Note Taking App That Is Compatible with Apple Pencil

Hi all,

Looking for recommendation of a note taking app to introduce into my Apple eco system (I.e iPad , MacBook, iMac)

I am looking for an app that supports Apple Pencil. Converts hand written into text, allows to add checkboxes etc.

Also importantly, I’d like this app to have a login that is seperate to an “Apple account”. This is because I’d love to share (and add to) notes across devices. Some devices are my personal device, so I’d love to just login to that app to get access

This is why “Apple notes” is generally out, even though you can share individual notes

Thanks all

Microsoft OneNote. Seriously. It's free and works very well.

    ✔ Free
    ✔ Cross-device
    ✔ Supports Apple Pencil
    ✔ Handwriting to text converter
    ✔ Checkboxes
    ✔ Add multimedia
    ✔ Separate to Apple account

I personally find the Android version of OneNote to be woeful, at least on cheap/midrange Android tablets.

      • Yeah, I find that the sync is slow and it gets annoying when there's conflicts. Been using todoist for some other stuff and the sync is really good.

      • That seems common for Android experiences. Fortunately OP won't have that issue.

    • Seems interesting that a windows product appears to work best on iOS

  • Collanote is quite good for a free note taking app for ipad

  • Not sure about all your criteria, but GoodNotes is my preferred note-taking app. It has excellent integration with the Files app. Also great for marking up/signing PDFs.

  • The native Apple Notes app is now highly recommended, and has excellent handwriting recognition, auto shapes, and drawing capability.

    • I do like ‘Apple notes’, the downside is that I have a few devices that use a different apply account (I.e work mac and iPad , and personal MacBook), thereby making it hard when I switch up devices

      • Can’t you just airdrop the note?

        • I’d rather not have to constantly air drop individual notes, or remember to do so

  • Notability is also an excellent app, lots of features, cloud syncing and universal app for iPhone, iPad and Mac. It and GoodNotes tends to always get the mentions for note taking, so I would recommend comparing the features of the two.

Microsoft OneNote may be a good free alternative as mentioned but I've always found it slow and janky to work with.
