"Turn-based space 4X strategy game in which you attempt to build a thriving galactic empire."

I've really been enjoying this, having got it a couple of months ago. I got tired of the standard 4x Civ games (and clones) because I feel like they out-stay their welcome. In this one you don't have to research every technology and/or destroy every opponent to win. Choosing which technology to research when, and what cultural milestone is most meaningful for your situation leads to interesting choices that mean you aren't playing out the same strategy every time. Opponents are not out to get you from the beginning and you don't engage wars lasting several centuries (although the option is there to make the enemy more or less aggressive than the default for the chosen difficulty level.

Apparently this is Masters of Orion clone with some improvements, but I never played MOO so I can't really comment on that.

I beta tested the 1.5 update which made some nice improvements. Presumably the sale is to celebrate the update.

DLC is also on special, but since I just bought them I can't comment.
