[NSW] Red Light Camera in Beverly Hills (King Georges Road and Tooronga Tce)

There are signs for a red light speed camera in Beverly Hills on the intersection of King Georges Road and Tooronga Tce. There are 2 cameras there but they look very old.

https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/46868/99473/20221115_1…

I dont see it listed on
https://roadsafety.transport.nsw.gov.au/speeding/speedcamera…

Does that mean its been decomissioned .

  • Did you drive through the intersection on a red light?

    • -1

      Yes lol.

      • Then wait for the fine an points letter in the mail.

        • +1

That wasnt the question. If its not listed on the website, does it mean its decomissioned

@easternculture: Someone tell him "Sure, I guess. Maybe". already

          • @easternculture: The following is a location:
LOCATION ROAD SCHOOLS NEAR CAMERA/ COMMENT
Beverly Hills King Georges Road, between Stoney Creek Road and Edgbaston Road Beverly Hills Girls High School

Check where the "Beverly Hills Girls High School" is in relation to OP's address and then check out goolge street view and my post looks good for being a valid response.

            • @AndyC1: Thats a school zone speed camera where the shops are. The one in question is up further driving towards M5

          • @easternculture: My guess is no ! If you got flashed you got fined , not rocket science

          • +2

@easternculture: Yep, you'll be completely fine.

All that black friday savings has gone down the drain…..

        • -5

Dont care about the money, more about the points.
Was distracted by a phone call from a client. Dont usually make or take calls while driving 🙄

            @easternculture:

Dont care about the money, phone call from a client.

Are you a dealer or something?🤨🤨🤨

            • @[Deactivated]: I drive for work. So points matter.
Demerit points means paying more for rego, insurance etc until you get full points back (40 months)

              • @easternculture: You should do something OZB/saving related given your expertise. But then again, your clients might be tight arses.

                Good luck.

            • @[Deactivated]: You chopped up what OP wrote to create your own sentence that said something completely different.

              • @cookie2: blah blah blah blah blah…
I wasn't being serious and still doesn't change the information. Learn to take a joke!😣😣😣

          • +1

@easternculture: So on the mobile phone + redlight?? Start planning on walking.

Did you drive through the intersection on a red light?

      Thanks for asking, Cheers.

      • +2

        That makes sense. Cheers.

  • +1

    Not on list. Definitely decommissioned.

    • not legal advice
  • Does that mean its been decomissioned .

    Maybe, maybe not

  • The speed camera is not at the intersection of King Georges Road and Tooronga Tce, it is further down King Georges Rd (heading towards Hurstville) next to a set of traffic lights. If you headed the other way (towards Flemington etc) than the camera is outside Beverly Hills girls high school.

So if the red light you ran was at the intersection of King Georges Road and Tooronga Tce, then you will be ok.

    question is.
did u smile and get ur good side

  • +1

I think you're fine OP. AFAIK those style cameras are decomissioned and left in place as decoys. There's a couple in my area with one even having spraypaint over the lens that hasn't been cleaned up for months.

That particular location doesn't appear on this map either

  • The link provided is for SPEED cameras of the various sorts.

The image provided is a RED LIGHT camera.

A red light camera is not going to on a list of speed cameras. Not unless it is also a speed camera.

    • Drop down box and choose red light/speed camera

      • +1

But its NOT a red light/speed camera. Its a red light camera. I repeat, the link the OP provided is for speed cameras, not red light cameras.

        • I thought about that but there is no reference i can find for the camera except on a list compiled in 2002

          https://redlightcamera.tripod.com/nsw.html

        • +2

That's because 'red light' only cameras don't exist.

They're all red light/speed now. Any that are signposted as red light cameras (i.e they don't say speed) are decoys.

  • That link you've provided is for speed cameras (including those that double as red light cameras). The camera in question appears to be a red light only camera.

Not sure if there is/couldn't easily find an equivalent list of red light only cameras.

    • Thats the only link.
As far as im aware, regulations make it compulsary to disclose locations of fixed speed, red light, or redlight/speed cameras.
Which makes me think that its a very old camera they decomissioned and replaced it with the one between Stoney creek road and Edgbaston Road

    • That's because 'red light' only cameras don't exist.

They're all red light/speed now. Any that are signposted as red light cameras (i.e they don't say speed) are decoys.

      • Fingers crossed.
Now to play the waiting game for a letter … or not

    Blasts through a red light… nek minnit…

Was distracted by a phone call from a client.

And let me guess… you also clicked the recent poll that you are an awesome driver…

It may not be working, and that would be a shame… seems like you need a wake up call being on the phone, distracted and blasting a red.

    • Trust me, i was terrified when i realised and was thankful i didnt cause an accident . Its the first time ive gone through a red light, i always stop on amber.

Its a tricky intersection and first time i drive through it, you turn on king georges road and a few seconds later, red light.

  • For some reason this reminds me of a red light camera I saw that was going nuts and taking photos of every single car that passed it 😂.

Imagine sorting through that mess of tens of thousands of photos to find those 6 that were actually going past on a red. The people who were actually running a red probably got a free pass lol.

  • Did it flash?

    • Didnt notice a flash

      • If it means anything the red light camera I saw going nuts was flashing for every car and this was during the day time.

      • i remeber having dinner at a cafe near the 9thwr speed camera a few metres down the road and it was like new years eve, flash like fire works every few.minutes

  • u should take one for the team and test if the camera is working
go drive down at 70km amd run red at 3am in the monring and test it to see if its working

    • I was thinking of trying with a bike lol.
Not sure if its heavy enough to trigger sensors

      • +2

The sensors are induction coils. They care about the steel content of what is above it, the weight is irrelevant.

  • Why would it be decomissioned?

    • Those style ones for whatever reason have been taken out of service and left as decoys. I'm not sure if perhaps those are the old film based ones that were being decommissioned a while back?

    • old skool film cameras, done gone bye byes.

  • I think it is one of the greatest monry makers there has even been Why would they decommision it ?

    • Older technology. Was probably reppaced with the one down the road near the cinema

  • Just went past it again today and sign before it says speed camera. Looks like its a fixed speed camera and most likely decomissioned to replace it with a variable speed camera because of the school zone.

  • I thought I went through that one a few years ago as I was distracted by a drunk passenger in the early hours so wasn’t 100%. I never received a penalty but like you, plenty of stress while waiting.

    • Do you find that intersection abit odd and confusing when turning from tooronga Tce. One set of lights to another in a short distance

      • I was coming from the city and haven’t turned from there before. I find it annoying due to the sheer amount of lights there. If you’re looking as far ahead as you should while driving, you can be looking 2 sets of lights ahead.

  • Hi just wondering you got penalty ticket or not

  • We got done there a few months ago for speeding during school zone.
No excuse but I accelerated to overtake, so a dumb move.
Hopefully it was out of action for you.
