A good ironing board in general can make the difference with the ironing experience.

By 'good', I don't mean expensive. Just one that has a good amount of firm padding on the back. My best board I've bought so far was from K-mart, but it's ugly and exceptionally big.

    • also, ensure that the ironing board cover has sufficient padding.

Agree the board is very important, you need some weight so it isnt wobbling around - lots of cheaper ones (like you get in hotels) are too unstable; but that said if you need to move the table around you need to trade off mobility and stability.

You can buy some good ironing board/well padded covers if the board itself doesnt come with what you need, lots of people make them as a side hobby/in their homes, just google or etsy them (also much nicer designs)

try the Joseph Joseph Glide Plus or some of the sunbeams

If your tight for space, I can vouch for the navy colour ''Joseph Joseph'' Pocket Plus - Sturdy and it fits a full size iron when folded.

  • Every so often Aldi sell a good one. Comparable cost 3-4 times as much at Spotlight. they also often sell unstable cheaper ones. Return policy is good.

Get a cheapy ironing board from KMart then go to Bunnings and grab this ironing board felt underlay cut it to size and throw underneath the ironing board cover. You just sorted yourself out with a premium ironing board for $40. It's the padding that matters.

Last time I ironed a shirt (4 years ago), I used the sofa as an ironing board, as I usually do.

    • Ironing is very overrated.

  • Great iron, and Braun used to sell the boards. Have you asked them if they're coming back? The great feature of the IB3001 is the rail that offers lots of hanging space.

  • Would be good to find a board that is made to use with steam stations as they have a really good 'base/holder' for them. Might find on second hand on market place/ebay and just replace the cover.

You won't go back to a regular iron!

  • I'd get one that's flat
