Sold Price Report - Your First Report Free (Save $14.90) @ CarExpert

150

CarExpert is currently offering the first Sold Price Report for free. Normally $14.90.

The Sold Price Report uses real market data to tell you exactly what others have recently paid for their new car. This means you can negotiate for your new car with confidence, get the car you really want, and avoid overpaying thousands.

The data is licensed exclusively to CarExpert and derived from the dutiable value at time of government registration. By using our system you unlock the actual average purchase price for the specific make, model, and variant you are looking to purchase in your state. The actual average price is based on the most recently available transactional data (usually the previous month) across Australia.

  • No Holden?

Well.I suppose who would sell their (p)ride & joy?

    • +2

So what is the price of a brand new Holden bought from the Dealers?? Which is how this offer works.

      • So what is the price of a brand new Holden bought from the Dealers??

ummm I don't know, since there isn't an option to select holden on the website….

        • +1

What car Dealers sell new Holdens??
          Haven't been produced since 2017!

That's why there is no option to see price of recent sales of new Holdens sold by car dealers!

      • Username checks out

  • Interesting concept. Knowledge is power.

  • +3

…derived from the dutiable value at time of government registration.

I wonder if the data takes into account people often understating the transfer value?

    • +2

Don't think that's possible on a new car. The dealers handle the transfer papers to get the car registered in the buyer's name.

      • Agree, I was speed reading and didn't realise this is for new cars

  • Need to get a car first then…

    • +1

No, this Deal is to help you negotiate with car dealers on price of NEW car you want to buy, knowing what price range others have recently paid new car dealers.

Pointless after you already bought your car!

      • Oh really. Cool then. Thanks for clarification

      • Until you sell it

        • Think Deal will have expired by then - if buying a car now & selling it later (to buy another NEW car using this offer).

      • Dealers are negotiating prices again?

        • That's the assumption underlying this Deal.

As discussed below, supply shortages, fixed price for Mercedes, needing to match exactly to model & features in estimate - all place limitations on this offer.

          Hence why its likely FREE!

  • -1

Such data exists in the minds of sellers and buyers only. Carsales can be used to get price ranges, but that's even not right as they go by advertised price and ends up being above market rate. Might be helpful as an indication only?

    • they go by advertised price and ends up being above market rate

yaa-Naa! Did you read Deal Description?

Reportedly "derived from the dutiable value at time of government registration".

"The actual average price is based on the most recently available transactional data" of prices paid to car dealers - "for the specific make, model, and variant you are looking to purchase in your state".

      NOT the advertised price.

      • Dealers rip people off …

        • We never knew that - thanks😉

  • Can't select the actual year, defaults to the most recent models.

    • +2

That's how this Deal works - price of NEW cars sold by Dealers, based on the most recently available transactional data.

      Not used cars!

It gives you more power to negotiate with car dealers on price of new car you want to buy, knowing what price range others have recently paid.

      • ahh missed that.. Fair enough. Thanks!

        • Took me a while to understand.
Unlikely I'll ever buy a new car, to use this Deal!

      • +2

Buyers will have to be very careful they're getting exactly the same model vehicle as the data specifies, especially at runout / model update time. Also, state-wide price averages can be very misleading due to lack of competition in some areas compared to others.

This service was probably more useful before supply issues and manufacturers' pricing models (Honda etc) reduced available discounts.

        • It certainly has its limitations!
          Especially now with supply problems.
          Guess that's why it's free!

Getting a good deal on a new car would likely depend on how many dealers are close by.

So big city price should be more competitive & this might be useful in negotiations. As long as same model, features, etc are available - as you point out!

Using the averaged sell price (more sold in big centres at likely lower prices) would be next to useless at country dealers. As well, there the delivery cost is higher & profits likely tighter.

  • No Merc? Or am i missing something? 🤔

  • Why would you need this? Just check what everyone wants to sell at on the various websites and then negotiate

    • Inside information is handy in negotiations. But most of us don't have that.

Guess you haven't read Trump's book "The Art of the Deal"😂 (I haven't)
Or know that Australia bugged our poorest neighbour, just to get a better Deal…

So, next best is to know what others are really negotiating & paying for that actual model & features you want, it should give you far better grounds to negotiate a lower price. (Even though it's just an average of sell prices.)
      That's basically this Deal.

Better than only going by publicly available prices posted by Dealers!! And not all additional costs of extra features are shown online.
By that logic, guess OzBargain is next to useless… Back to looking at ads to find best price, rather than sharing what we know!!

hippyhippy - what is your experience in negotiating NEW car prices??
You suggest looking at the Dealers ads… But also comment Dealers rip people off …

We might think we've got a good Deal, but we usually don't know what others are paying. This Deal gives a better idea of actual prices & could help some.

      • I get my novated lease guy to do it… he will get me the fleet prices

        • So you don't do the negotiations, but seek some inside information & bulk leasing power😉

Same as buying, can use a broker to negotiate. They have better access to prices being negotiated & buy more than 1 at a time (fleet prices).
They may understand tax implications & income offsets as well.

For others, this Deal may help with negotiations.

          • @INFIDEL: Nope.. i go around to a few dealers.. see their best price and then ask my guy… he always gets better prices

Otherwise just go to whingepool and ask what other people been getting

            • @hippyhippy: That means you don't negotiate the Deal! Why would you. Someone else gets their cut for doing that.

        • There are also brokers who claim(ed) - prior to covid etc - to get the best available deal for you. Works a bit like cash reward / referral agents for those who don't know. This may be a good option for timid buyers. Always worth shopping around to get a base price first as you suggest, although the market isn't exactly buoyant from a buyer's perspective - depending on what you want of course.

  • Unlocked one and bought another two. Prices are pretty close to dealers' offers.
