new gender gets hacked. will you change back?

That transition back will be a bit rough if parts are missing

I remember they'd ask your previous names when applying for certain things.

So i doubt changing names/gender would change much.

I haven't seen any applications with "Previous Gender" as a field just yet! haha
(although, we may not be too far away from that!)

    Well that escalated quickly

  • Seems to me that the riskiest piece of information is date of birth. Can't change that. Banks are always asking for DOB as the sole piece of information for identity purposes, and it is the most commonly hacked piece of data.

What is I said that I identify as someone born on another date? Seems to work for everything else!

    • What banks use DOB as sole identity?
