[VIC, SA, QLD] Derrimut 12-Month Gym Membership $249 + $59 Admin Fee @ Derrimut 24:7 Gym

511

Got an email from Derrimut 24:7 Gym, been looking for a new membership for a while, saw their deal for $299 a few months back but now this is here, they had a similar deal back during covid times so $249 sounds about the lowest for the past few years, tried email and ask for no admin fee but no luck!

Anyway this is what the membership gets you (from the site)

  • Access all Derrimut 24:7 Gyms Australia wide!
  • 24:7 access (no additional fee)
  • Group fitness classes
  • Other features* eg. Saunas, Basketball Courts, Rocking Climbing Walls
  • Personal Trainers available at selected gyms
  • Fully stocked Supplement Superstore
  • 12 Month Minimum Membership*
  • $59 admin fee applies

Seems like the best value deal, I don't know how I have friends who pay like $25 a week for the gym lol

No gyms apart from Garden city in Brisbane

    • +1

It's on Kessels Rd but is a fair distance away from Garden City. The building used to by Anytime Fitness but it was changed to Derrimut a couple of years ago.

  • FYI, previously it was $299+59 admin, so only a $50 discount, full price is meant to be $749 but it's almost always on sale.

    • full price is meant to be $749

It says $9/week, 9*52 = $468. No idea how full price can be more expensive than that.

      • The not on sale price. If you scroll down on their website you can see $749 for the year.

        • +6

Yeah I can see that, but it's just marketing bullshit so they can provide a higher percentage off. No one is going to pay more per year than per week.
Saw in a previous deal it used to be $399 full price which is more reasonable.

Still a good deal, but basing it off $749 just makes the deal murkier.

  • +2

Thumbnail saying $199 12 month upfront membership really doesn't do much for your "$249 is the lowest price in years" lol

    11 months ago was $199 + $49. Now $249 + $59.

    • Really where? Send deal i would've got that lmao

    • It was $199 + $49 just over 12mths ago.

      Source: I bought it.

      • You must've signed up on this one. It was repeated not long after.

        • I got it before then. July 2021

          • @Ulysses31: Then that's almost 18 months ago, which is a bit different to just over 12 months.

            • @pennypincher98: It was a guess. Does it matter?

              • @Ulysses31: Well i meant i haven't seen it for $199 this year sooo. Cuz I would've got this ages ago otherwise!

  • Ah i see lmao

  • Which one has basketball courts?

    • No idea

    • +5

      Windsor Gardens SA has one

      • +1

wtf, windsor gardens have basketball courts? which areas?

        • The one next to Bunnings on NE Rd. I go to Ryderwear but I only know from the photos on their socials that they did a massive reno recently.

    • Caroline Springs (VIC) also

    • Coolaroo has one

  • +1

Has anyone received an understandable answer when asking exactly what the admin fee covers?

$59 for admin seems a little excessive - that's a 2 to 3 hours work being charged for every person who joins.

    • akin to a real estate agent spending 6 weeks full time to sell your house … we know that's not the case. What're gonna do?

      • What're gonna do?

say it's a rip and not buy it

    • +9

$59 covers that they press a button on the computer to say you’re in

    • Other places I’ve seen say their admin fee (also around a similar ridiculous amount) is supposedly for the cost of providing the key card/fob for access :/

      • +1

supposedly for the cost of providing the key card/fob for access :/

        Hope it's at least gold-plated.

        • +1

Derrimut use a bit of laminated paper with a barcode you scan to open the gate, at least mine in SA does…

  • Do you get charged an admin fee to renew?

    • +1

      Yes. Unfortunately.

      • Ticking the "active" box and entering in your new contract end date is at least 30 seconds of work.

  • +3

They drop the price every month to drain people til they hit the cheap ass people.

It pissed off so many people.

But now in SA, Ryderwear is opening everywhere and Revo! So alot more options, so Derrimuts is gonna struggle to hold people esp with the dodgy marketing tactics which piss members off.

    • -4

Mighty bold of you to whine about “cheap ass people” on OzBargain of all places.

      • +3

Hey! I waited til $300 bahaha, they told me they wouldn't drop it further! Then 2 weeks after they drop it!

They lie, that's what pisses me off.

As they from the price they just get different markets, some people go $250 for gym alrite I'll sign up even if they never use it. But most those won't pay $400, that's what I meant.

    • +2

Yep absolutely agree with their tactics pissing off people. I used to be a member at the Derrimut gym next to my house. Then they jacked up the annual prices by over double for current members and only offered their "promo prices" to new customers only. I know quite a few people who ended up going elsewhere. Not sure what there current full prices are but I remember seeing it going up to $700+ per year at some stage. Sure it's not as much as other gyms but for a gym that offers " a no thrills" approach, it's terrible marketing for sure!

      • +1

Now they even let you top up!

Makes me think they're gonna go under, but mean while the bike owner will keep his cash!

There's alot of comp on SA now, Ryderwear does $10 a week and no contracts!

Revo has alot in the north east, so when mine runs out I'll see what happens.

  • that admin fee is bullshit it should only be for new members not for resigning members just a shifty cash grab - still a good deal and a good value gym but that admin fee is crap

    • +4

Real but again other gyms do it too it's a systemic issue

      • A lot of gyms negate the fees for new sign-ups if you ask/haggle.

Then again, it still only comes to $5.92/week. I'm paying $9/week at Crunch (paid no joining fees etc) and figure that's alright for Sydney especially.

        • How is crunch? I see every fortnight their sign on fee fluctuates… this fn $15, last fn $9, $29 prior etc. plus scummy $45 annual up keep fee?? Lulwot

          • +1

@chickenchipsgravy: The gym themselves are pretty good - modern and plenty of equipment and space. Showers work, toilets flush. Yeah. I got a discount from showing student ID that negated the sign on fee and gave lower rate. Think the annual fee is $39 for me?

Not a fan of annual fee but works out as 75¢ per week for me. Might be different in Melbourne but not many gyms under $10/week in Sydney.

  • Don't forger the T&C's with this deal is no suspension, regardless of how plausible is the excuse.

    • +1

Yeah it's common with other gyms membership paid upfront if you cancel early that just means you cut off access to the gym so might as well let it run out itself

  • How do these places make money? There are like 5 gyms in a 2km radius from my house.

    • idk gyms r expensive man

      • But people can't go to all of them. I just counted now and there are in fact 7 gyms not 5 in my tiny suburb.

    • Lol its a nice front

  • +6

I won't join this just because of the admin fee. I'd rather they raise the price and not mention the admin fee.

Admin fee for a new customer just tells me that as a new customer, i'm a hassle and habe to pay an admin fee for them to serve me.

    No thanks!

  • +6

Everyone who are hung up about the admin fee just train your brains to accept the full price is $308. FFS Move on.

    • +1

IMO it's the same annoying BS problem of not having tax, tips, etc. included in American stuff.

Goods/services should be the ones giving us a single price

      • it is a single price , it’s $308 that you me get charged . What’s the problem ?

        • +1

          Hahah exactly what I thought

Where are you going to find any other gym $308 a year

Everyone's complaining about the $59 fee
Because $249 is to much already?

  • They never charged admin fees for 12month memberships, only direct debits.
Ever since covid hit, the owner jacked up the prices and started charging the admin fee for everyone.
They didnt do any deals for a while, but now are back to doing it every month or so.

Even with the stupid/pointless admin fee, derrimut is still cheaper than every other gym.

  • still waiting $199

    • Wasn't one this mid year so i don't expect it

      • THEN choose other gym,ez

        • other gym more expensive LOL

  • How long can you put a membership on hold?
I can see it says 2-4 weeks with 7 day notice but can you do multiple. Has anyone tried or know.

Oh just read above comment that upfront can't be put on hold…

  • I wouldn’t go to derrimut even if it was free! Full of meat heads and smells like protein farts.

    • Where would you go instead?

      • Doherty's 24:7

    • haha. What about protein heads and meat farts? Or is that ok?

    • second hand protein farts can make you big

  • -1

if i recall correctly there is also a quarterly "housekeeping" (or something along the lines of that) fee of about $15..?

This is something you need to keep in mind on top of the admin fees which they charge

    • That don't sound right

    • +1

this is only for direct debit accounts, not for upfront memberships

      • ahh nevermind then, disregard my comment

  • Wonder if they clean the toilets / changerooms more than once a week now post-Covid?

The Derrimut I attended for a while (Newcomb, VIC) was a complete disgrace. Filthy. Cheap 'n' nasty sums up these gyms.
