Plenty of Bird Watching by the Ocean.

      Great for local wildlife also

  • Wife and I just got back from Alaska with a cheap noname Amazon pair that didn’t do it justice, time to step up a notch, these look to have very positive reviews with big discount so bought just before midnight right now to get next day delivery for wife’s birthday tomorrow. Thanks OP

no, I would prefer an honest bright and low powered fixed focal-length pair of binoculars for the same price. 22x will be rubbish even if the optic is good without stabilisation, high powered zoom means it will be dark and offers very narrow field of view. at this price a pair of simple 8x42 or 7x 50 binoculars from the same model wont be top quality but at least usable.

    • Thanks, it's great to hear from someone who has tried these binoculars out rather than just looking at the specs and deciding they are rubbish. I've been looking for an ok pair of binoculars for a reasonable price but I'll keep waiting.

This aculon line is actually quite good value for the money from big brand name. it uses classic porror prism design which is better optically than more expensive roof prism design for the same cost by compromising on size and waterproofing, imo at this price is good move to put every cents to optical performance.

8x42 would be ideal for size and magnifying power, if you want more 10x50 or even 12x50 is fine with bigger glasses. More magnification doesn’t mean you can see further or you can see more detail, quite the opposite, you get darker image, narrower field of view, shakier view. this is due to physics, more expensive models just makes these compromises less noticeable by using better materials and adding electronic stabilisation.

        • Thanks for your comments. I was eyeing for the Nikon Prostaff 5, 12x50 from Costco for $269.98. I'm going on holidays in January to Asia and wanted to bring a binocular with me. In your opinion you would choose the Prostaff 5 over this one right?

@Lone star: I haven’t compared them side to side so I can’t say. But for 10-22x model I won’t consider. 7x or 8x ones, could be good enough. Aculon line use porror prism while prostaff uses roof prism, in theory with porror design light loss is less and it may also offers better 3D feel too, if the same quality of materials are used. while for roof prism design, as most modern binoculars use, is more compact, and easier to waterproof/frog proof. In your case if waterproof is a requirement that will be easy choice, if not, for size, with 50mm glasses size probably would not matter, optical quality though, you have to compare them to know as a cheaper pair of 7x50 porror binoculars could be well better optically than more expensive roof counterparts.

For this price range some other less famous brands often offer better value, as they are all made in China no matter which brand. Well it all depends on the sale which comes along I guess.

@Lone star: Although im a huge costco fan, there have been better deals.

The Bushnell Legend deal last week was amazing. You should have jumped on that.

You could also get the Monarch 5 for high 200s/low 300s every so often, which are a step or 2 above the Prostaff 5.

If you have time to wait for a deal, there are ones that pop up every so often for binoculars, but January is cutting it fine. That being said, the prostaff 5 are pretty decent

        • Good advice here.

Can this spot camels at the beach? You know, the toe part 🤣

  • Just a warning to all. I bought this about 3 months ago.
When I received it, one of the lens had white paint flecks in between the glass layers.
Sent it back, then got a new set, that was also contaminated.
It seems Nikon have dropped quality from this lineup.

They are still good and effective, but cheap binos
