Velocity Points @ up to 40%

Hi Oz bargainers

I received this email from virgin. For example, you can buy 160k for $2246 after 40% discount? would you do it? I'm a bit suspicious because I would surely have seen this deal on Oz bargain if it was a good deal?

They did a 100% bonus during covid times, but 40% is really good. However buying points is the most expensive way to get points, it's only useful if you have a specific flight in mind you need to pay for, otherwise just keep churning credit cards, you'll rack up that many points quickly enough.

Anything besides flights it's nowhere near worth it. An Apple giftcard for $1000 costs 180k points. I'm also finding international flights on virgin via points pretty painful lately, so check the flight you want is available.

    • Thanks for that

Buying points is only worth if you're just short the 5-10% needed.

    Otherwise not worth it

    • makes sense

These usually go straight into my junk mail folder.

I find some of they pictures they include to entice you to click the link demeaning to women.

    • They’re definitely winging it

Unless redeeming for business class not worth it.

WOuld be aiming for 1c/point redemption if redeeming for economy class flights - at which point you're paying $2200 for $1600 of value in this case so not worth it.
