What's The Best Supermarket Tub of Ice Cream You Can Buy?

Sooo I've been a bit sad at how expensive ice creams have become and don't see many specials in the supermarket these days…

I'm going to bite the bullet and just pay retail until I can get something decent on special.

What's your go to supermarket tub of ice cream and why? To keep it simple, I'm talking about those made with dairy milk. ๐Ÿ„

Always been a sucker for Bulla Creamy Classics Cookies and Cream

Bought your recommendation of Camarosa Strawberry. I paired it with the Connoiseur Matcha flavour and it's phenomenal.

      Thank you for your suggestion!

Glad you enjoyed it. I actually picked up a Bulla Creamy Hazelnut (Coles exclusive) on offer and you were right too! Delightfully creamy and smooth with tons of flavour. Thanks for suggestion back at you!

  • Golden North.

    • I've never seen it in Coles… I'll have a closer look for it thanks

      • might be only available in SA??

They are all pretty bad compared to what you can get from a restaurant with any size ice cream maker. Supermarket ice cream has too much ice in it or something.

    • hmm I'm guessing it's related to how recentl the icecream has been churned?

      • Or how long it's meant to last in and out a freezer, vs recipes made to be eaten the same day or within a few days.

    • What restaurants have an ice cream maker?

      • Ice cream makers aren't very expensive and don't take up much space.

I'm not arguing that fact but what restaurants have ice cream makers?

I can't think of any that make their own. They buy them in 10L tubs.

Picnic icecream in the round tub ๐Ÿ‘Œ

    • woah, that sounds divine

  • Standard cheapo
Crown (Aldi) cone chocolate is just as good enough too.

Otherwise Woolies Coffee, and Choc chippie is good too

So is the Weis Mango/mango with macadamia

The Aldi connoisseur lookalike is pretty good, I rate the mint to be the same level as Connoisseur. They used to be under $5, but recently changed to $5.99 :( but still cheaper than half price Cons.

The Hinterland Jersey Caramel Macadamia is aaamaaazing though, bought it once on special. Tastes like one you'd pay for at a gelato shop

    • ooo Hinterland. got to give it to the packaging it looks nice. I always thought it was a more boujee version of Connoiseur

      • Similar price to Connoisseur though I did it get it half price at the time but I've rarely seen it on sale since

  • IGA black&gold vanilla with choc chips. - for an inexpensive ice-cream it is very palatable.

certainly not on par as a gourmet tub. but value for quantity.

the Much Moore Awesome Salted Caramel Ice Cream Tub 2l - currently $7 at woolworths - is phenomenal.

    • I've bought the much more awesome foursome to try, i'll try salted caramel next. thanks!

B&J - Chunky Monkey. I love a good banana choc ice cream. Its availability is on and off at Woolies but i tend to buy a couple when its on. It reminds me of banana choc top, the ones you can only find in cinemas back in the days.

  • Pana organic when half price

  • I would have said Connoiseur, but the Coles Irresistible 1L tubs are nearly as good and the best value in my opinion. I add lime juice and crushed nuts to the Salted Caramel flavour, delicious.

    • I have not heard of lime and salted caramel as a flavour combination but it sounds too good not to try

Hershey's Chocolate Caramel is my pick. I used to get the Harry's caramel ice cream but it's no longer available at my local stores so not sure if it's be discontinued.

  • The discount ice-cream sandwiches that don't melt in direct sunlight.

    Aldi Obsession is pretty decent.

I like plain vanilla ice cream mixed with freshly crushed violet crumble.

    Woolworths salted caramel

Strawberry Haagen-Dazs. It's just cream, skim milk, sugar, egg yolk, strawberries. Can't go any simpler than that.
