  • i feel like running 2x 34" stacked is better, too much horizontal space but not enough vertical space

    • +3

can also stack something on top of a 49" eg. a 34"

      • +1

yea true but could be paying a lot more

        Why go back to 34".

        Stack a 49" on a 49".

            @SS625: That's an expensive way to achieve a 55" 16:9 screen

    • +2

I feel you may not have used this size monitor beforehand.
It's not too much or too little of anything.

      • +2

It's more of a personal preference, for some its too much and for others its too little, to each to their own.

Is this the Conqueror or the Unworthy?

I have samsung 49". Never going back.

I got this monitor. It's friggen excellent for productivity.
Use windows powertoys fancyzone feature to split screen into multiple areas. Super easy and very effective way to use the entire screen

I've got the same setup. Great value monitor paired with PowerToys FancyZones.
I went from 3 x ASUS 23ish" monitors to this and wished I'd done it sooner.

I did try other zone apps as well but they all had something minor I didn't like. Fancyzones still doesn't snap Admin screens (e.g. command prompt in Admin mode) but apart from that it works so well.

The only downside to this monitor is if you are planning to use multiple sources. You can't get the full 5120X1440 on each source, e.g. my pc via HDMI is full 5120x1440 but when I switch to my laptop via USB-C it can only get 3840 x 1080.

I bought this for $1386 (wholesale) in April 2022 so this seems like a decent price. Alternatively I would have considered one of the Samsung G9 or similar but they are double the price.

Windows 11 has windows snapping as built-in functionality in the hover over state on the window 'maximise' function. So good!

    How’s this for gaming

    • This is what I would like to know.

      Currently looking to purchase either a 49" or 2 x 27".

Will be for WFH and gaming.

Also, how would this go with a 3080? Any issues considering it is Freesync (I really don't know enough about this stuff)?

      • +2

I play the occasional Steam/Xbox (gamepass for PC) and its great. That said I havn't tried anything FPS like COD/Apex Legends/Fornite/etc where framerate matters.

I've been impressed with the number of games which work in 5120x1440 out of the box. Those that don't, which aren't many it seems, I'm more than happy to have windowed at a slightly lower res which is still usually around 3840x1080.

        • Thanks. You have an AMD card, or Nvidia?

      • +1

        I have a 1070 with G-Sync and I have no issues.

        • Cheers. I have a 3080, so that's what I would like to hear.

          • @piemaniac: I'm waayyy behind in graphics cards. Thought I only purchased this pc 5yrs ago :(

@GamblorAU: @GamblorAU I had a 970 until earlier this year. Was sick of waiting to upgrade.

          • +2

@piemaniac: Have 3080 and this monitor. It's awesome. No issues. Games that are not native you can often find mod or whatever. Flawless wide-screen or hex editor etc.

FreeSync was made open source by AMD and has been supported by NVidia GPUs for 2-3 years now.

Some games don't support this out of the box (Ace Combat 7 for example, at least the last time I played it!!) but I would say at least 9/10 games I've played recently support this resolution/aspect ratio without issues. The other 1/10 either stretch the screen weirdly or only stick to a 16:9 aspect ratio in the middle of the screen. The narrow aspect ratio is completely playable still but those stretchy ones are the weird ones, even games like Alien Swarm that supports the resolution - there are weird issues in the menus with this ratio like the head of the character being cropped out of view.

Ultimately though, of those 1/10 games, there are DIY solutions for single player gaming (might trigger anticheat when doing online) to patch the EXE file or change the game settings directly via INIs to get the resolution working!

Ace Combat 7 has such DIY solutions and this monitor is just so damn perfect to play a combat flight simulator like that game!! It would be epic for racing games too for sure. I play a lot of RPG games and this is just amazing - Horizon Zero Dawn was so good on this.

  • How u buy something that cost more than $1000 when zip pay only give u $1000 to spend?

    • +1

Ebay giftcards, only need to spend $0.01 with Zip to get the coupon.

  • Would a Mac mini m1, work with this screen, specifically using the thunderbolt port to DP adapter? The specs screen don’t mention thunderbolt, which some monitors seem to mention a thunderbolt intel port.

  • Ordered. Hopefully it works out well. :D
