Sad that you can get a 4090 for almost this price and it's 30% faster. No idea what nvidia is thinking. It's not 2020 anymore.

    • +9

To move their rtx 30 stocks.

    • +1

I got this same card but the 4090 for $300 extra (+11.5%), so definitely not worth it at this price.

    • it's nuts. ROG strix 4080 and Galax GeForce RTX 4090 SG are both $2999 each. Why would anyone buy a 4080?

    • Even if it was 2020, the 4090 has a much higher ETH hashrate, which would make the 4080 even more worthless…

  • +7

Is this OzRRP, or OzInStock? Where's the bargain on this overpriced doorstop?

    • yep I got my cards mixed up! bad deal. expired it.

    • Agreed

  • +5

Isn't this the same price as the 4090?

  • +5

If you're dropping 2.6K on a GPU, why would you not scrape another $400 and go 4090 (https://www.pccasegear.com/products/59867/galax-geforce-rtx-…)
Like, this price makes little to no sense.

    • +12

JFC, i just checked other variant pricing and there are 4080s (like the ROG Strix) which are the same price as the 4090. That's soooo dumb

      • Nvidia is filled to the brim with 30 series stock, thats why they're so stupidly priced. Catch me buying a 2080Ti for $800 though lol.

        • Best to avoid the Turing cards as a lot of them come with defective micron memory.

          • +1

@iseeyou1312: It’s not like I’m buying new and I’m already on that architecture, so should be fine to take the gamble. Appreciate the heads up.

            • @doobey1231: It was eventually fixed sometime in 2019, so 2080/2070/2060 super should be okay, but it's super risky to buy a 2080 Ti or the original 2060/2070/2080.

    • +1

Its their new strategy i.e. to get everyone to buy their flagship model.

  • +2

I thought they scrapped the 4080 as it was only 5% better than 3080.

Also NVIDIA are dreaming with this pricing

    • +1

      They're changing the 3080 12gb to 3070ti or something

      • +5

        U mean the 4080 12gb?

  • +3

I think I'll wait it out longer

  • +7

The pricing on the 4080 is ridiculous compared to the also ridiculous 4090. Retailers can go take a flying leap at this price.

  • +2

The RX6950 XT doesn't do to bad against this card in rasterisation performance its around 20% slower.

Jensen be in the shower singing TLC no scrubs with cards priced like this lol

  • +5

Is that the MSRP or a special? I didn't expect them to be this expensive.
Makes the 7900XTX look like a much better deal.

    • +2

I think It makes any mined card a good buy as well

      • yes, that's why they put a high price tag on it

  • +2

Normally I give nvidia a fraction of a doubt, as for productivity they’ve always done better, 40 series not so much, the power connector debacle was just funny

  • +3

If you can afford this, you can afford a 4090. I have no idea who the target market is for the 4080 at anywhere near these prices.

    • +2

      The up sell card

  • Honestly let Nvidia sit and swivel on these prices. They are only so high so they can justify the remaining 30 series stock at their new prices.. I was going to go from 2070 to 3070 but I think 2080Ti is a much better value ratio.

  • +3

Well played, Jacket Man is pricing the 4080 to make the 4090 look good value

Next step will be to announce a trade in program like Apple to lock you into high NVIDIA pricing for life

  • +2

Bought my 4090 for only $300 more than this..

    • That makes sense it's only…

      What? 4090 is 30% faster!?

So much material for GPU bargain comment threads. We're going to cracking jokes about the 4000 series release for years.

    • +3

Hope they dont sell any lol

  • +1

I got so lucky right after the ETH merge. Scored a 3080 for 772 second hand delivered. Perfect condition. So glad I jumped in then. Prices have gone back up since.

  • +3

Nvidia is asking for too much.. We used to get faster graphics cards at the same price but now we need to pay for every bit of extra performance? NO thanks! They either make something faster at the same price point or no deal.

  • +5

Nvidia releasing one of the most expensive $ per frame cards out there. Will be looking at AMD this generation , still don't care about ray tracing performance

    • +1

I care about ray tracing performance, but there's obviously no point paying double or triple the price for it.

    • +2

AMD raytracing will probably be acceptable this gen so you don't really miss out much. Especially at the lower price.

  • +1

    🤣😂🤣😂

    • +1

Usually when someone says "these prices are a joke" they're at least a little bitter about it, but I'm not even mad, this is genuine comedic material.

  • +1

This is overprice. GPU price is crashing.

  • +3

2021 called they went their ridiculous prices back

  • +1

This make 4090 absolutely bargain at $3k, greediest company. I thought Apple might have very high profit margin on M1 MacBook Air, but i dont think 4090 cost double to be built. Apple are so kind compared to Nvidia.

  • +1

    stop posting shit like this.

    • +4

      Dude at least i'm trying!

Yes I made a mistake with this one - posted it in a rush and couldn't find the delete button afterwards.

      • Happened to me before, dont worry man a lot of your posts are good quality so I believe you.

  • Every new generation I remain hopeful to get back into PC gaming. Every time the prices of top tier gpus are released I postpone this idea because of the bullshit pricing.

    • That's because you are only considering nvidia (thats the only company that overprices their gpu's) you can take a loot at AMD or Intel Arc cards. As long as productivity isn't your main goal seeing as you want to game mostly, I'd say RTX cards aren't worth it when you can get better value for money elsewhere at the moment.

  • This is insane pricing. Also the new power connectors need to go back to the drawing board.

    • Way too high price !!

HODLers been hodling since 3080 was sold for $1139 from 2 years ago, only to find being shat on the face by ngreedia with $2599 4080.

    LOL

    • +1

$1139 was a shit price that's why we hodled. $350 6600xt is the bar.

The 3080 is only 40% faster yet 4 times more expensive

      https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-rtx-3080.c3621

      • -3

you should move on from 6600xt. you live in the world where lunch meal costs $3.50, now its $15 on average.

just suck it up otherwise you stuck in the past.

        • To what though? I'm laughing. I have better fps per dollar with like 25% the initial outlay. 3080 needs to be like $500 to compete with the $349 6600xt. The 3080 is only 41% faster

That's how badly nvidia is ripping people off. $15 lunches are for cattle

  • +2

    $2600 bahah

Here's one for $2300 when paying with Zip

  • +3

    this is ozBARGAIN not ozINSTOCK

  • -4

All the HOLDers disappeared after realising they weren't affecting anything.

  • Just checked Nvidia's official US website, and price starts from US$1199.99 to US$1549.99, which equals AU$1779.34 and AU$2298.31. Didn't realize the price difference between the US and Australian markets.

  • -2

Bought a msi 4080 ventus. Fits in my case and runs cooler with less power draw. Would have bought a 4090 but couldn't get a founders edition.

  • +1

Cant justify this card for over $2K value, considering the price to performance this should be listed at a RRP of $1799 or maybe less. The PC games are already so expensive and on top you are paying a premium to run those games on an acceptable frame rates. Greedy bastards these video card companies, good ol' days when VIA came up with the graphic chips , however not all goats can eat the grass. China's Moores Law and Intel's new ARC .. where would these lead us ? !

  • +1

Anything above $1800 isnt worth if you are not a content creator, with the inflation rates so high.

    • +1

Anything above $400 isn't worth it to play video games. Most the time people just rage and have a shit time anyway. Not to mention sedentary activities are incredibly bad for your health
