Not saying this is a bad deal, but 25% off RRP is pretty normal.
Good for those who don't stock up oils during massive sale.
The previous edge sport 5w-30 deals have seen as low as 30 bux.

Yeah, equal to a Supercheap 25%-off. Just ran out of the $30 EDGE oil after what, 2-3 years.

Damn it, i only missed out on this deal by 3 years.

      • I hear that the old EDGE is better oil than EDGE Titanium. If you want old edge there are still some places that have it in stock at full price, just wait like a vulture for them to clear it.

  • good oil

but if you have a high performance type car it may be good for you

    otherwise…

    • otherwise…?

Use the oil ratings that the manufacturer recommends. Usually there is only one ideal recommended one for a particular climate.

There are plenty of cars that aren't high performance which use thin oils such as these. Take a look at the VW/Audi recommended oils list for example. It's a huge list of oils of many different brands, but you will find that most modern engines have close tolerances and thus require thin oils. Going against the manufacturer recommendations would be silly unless there is a very good reason.

I note too that in the the old thread there is a lot of bad advice about using thicker oils.

      • my engine wants 5w30 as well

but since its a pushrod 2v design i used penrite 5w30 which cost me $40 for 8 litres (two bottles)

my car has a 6 litre pan

doesn't make sense to spend ~$105 per oil change does it?

I rarely rev my car over 4,000rpm so it doesn't make sense to buy 'gold plated' oil.

        A Porsche 911? yes

        • $40 for 8L :O Which oil is it, where do you get it that cheap, and who sells 4L bottles? I've never seen 5W30 oil for that price. Normally even the cheapest 5W30 oils cost around double that. Sounds like a bargain.

Looking at my example above, unless it's the Enviro+ (which is $79.95/5L at super cheap), then it doesn't pass the VW/Audi standard anyway, which is particularly applicable to direct injection engines.

What I'm getting at here is that it isn't all just about viscosity of the oil, there are other factors too. Depends on what your definition of "high performance" I suppose.

For plenty of litte economy oriented cars I'd regard as not being "high performance", Castrol Edge Titanium is one of the cheapest oils.

        • I'd like to know where to get the 8L Penrite 5w30 for $40 too, care to share Tony?

  • Is it on the catalogue? I don't see any Castrol Edge Titanium 5W-30 5L Engine Oil on discounted sale. Or is it just in-store?

    • The tag at the store said "catalogue sale" I don't have the catalogue on me.

      • how does this compare to mobil 1 extended performance? i am guessing this castrol is group 4 oil?

  • Great found. Thx.

  • Castrol Edge Sport and Castrol Edge Titanium, are they the same thing?

Not a bad deal, as everywhere else is selling it for about 70 bucks…

    • Quite possibly, there doesn't seem to be another castrol edge besides titanium on their website. It might have been a direct replacement/superceeded

      • +1

        Titanium replaced Sport.

  • Expired…

    • thanks
