  • WHAT!? I just bought one at Cole's for $12 which is 50% off and thought it can't get any better than that!

Can anyone confirm the expiry date on these CW ones? They trying to get rid of it?

Got two from my local CW, expire on 6/24.

      • THANK YOU!

I wouldn't touch banana boat, not very good sunscreen.

Just googled it and saw recall this year on some banana boat sunscreens due to carcinogen and also that the majority of the ingredients are deemed toxic and easily absorbed :/

I would only use it on my dog

        • Haha 😆

stop using cancer council sunscreen then too …

I would still give Banana Boat a green light to go ahead as a safe sunscreen to order because the reason for the recall way back then was the benzene in aerosols, a carcinogen. Many aerosols from other brands had to be recalled as well including brands from dry shampoos. It was beyond the manufacturer's knowledge.

        • Ah fair enough. Wasn't filled with much confidence when that recall stuff came up but what you're saying makes sense so probably OK then?

Also saw this on a quick Google which doesn't seem good but not sure if the same ingredients are in other suncreams

@Chocobros: I don't know if that site is credible. I need more evidence. They are the ingredients in most sunscreens anyway, so would you rather deal with increase chances of getting skin cancer or worry about whether it absorbs into the body?

          • +5

@Chocobros: The guy who wrote that article and owns the website works in software sales… he is not a credible source. I guarantee he doesn't actually understand even a fraction of the complex science behind sunscreens, the chemicals that go into them, and how they interact with the body.

Please look up LabMuffin on Youtube. She has a PhD in Chemistry and additional credentials in cosmetic chemistry. Her videos are very thorough and a lot of them are made specifically to disprove the harmful scare-mongering myths that you've just read.

            • @Bowna: Thanks will do

              • @Chocobros: Agree it's not a good sunscreen as it's a carcinogen and doesn't seem to protect you against the sun. I go for zinc based sunscreens as they protect you better from the sun

And yes I avoid cancer council sunscreens , I generally get sunsense

    • +1

wow TIL. what would you recommend?

      • +3

We use Invisible Zinc as my husband has sensitive skin that reacts to chemical sunscreens and ditto with the kids. Wotnot is another good brand and if you don't particularly like the white cast of zinc, MooGoo has a clear zinc version.

    • In what way is it not good? I dunno how you assess what's good and not good…
