  • I have these cameras, bought for $750 about a year ago and find them to be great, easily paired with Google home. The best part about them is they have magnets in the base, so to "install" them outside I just found a metal beam and bang the magnets stick and then the same with the camera, click it on! Be aware the magnets are extremely strong on the base and caught my finger underneath one. The app is great super simple click and play. Quality is decent, id put it on par with my Arlo 2 Pro at 2k, however the Google Cameras have far better lossless zoom.

    • What are the ongoing costs with this cameras?

    • I really liked these cameras when I read about them, may be because I already have a few Google products like Hub and doorbell and it makes sense to remain in the same ecosystem. But then there are so many bad reviews about them online so just looking for some motivation to go with Google Security Cams. Many people say that they have moved away from Google cams to Eufy or Reolink after a year or two.

Some of the cons that I read:
      - No 2k or 4k, still doing HD
      - No continuous recording unless you wire them up
      - Subscription fee if you need more than 3 hours recording or continuous recording
      - Poor battery life, need a recharge every month or so
      - Too many false motion detection alerts
      - Google home app not very user friendly when it comes to these cams

How would you rate them on these points?

  • You can opt in Nest Aware subscription for 90$/year or you have about 2 hours of video for free…

    • 2 hours of video… that's next to useless isn't it?

  • What do people think about wireless (battery) vs wired (power over Ethernet)? Like the idea of wireless, but lazy to change battery every 6 months.

    • Maybe you could charge using a powerbank

Imagine being such a mindless serf you let Google have a live video feed of your house
