Is It Safe to Drive a Motorbike in Perth?

I'm moving to Perth from Cairns. I only own a motorbike and drive it everywhere.

I would like to continue to drive motorbikes. Since Perth is a bigger city than Cairns, are motorbikes a safe method of transport? Do you see motorbikes in Perth?

Thanks

  • I haven't seen that many motorbikes in Perth, and cars would most likely be more common than motorbikes. Having said that, if you are fine with bikes in Cairns, I can't see why there would be any issue in riding the bike in Perth.

    • But I never see motorbikes in Perth.

      • Yeah it is quite rare.

I don't know about rare - I also never been to Perth.

That's like asking if there's fish in the sea.

Depends how safely you drive it.

Nup, in perth we get around on horseback. Wouldn't want your bike scaring my horse and causing a traffic jam

    • East city folk like to call them Hatchback.

Surely the real question is is it safe to ride a motorcycle. At all. Anywhere. If you think its safe to ride it in Cairns, by your standards its safe to ride it in Perth.

      Vietnam ?

    no

  • Long way to bike it!
We "Corolla'd" it the other way.
Roads are more straight over there, nowhere to lean down in tight curves.
Back in the 80's they had plain A4 sheets of paper as drivers licenses, no checks at all anybody with the right printer could print one.
Literacy is a tad higher over there so you might live another day?

Yes and you can lane filter.

    Who "drives" a motorbike?? lol

I heard that people from the eastern states are known as "easties" over there and the locals will make it their mission to pancake any "easties" on a motorbike with their big mining transport trucks 👌

  • Its certainly less safe now in general than it was when I started in the early 80's…

Motorcyclists are welcome in WA. But please remember to register as a organ donor, so they don't go to waste.

    • More people die in car accidents so everyome should be a donor

  • Make sure you have mud tyres unless it’s a dirt bike. There are no bitumen roads in WA. Hence they all have land cruisers. Spackbace may be an exception.

    • Spackbace is the only one in WA with a hybrid RAV4.

GX tho, still working out what to do with that damn kayak

  • As safe as anywhere else, I am looking into getting one myself (also in Perth).

  • WA probably has a fair share of heavy vehicles given its mining industry. They are big vehicles so if you are travelling on regional highways, a biker might feel more of it. Sensible biking is the key.
