  • In terms of "Pay no international transaction fees for purchases you make overseas or online". Is it a good alternative against 28degrees?

    Hey guys,

Just be mindful, it wouldn't be the first time something like this happens.

  • Noob to credit card game. Can i get this, spend $1500 get $300 then close it. And open their awards credit card? I like the cb but these don't give award points.

  • Partner applied for this, submitted all required documents over two weeks ago and still not heard anything from them. Anyone has waited that long?

    • You can check it online if you have an ID. It should say application completed if approved.

      • "Our team is now reviewing everything you've told us before making a decision on your credit card application. We'll be back in touch soon."

It was like that 2 weeks ago.

        • Send a message via the app, you can leave a message during work hours and they'll respond and you'll get a notification.

Got mine pushed through within a day.

  • To anyone who has previously done this/similar deal with CommBank. T and Cs say cashback will be applied to balance within 90 days of reaching the threshold. How long did it take to get it after hitting it from experience?

    • Two weeks.

  • for some reason im unable to apply for this card. i fill in all my details, and then when i click on review, and click on i agree, it redirects me to fill in my details > i review and agree again > redirects me to fill in .. its a never ending cycle ..

    anyone know what's happening?

    • Did you find a fix for this? I'm getting the same issue.

      • EDIT: work address is mandatory field.

  • Does anyone on the thread knows, whether rent and utility bill payments via this credit card qualify as cash advance, or purchases? Unfortunately I received the card only today after the black Friday sales and I have activated it now, just want to confirm if I can meet the 1500$ criteria by bill payments and rent via bpay, or would I need to make actual purchases on the card?

I checked a portal and it says it differs from bank to bank https://www.creditcard.com.au/how-to-make-bpay-payments-from…

    • answering my own question, I called CBA customer care, waited for them to pickup call for 30 mins, and they informed me that BPAY are considered as purchases and not cash advance.
So I can potenitally meet 1500$ criteria with bill and rent payments. I have asked them to send me the exact url in terms and conditions where it mentions this so I can confirm it.
But it seems BPAY would not qualify for award points.

  • Anyone had the $300 yet? I'm assuming (hoping) it's after the first statement with at least $1500 on it.

    • -1

It has nothing to do with statement. It should appear within 2 weeks after eligible spend.

      • +2

Well that is apparently not the case - cleared $1500 two weeks ago now.

        • Have you received yours yet? I made the minimum spend about 20 days ago and have received my first statement but nothing yet

    • +1

I got my $300 today. Just curious, can I transfer that $300 to another account or must I spend it from that credit card? Balance showing as $4300.

      • Mine arrived today too, putting my credit card into credit too 😅

      • +2

If you transfer to another account or withdraw from atm, you'll hit with cash advance fee. Just spend that amount as normal.

  • I have "Excellent" credit rating, how much it will dip if I get this card?

    • +1

      A measly 5 points?

I wouldn't worry too much on credit rating scores. We're not in America.

      • +1

I applied for CBA's BNPL product in December 2021 and it caused a 100+ drop in my credit rating.

        • +1

Partner applied for this and the credit hasn't change.

  • How good is their rewards program? Being looking for free card with regards program for a while. It looks like this is the only option with some sort of rewards. Anyone know how good is the reward program?

    • Have you click the link and see any reward program with this card?

I guess you won't find one.

      • Yeah i did. Doesn't look like they have. Its just discount offers like Optus perks. But no points that you can redeem

        • Rewards program accessible via App only. There's award program, not accessible, two different things.

  • Any restriction on where to spend the minimum $1500? Does paying government fees such as rates and car rego contributes towards the spending amount requirement? I know Westpac credit cards don't count those type of payments

  • Did anybody receive their cashback but it was only 200? I applied for the 300, not sure if the additional 100 is coming on another transfer

    • +1

What was your credit limit? This card has minimum $4k limit. Anything under and you'll automatically be put on low fee card (non-gold).

  • Is the travel insurance that comes with this as good or even better than any other travel insurance i.e Travel Insurance Direct etc?

Understand that there are some concerns with travel insurance offerings that come together with Credit card offers in the past

    • This is a duplicate comment, and I've already responded on your original :)

  • Spent $1500 by 10 Dec, first statement paid 22 Dec, still no cashback yet. Didn't expect CommBank to be this slow

  • Tried many times but always get below message after put down the name, birthday, address etc, any idea why?

    Something's gone wrong.
Try again later or drop in to your nearest CommBank branch and complete your application there instead.""

  • how long does it typically take to get cashback? spent required amount ~30 days ago, have had first statement but still no cashback

    • +1

got $300 cash back today as well, took nearly 60 days since reaching spend req

      • +1

i had to call them to ask, 2 days later $300 cashback backdated in Dec. ..

  • +1

Applied and heard nothing for 3 days. This is new for me as in the past, all banks got back to me in 1 business day. CBA is so slow despite I am their customer

  • +1

Still waiting to receive cash-back. Been >30 days since spend was reached.

    • Same. Spent over $1500 in December but yet to receive the cashback.

    • +1

      Same! Still waiting

      • Waited for more than 2 weeks but heard nothing. Then I sent a message to them via the app (existing customer) and got approved the day after. The application must have stuck in limbo somewhere in their system.

        • Thanks for clarifying however these replies are regarding already being approved and meeting the spend. Waiting for the payout.

  • Got my $300. Bought $1500 worth of 4% discounted Woolies cards 01/02/2023 and cashback appeared today 10/05/2023 but is apparently dated 05/02/2023.

  • Got rejected for the card, high income and good credit rating. That is weird.

  • +1

    offer has been extended.

  • hi guys, just sharing my unhappy experience with Commonwealth bank credit card application. I applied the low fee gold card with bonus cash 300, but they sent me a low fee card with bonus cash 200, silently,

I realize unitil I received the bonus cash, called the staff, they said because they can only give me credit limit of 2000, and it is in their terms and condition they can swap the card to a low fee card, without informing me anything, in this case, I have never realize until after using the card for 1 month. I do not think it is a fair action. Since I applied for the gold which means I do not want something else. And btw, I got way more credit limit left, when I applied the card I only have a citi card of 10000 limit, I usually have 3-4 credit card with more limit, so really not sure how they decide they cannot give me 4000 limit of gold card instead of 2000 limit of low fee card.

    • Did you set the credit limit as $2k yourself? Doesn't sound right that they gave you credit limit of $2k when you can have that much more.

I agree, a lot of people have been caught out for this deal when they lowered their credit limit when applying and Commbank automatically drops you down to a different card. It needs to be clearer.

      • Oh great point mate…I think I got the problem, I kind of remember in some screen they ask for the credit limit, I put 2000, since the cashback only need spent 1500, so that is maybe why they give me a low fee card, damn….but they should not allow me to put 2000 as limit as the gold card has min 4000 limit requirement, and I am applying for a gold card

        • CBA uses the same application form for all the low fee cards, so depending on how far you slide the credit limit will change what card you get.

  • Can't find anything on the T&Cs saying about $300 cash back. How long does it take to honour cashback and is it guaranteed?

    • What do you mean you cannot find anything on T&C?

To be eligible for the $300 cashback on a new Low Fee Gold card, you need to spend at least $1,500 on purchases (not including balance transfers and cash advances) using your new card within 90 days of activation. Cashback will be credited within 90 days of you meeting the spend criteria and will appear on your statement as ‘CASHBACK $300’.

      • When they send you out the printed T&C with your Credit Card there is no mention of Cashback

        • They never send the promotion on those T&Cs.

          • @CodeXD: Just sat on hold for 38 mins trying to talk to someone but no luck

            • @motion2082: Why don't you send them a message in app?

              • @timhn: I just found that feature and hit them up
They said all good so will wait and see now

      • The bank tried to do a dodgy and only pay me $200 cash back instead of $300. Lucky I checked. Not the first time the bank haven't honored these types of offers.

They alledge that "Our records show your Low Fee MasterCard account was established on 28 February 2023. This account has a $200.00 cash back offer if the terms and conditions of the cash back offer are met. You met the terms and conditions of the cash back offer and a credit of $200.00 representing the cash back offer was processed to your account on 29 March 2023."

The Low Fee Gold MasterCard account has a cash back offer of $300.00. Unfortunately, you were not eligible for this cash back offer as this is not the account type that you hold.

The smudge response by CBA on the last paragraph "Please be advised that this offer may not be repeated if an incident like this occurs again in future"

I have finished my investigation into your complaint

I am writing to update you on the progress of your complaint about the MasterCard cash back offer. I’d also like to apologise for your recent experience with us and the inconvenience it has caused.

I have finished my investigation and concluded that I will provide you with a payment of $100.00 reflecting the difference in the cash back offer amount.

        What happens next

I will now pay $100.00 into your account ending in 7897 within two business days.

This decision has been based on your relationship with the Bank. Please be advised that this offer may not be repeated if an incident like this occurs again in future. This will ensure that your financial loss is minimised as result of this incident.

        • What is the credit limit on your card?

Minimum credit limit of $4,000 for Low Fee Gold Credit Card

Some people got stung earlier when they lowered their credit limit during application and Commbank automatically changed their card to a lower one.

  • I'm a CBA customer but don't have any credit cards with them, only debit and eftpos card. Am I eligible for this offer?

    • Offer available on new Low Fee Gold credit cards applied for between 1 Nov 2022 and 28 Feb 2023 Offer not available on all other card types (including Low Fee), existing cards, switches from other card types, and new Low Fee credit cards if you currently hold, or have held, any Low Fee or Low Rate card type in the 12 months prior.

What about in the last 12 months?

      • Never had a credit card with them

Only card I have now is Eftpos and Debit mastercard.

        • Then you're all good.

          • @CodeXD: Thanks will apply.

I assume university fees count as eligible purchases?

            • @Homr: oh boy, you are asking the wrong person about university fees ahaha

              • @CodeXD: Sorry, I mistaken your name as ChatGPT

  • Wording is unclear - I have a Diamond card, am I eligible?

  • Dumb question. Paid $1000 deposit with this card on my new car today. Is it an eligible purchase? Thanks guys first time using CC.

  • to be covered for the car rental do you need to pay for it using the card and agree to take up and pay the rental company's own insurance policy including their excess fee waiver? defeats the purpose if the only benefit is if you are in an accident then CBA insurance will cover the excess fee up to $2500 ?
