  • Garmin VS this one. Any recommendations?

  • Mine freezes up a few minutes into the drive and stops recording

Try a new high endurance card.

        I’ll give it a go!

  • How much generally does this front and rear camera installation cost by mechanic?

    • +1

      You'd want an auto electrician.

Not answering your question, but we installed it ourselves without hardwiring and it was easy on our 2 cars (medium SUV and 4WD). I did the easy front bit and the husband did the back hatch. He didn't even watch any YouTube video himself and only relied on what I relayed to him.

    • $250 for Plus Duo and Cellink battery install by auto elec for me. Had other quotes of $280, $330.

      • Thanks mate. Do we need separate battery for this cam? I am planning to install on merc gle250d

        • No battery required.

I opted to put one in to use for parking mode. Using the car's battery for parking mode is possible with a hardwire kit but troublesome, particularly models with auto stop/start.

          • @rokoz: Where do you store your battery? (asking for the hotter days in Aus)

            • +1

@Unorthodox: Behind the glovebox. Common spot is under seats but i didnt have enough clearance there.

          • @rokoz: If you use a cellink battery, do you still need the viofo hardwire kit?

            • @sirspiff: Yes, the HK3 replaces the supplied USB>12v cig socket cable that comes with the camera. It has the extra wire required for parking mode.

              Camera>HK3>Cellink output

The Cellink has it's own input cable that handles the connection to the fuse panel.

A generic hardwire kit with the same USB type as the HK3 should also work as the regulation device is redundant in this scenario.

      • Which Cellink did you go with (any deals on them?)

        • Cellink NEO 6 on eBay from here.

On sale now for $267, but only 1 left.

          • @rokoz: I'll need to be quicker next time!

Is it normal with dashcams to spend spend more on the battery than the camera system itself?

            • @render: I'd guess most people buying these are spending more on the dashcam.

Having only one manufacturer of these - Egen - wouldn't help the price.

    • Watch the videos on this previous post. You will need the hardware kit that's tagged in the post.

  • Any one else have overheating issues with these? Have a a129 duo that I got refunded because it boot looped when it got warm so I'm hesitant to buy another if they just aren't cut out for the Australian summer.

    • good question….I'm poised to buy one but would be good to have this confirmed. I'm surprised they refunded rather than replaced, implies its a known issue

      • It was shipped to them and back and concluded 'not faulty'. I spent over a year contesting it because I reported it faulty during summer and by the time I had finished with their troubleshooting it was no longer summer and had to contest it the following summer and argue going through consumer affairs. Both Viofo and the seller were very stubborn.

        • thanks…that's enough for me to stay clear.
Need to research what are reliable options for Australian summer, when car interiors can get to 70C, especially mounted up high

    • Mine shuts down when it hits around 25-27C outside with some direct sunlight (hardwired with parking mode on).

When I didn't have it hardwired, no issues that I noticed as it would just re-start.

      • Thanks for your reply. Was going to give them another try but I think ill go elsewhere. (Mine is hardwired)
