  • Wish X670E motherboards will follow the price drop trend very soon!
This gen's motherboard pricing is crazy, more expensive than HEDT used to be.

    • Yeah it's not much different with z790, can't bring myself to spend $500+ on a board when the CPU is the same price or even less. Madness.

I also need to point out that non-E b650 and x670 are not even future proof- they don't have pcie5.0 slots where even z690 at least has 1x16 pie 5.0 slot for the GPU.

Yeah they need to drop the motherboard price otherwise this makes very little effect

Do not buy. AMD 8 series CPU’s coming next year to fix all the problems of the 7 series due to rushed development cycle. 8 series will run cooler, use a lot less power and be faster.

Do not buy. AMD 9 series CPU’s coming year after that to fix all the problems of the 8 series due to rushed development cycle. 9 series will run cooler, use a lot less power and be faster. (Did I do it right)

    7600x $236usd ~= 365aud

    hold

      • gst + Australian tax. So $400 + whatever extra they decide to add on.
    • Those discounts are very probably intended as a brief sales boost for Singles Day. Western countries may get similar discounts for Black Friday, who knows.

I am going ahead with a DDR5 config. Question: should I choose the Ryzen 7 7700X or the i5-13600k (they seem to be priced more or less the same). My primary use case would be gaming with a little bit of photo/video editing

    • 13600k, better priced than 7700x

You can also save money by going z690 motherboard to save a few bucks

    • Between the two and considering your primary use case, I think I would go with the 7700x if going with DDR5.

Similar performance, better platform features, power efficiency, and possibility of upgrades in the future.

      • Better platform?
Only if going with b650e or x670e, non-E boards don't even have pcie5.0 whereas anything beyond the cheapest z690 do.
