Second Hand 65" OLED (5 years old) for $900 - Good Deal?

Looking to replace a 10-year-old 64" plasma that "died" recently (quote: $500 to fix). Came across a 2nd hand 65" LG B7 OLED for $900, just wondering if anyone knows anything about this model? From what I can gather it came out about 5 years ago. Any advice would be welcome, thanks.

Can't really tell you anything without knowing the actual age, hours on & condition. Most importantly, if there's any burn-in on the screen.

  • Came across a 2nd hand 65" Samsung B7 OLED

    Do you mean LG B7?

The B series are the lower end models in LG's OLED lineup. That's already a neg.

5 years for an older OLED that are prone to burn-in is the most concerning.

I would recommend getting a smaller 55 inch A2 for under $2000 or wait for the C2 55 to go on sale.

    • Sorry, yes I meant LG. I have updated my post. Yes, B series is low end but the B7 and C7 shared the exact same panel.

Having thought about it. $900 ain't bad for a 65 incher. Really depends on the condition of the set.

  • I’m pretty sure my tv is a b7 (in the 55”). Got it in the Boxing Day sales… in last few days of maybe 2017… paid $1888 from good guys.

Still love the tv. Blacks are black, colours are good. On board speakers are pretty good for a thin panel.

Software is ok, don’t have to wait too long for Netflix, YouTube, etc to load. The icons on the Remote buttons have worn off… I sadly missed out in the cheap replacement remote deal.

I don’t use consoles so can’t talk about gaming. I also don’t watch sport, so can’t comment on that.

I think new a1 panels in the 65 are over $2500… but then you get warranty etc. tough call. I guess it depends on your usage and if the current panels are more future proofed etc.

As it stands I reckon my current b7 is still going strong.

  • Dont do it!

Older OLED TVs suffer from burn in a lot easier than current gen.

    • Mine is still perfect because I'm careful with it and don't watch stupid stuff with static content. (profanity) channel seven and their burning bright red overlays.

      • lol exactly this, last one i saw had '7' burned into it as well as bars from news channel.

I have an LG C7 (same panel as all the LG x7 OLEDs) and it's still amazing.

Definitely check for burn-in with colored images, especially magenta.

Take a USB stick with jpegs of different solid colors on it and the internal "Photos and Videos" app can show them.

I got my panel replaced for free by LG a couple of years ago for the LUT issue which is manufacturing defect - a slightly lighter rectangle in the centre of the screen.

Still a great TV, I admire the picture quality every day.

Don't be worried about the newer ones having slightly higher max brightness, that also increases burn-in risk, and a 20-50% brightness increase isn't that much. I don't run mine at full brightness anyway, it's too bright in the evening. Think I have my OLED light setting at around 40-50 out of 100.

    • I just bought the TV for $850. No burn-in that I could see (I ran a burn in test video). He said the panel was replaced under warranty 2 1/2 years ago due to burn in.

      • That's great, the panel it was replaced with is probably a newer panel like I got. The newer panels have larger red pixels so they are more resistant to burn-in.

        Congrats!

  • I have an 2017;LG Oled 55 inch c7 I got the screen replaced because of burn in that was a couple of years ago it’s been fine ever since, just do a colour test before you buy.

  • it's not a bad price for the B7, the processor would be a bit dated and being a 5 year old TV i'd be wary of it.

the C8/B8 i feel was a fair bit of a jump up and would be my go to.

Having said that $900 for an OLED is not a bad price.

  • do you really need oled?

    otherwise LED TV:

    LG 65" $1195, 1 year warranty

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/lg-65-inches-uq90-4k-led-smar…

Hisense 65" $995, 3 years warranty, 3 years worry free

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/hisense-65-inches-a7-series-u…

plus you get huge saving on power consumption

  • I wouldn't buy any used TV at all. Burn in is a thing, but TV these days are simply planned obsolescence they can die any second after the warranty expire.
There are other TVs that will fit your budget and you don't need to risk throwing your money into the drain.

  • the performance of OLED degrades over time. If the TV had a lot of screen time, it is worth much lower because the brightness intensity, color, etc will be much lower in performance. Moreover, burn in prevention technology back in the days is not as good as the current tech. You might be receiving a very worn out panel. Maybe get a bit of life left but for $900 you will be paying again soon. It really all depends on the in person condition inspection.
