I was today years old when I learnt it’s pronounced

    ‘ ‘ga-juh’

    Lol

Dang, I was gaggiang for this until I found that out!

    • Have you told Gaggia?

  • I bought this a while back for around 600ish. Banging machine. A level up from the Delongi espresso (which was still good), but it felt like a natural progression and teeters into a more hobbie-like coffee experience. With that said I don't weigh my beans or shots, and it's still great.

Just made a coffee with it. Exellent solid unit. If you're looking for a grinder the Baratz Encore is good and cheapish. They even sell repair parts on their site for longevity
      https://baratza.com/grinder/encore/

      • am i mixing that grinder for another one, but thought it was recommended for cold filter grinds rather than espresso?

Why so expensive all of sudden? Is it a new model or something? Can OPV be finally adjusted or still needs additional temper with springs?

    • Inflation, logistics etc.

  • I've got one of these and really love it. Make sure you get your own tamp though, the one in the box isn't much to be desired - I think it's a 58mm porta.

Also, the porta is very lack luster. I bought a nice bottomless one with a wooden handle. The basket in this kit is somewhat average.

However, all in all, absolutely worth and I really love this machine.

    • what did you replace the basket with?

and what difference did the bottomless make? i went to a coffee parts shop and they said the only diff is visually you can see it come out, but doesn't improve the shot?

      • Bottomless i think is purely for asthetic, but the basket (like a VST one for example) is machined at a much higher quality and will produce better results.

It will assist in consistency etc, and can help avoid issues with blockages and channelling.

        • Regardless of absolutely any recommendations by anyone, the ultimate upgrade for any coffee machine at any budget is the grinder.

Always grind your beans fresh, the flavours are a lot better. And then having a consistent, even and accurate grind will improve literally any coffee machine.

You asked the question and gave the answer..its not for asthetics it allows you to see if there is any channeling.. which would mean a problem with ground size and/or tamping ..a normal single spout or two spout portafilter just dumps the extract whether there is chanelling or not but a naked portafilter shows you the stream coming out since there is no spout.. if it looks like a shower and splatters then either ground or tamping is wrong..if it comes as a single stream from the centre then its good… I prefer a rancillio silvia over this only because the height restriction means a scale and a regular mug cannot be used together in a gaggia but they are otherwise very similar

          • @shaidas: Ahh there you go. I'm not the most knowledgeable all this stuff, but that pretty well sums it up!

  • Can you mod this to get to 9 bars?

Actually it's over pressured, you need to mod it down to 9bar. Easy to do
