In true OzBargain style I've been checking their website every day to see if it's on special…sad but true

  • It's the usual price, right? Always 50% off.

    • +1

Not as far as I'm aware, last time it was 50% off was in August.

      • ahh okay. Cheers.

Genuinely curious as my Oral B Vitality cheapie is on its way out…what is the benefit of these higher end toothbrushes? Best model I've ever had is the Pro 700 which, to be honest, didn't feel or clean any different to the $20 Vitality.

    • I wanted to ask too

      • I've never had the vitality one so won't be able to answer that one. :)

Under $100 for a 'genius' is worth a shot.

        • Have you ever had any of the Pro models? What about these Genius models makes it worth twice the price?

          • @xyron: No, haven't had a pro model before. I bought the 7000 in 2018 and the battery was starting to go. I probably could have got another 6-12 months out of it but I figured if I can get it for under $100 Ill go for it. 7000 had a few modes and I liked the countdown timer it came with. And my wife wanted us to do the couples thing and both have electric toothbrushes.

      There's a chart here: https://www.electricteeth.com/au/oral-b-electric-toothbrush-…

I've only used a Braun Triumph Pro 5000 before so I don't know how much of a difference there is. No idea if "2D" vs "3D" cleaning action actually means anything. I do know that I never use the bluetooth functionality, care for the 30s alerts, the light that appears when it senses too much pressure or the different cleaning modes.

Yeah I saw that table, thanks. Really seems to me that above the Pro series, everything else is a gimmick. Would love for someone to explain why I'm wrong, as I'm not against spending more on something like this that I use every day if it is worthwhile!

      • The '3rd' dimension is pulsation. Pulsation is one of the main advantages of an electronic toothbrush.

        • Yes, but the Pro series offers pulsation. That is a good reason to go above the Vitality, but not beyond the Pro…

    • +1

Anyone that can add to this for more insight or on contrary, please.

      New ones:
      - tells you how long you should spend brushing per side
      - tells you the pressure you are putting if too excessive.
      - has Bluetooth
      - apparently removes more plaque.

However isn't a sensitive toothbrush head suffice to not need the expensive version? You can already remove more plaque if you opt for better toothbrush head. And the pros looks kinda meh to me. Sticking with vitality and floss.

      • The Pro models pulse every 30 seconds to remind you to move to a different part of your mouth. I really wonder how hard you have to be pushing down to need the pressure monitor!

And why on earth does an electric toothbrush need Bluetooth?

Oral B Pro 500 and 700 are both $49 at Shaver Shop at the moment

        • You can actually configure it via Bluetooth. Let's say you only use 2 modes out of 6, you can deactivate the 4 you don't use. Is it really required, no. Is it nice to have, yes.

      • The pressure light I though was a gimmick until I used it. It was on basically the entire time I first used it, so I've definitely been using too much pressure. Now I only push too hard occasionally.

      • Pro is only for professional tooth brushers. :)

Just look up good brushing technique and floss regularly also. You do need to go to dentist regularly for clean as brushing alone won't clean fully.

You could try using fluoride gel at home and use a tooth polisher also but at your own risk.

A lot of it is useless features. Mostly battery life if you have the nicad version, you don’t have to recharge every couple of days.

      • yeah cause its sooo hard to sit it back down on its holder which charges it…. …. not, where else would I put it!? Charger isn't even bulky and I'd prefer to have it on a trip too so never found it to be an issue with vitality

    • Pro is for professional tooth brushers. For other plebs, just save your money and go for cheapest Vitality on sale. I even replace the batteries on those vitality ones with Eneloops when the juice eventually runs out. :)

    • After being recommended to upgrade to an electric toothbrush by my dentist (who said the cheap vitality ones are just fine), I used the vitality one for a long time, and dentist said results were good. However then I fell for a half price deal on one of the more expensive ones and upgraded - and I don't know why I bothered….There was nothing wrong with the $25 one (always half price somewhere), with my choice of brush heads.

I got the expensive one solely because I wanted to try the pressure sensor … but apparently I wasn't pressing too hard anyway so didn't need it.

You pay triple+ price for some gimmicky add ons - yes some are potentially interesting, some may benefit you if you can't manage to clean your teeth properly (i.e. so you need hints about how long on each quadrant, presuming that is even the order you brush in, or not pressing too hard or something, or heaven forbid an app for your toothbrush… like I need more clutter on my phone), but the vitality is fine and I have actually gone back to the it because I prefer the feel of it to the expensive one!

If you are upgrading, one reason might be to get the pulsating action on even a basic Pro model, which in theory cleans more efficiently, but I find it kind of annoying for holding it / feel if you bump a tooth etc, and louder etc… I figure clean is clean really if you are doing it properly with the basic model + flossing too. So I wouldn't bother going too far up the models.

    • I have the oral b genius 8000, the difference between the cheapie ones as well as the pro's is the different settings for speed and type of clean, as well as the battery life bar. These do come with some extra features such as bluetooth to connect to your phone and see which teeth have been cleaned and need a clean properly, but I havent seen the need to use this feature.

    • I think the main thing is the old ones start to go slow due to the battery after 4 or 5 years. As long As they have the oscillating head they are all the same really, and change the brush heads every 3 months. The new lithium Ion batteries are better and should last longer, no need to charge and discharge.

Other than that just paying for gimmicks and accessories. I replaced an old pro 3000 with a genius 8000 dual handle ($179 and sold the spare handle for $60 so worked out well. Can prob get slightly more but was cheaper than the single pack and the same charging base works etc). The Bluetooth app is rubbish and doesn't work properly on android 13, hardly necessary just clean teeth twice a day for 2 min.

    Great price

Nice first post. Can't do too much better than half price with free delivery.

Home Assistant speaks to the bluetooth models now. I know because my neighbour has one :|

    • At least you know your neighbour brush their teeth.

      • +1

Or at least keeps their toothbrush charged :P

        • Good one

    • can you f… with them using your Home Assistant?

      • No, the Toothbrush is broadcasting via BLE so it's look but don't touch for my Home Assistant

      • this is what it looks like on home assistant FYI

        https://imgur.com/a/eOIgkMi

        • I couldn't even get it to work with the app (andoid 13)
Connects but then can't navigate away from the main screen to any settings.

          pretty useless gimmick anyway.

  • Thanks for the deal, just got one!

  • Thanks OP, grabbed one.

  • Low on stock! Click and collect only.

    • Yeah, almost gone now. Only a few stores left with stock in Perth

      • Hope they ship from local Perth store like they normally do when I order stuff from them. None that close to me and wasn't heading in the direction of one any time soon so opted for delivery.

        • They didn't :(
Coming from Melbourne. Oh well, sometime next week.

I bought one of these in a precious deal and was disappointed because:
    - The case does not have a battery (the charging port is just a way to connect to the toothbrush)
    - The battery only lasts 5 - 6 uses (2 mins each) after 2 months of use. Not sure if this is a dud batch or just how it works
    - It is much bigger than my previous (Oral-B Pro 2000) toothbrush in every dimension and weight.
    - The case is unnesessarily big

I would definitely get the Pro 2000 or similar cheaper option if you travel / take your toothbrush anywhere.

    • Yes I'd been looking for a half price deal on a pro 2000 for awhile. The bargain listed here prompted me to google the 2000 and hey-ho I got it for $79 delivered here: https://www.beardandblade.com.au/collections/toothbrushes/pr…

    • +1

You should get longer runtime than that after 2 months, that's less than a quarter of what it should be (2 weeks, twice a day). I'd be looking at warranty on it.

The only thing I don't like about the cheaper models is they removed the mode change button and turning off takes a long press or cycling through the modes. Minor thing, but it annoys me. Prob not as bad with the 2000 as they only added 1 extra useless mode ;)

@aurum87 pretty sure 180 day return if unsatisfied with the range of toothbrushes. Might be a option, especially if battery is as you say.

    • +1

Sounds like a dud, the battery should last for ages compared to the old ni-cad ones. Found this on a google search for my model:

The Genius 8000 features Oral-B's longest lasting rechargeable battery, 12 days battery life (2 mins. twice a day) and a premium charger for Oral-B's fastest charging time. The Smart Travel Case charges your brush and your smartphone using a single plug.

I agree with you about the smart case, bit pointless as I think you need a proprietary cable, it's bigger and have a battery. A USB C type power bank or at least the connector type be better. I think the basic case is fine and just take the base to plug in the bathroom outlet (without the brush holder bit. Even got a spare charging base now.

  • Thanks! Got one c&c.

  • None left

  • Thanks op.I got couple from Marcoola store one for us and one for kids. Almost looks like the 8500 is possibly exclusive to CW. Either way, happy with quadrant timer & highher pulsation & oscillation than unit currently using.

    • Supposed to be according to Chemist Warehouse, though Amazon sells them too. Had matched the price but only had 2 in stock when I looked.

It's basically the 8000 packaged with the travel case from the 9000.

  • I've got an OralB Pro2 2000….like having an angle grinder in ya mouth(or a lawnmower)….got one for Mrs V and she used it for 10 secs before spitting it out, cost me another $79 for an Oclean (kinda like a Philips). Has bluetooth, talks to you etc etc, recharge once a month….happy wife.

Argh fell asleep and didn't order last night, there's been less toothbrush deals compared to the past too

    • Did you remember to brush your teeth?

      • No… :(

  • Just picked them up from the store, good deal OP

  • Its a really good brush, top of the class anything above is diminishing returns. Now I bought as a replacement for more $$$ phillips sonicare diamond clean. I miss my old brush more, will return to the competitor when the Oral B replacing. Personal preference.

    • Agree the small round brushhead style is the best, maybe oral b have a patent on it or something, better than normal shape toothbrush.

Yes anything over the basic models is a waste and paying for gimmicks.

  • managed to get this today, think they forgot to take the sticker off

    • Nice one!
