      It's a Barracuda, that's why.

        Yep, not a NAS drive.

But for most users & use cases NAS drives are totally unnecessary.

      • It's a shame they don't offer a 5400rpm version at a lower cost. I also think 512MB cache is overkill. My HDD only has 64MB and it's more than enough.

    $479 normal price, $14 discount, $465 final

Seems like a small discount then lol

Looking for a deal on 2.5" HDD SSD for my Tapo Hub H500…

    • HDD or SSD?

      • HDD or SSD.. forgot to put "or"

  • Is this good for NAS?

      nope

Home NAS as a media server or something, absolutely great. Something doing production type workloads absolutely not.

    • Officially, no. No vibration support, lesser write longevity, and no RAID tuning with TLER and ERC. Essentially not rated for NAS.

  • Reading the Seagate rules and it sounds like you need to purchase 2 units to be eligible?

    https://www.seagate.com/content/dam/seagate/assets/promos/st…

Each end user customer who purchase two (2) units of the same Seagate IronWolf Pro, Exos, or BarraCuda product in one single transaction from an Eligible Reseller during the Promotion Period and submits the proof of purchase online as instructed in Section 2 below, will be eligible to claim a digital Visa Gift card based on the specifications outlined in subsection 3.1 below.

    • Looking here, it has "redeemable units" per gift card as 1.

  • Why does a 20TB HDD need to be 7200RPM? People who need that kind of capacity generally don't need fast speed.

  • I used 5x4tb barracuda drives in my gen 8 microserver. That would have been over 10 years ago now. One fell out of the raid a couple of times so I replaced it with a nas drive, however I'm still using it for testing a server. (And it may have been because I had it cable tied to the case) So they seem ok…

I'm not as keen now though to use non nas drives, the wtr max with likely get enterprise grade drives as the limited hours use in this (ie not 24/7) is more of a concern.
