Good Value Restaurants in Melbourne

With post lock down price surges and decreased portion sizes, many of my go to restaurants which were great are now no longer.

What are your go to restaurants for good value meals and generous serving sizes?

Jump on Liven and have a look at the Food Dollars. They have deals like buy $50 credit and get an extra $30 credit for free. Had some cheap meals courtesy of Liven, recently Shujinko Ramen and 8bit Burgers.

    • buy $50 credit

      wrong week…

  • Grand tofu in Glen Waverley has been one of our favourites for years.

You might want to define your price point. I don’t mind paying a bit more if I think it is good value.

      Exactly. Good value ≠ cheap.

Personally I would recommend Philippe’s in the CBD for lunch.

It is two courses for $60 or three courses for $70 but that is, very, fine French food and a 250ml carafe of wine.

The menu is limited to a few dishes but the rotisserie chicken is terrific.

There are also a number of hotels, in Fitzroy, doing special steak nights. The Gertrude hotel does a $25 steak, on Wednesday evenings, that includes chips, a salad and a glass of wine or beer. If you go before 7 pm the happy hour wine is $5 per glass.

        • $70 for 3 courses and 250mL of wine is excellent value. Thanks for the tip, adding it to my list.

@jjjaar: If they have the Ouef a la neige with hazelnut praline go for that.

    • Just good value; don't mind paying more if quality and portion size justify it.
Eg. the all you can eat at Okami, $40pp but that allows to enjoy a wide variety of exotic dishes and you can eat the business into the red if your stomach is up for it.

What area of Melbourne are you in?

I am willing to traverse the west gate in peak hour tradie rage traffic for a good feed

Make your own food in bulk.

Add a garnish ontop and voila

  • Depends on what you're after. Hardware Lane is always a good start. But then again that depends on what you're after. The Crane Restaurant in Chinatown offers good food at great value. Mightn't be the biggest portion sizes, but if everyone orders something then boom a full table and you get filled up instantly.
