What Is Your Preferred Door Knob / Lever Brand?

We have this Gainsborough Classic door knob installed everywhere in our place. Overall, they feel flimsy, some of them I tightened the screws and they feel firmer but most of them have issues with the spring not working well even after lubing. On one of them the spring is just stuck halfway.

I am planning to replace some of them. It does not need to be identical; I would consider a door lever as well if it is reliable. Do you have any preferred brand and model to recommend? Is Lockwood any better? What about Lane or Ikonic?

Someone with your username probably shouldn't be commenting on a knob thread! 😋

Sometimes its not the hardware but installation and alignment in the door. Check first before coughing up for replacement.

  • Ah yes, knobs and lubing in the same post

  • A nice chunky lever always preferable to a round knob.

Can't open a round knob when your hands are covered in blood running from an axe murderer.

Although round helps to keep the velociraptors out.

  • The Gainsborough I bought to replace the ancient set on the laundry door, in my opinion, is overpriced and not very good.

Lane or Ikonic are the budget brands and are low quality, although they are priced accordingly.

I like the Lockwood Saltbush internal door sets (both passthrough and privacy) and replaced all my doors with them. Easy to install, looks and feels premium.
Their prices have gone way up (50% more!) since I bought them a year ago though

    Schlage.

  • reminds me of a line from..how green was my cactus..
Darcy Dugan, disguised as a door, gets his knob shot off…..

  • Lockwood. Kaba.

    • Kaba seems like an overkill for a house?

      • Depends… if it’s a $5million house, probably not… but then again, in Sydney, $5million is probably a bed sit in Parramatta.
