I ordered this during prime day, with a view to replacing my a129 Duo.

Still haven't gotten around to it because the rear camera and cable are incompatible, as is my GPS module.

Bit of a bummer that it couldn't have been a swap and go affair …

    • +1

That is a bummer. Is it a different plug? Could get an adaptor. Or just refuses to work?

      • It just doesn't work despite it being the same cable plug - you'll need to undo and rewire the whole setup.

        • This. It's a completely different system using the plug - at least on the front end. I thought this was an idiotic idea, as I imagine the upgrade market would be a reasonable size, but having to re-wire the rear cable is just a pain.

Apparently, the newer GPS modules are compatible. I must have an older one.

Fortunately, trying to plug the new front camera in didn't damage any of the existing hardware.

        • so youre saying that you cant even reuse the cable? i wouldve thought cable will be the same so u can just swap out the rear and front cams while keeping the wiring.

    • A129 Pro Duo is a drop in replacement, just did one myself.

  • +1

I accidentaly ordered a Viofo a129 plus with a internal camera and bought the rear camera seperately and found out that i can only connect either rear or the internal. Now the internal camera is sitting idle. :(

    • +8

I bought mine thru Ali or BG last year. My rear camera was dark and indecipherable. I contacted them, sent footage, so they sent me a full replacement. I received it, and the rear camera still did the same thing. Though and behold, there is a piece of dark film over the lens. LOL
Anyway, the original camera started playing up and not recording, despite me replacing the Samsung Evo Security card twice, and formatting in the device. So far the replacement is okay.

    • +1

      Try and sell it?

      • +1

        That's my next step.

      • I won't risk selling a dodgy product. Maybe needs a reset?

        • I was replying to akula who has an idle internal camera.

  • Neverthless a good cam.

    Hardwire Kit $28.99
    Q. Is it easy to install?
    A. If you are asking this question, its best to have a qualified Auto Electrician install it for you.

    • +4

Or ask a handy mate of yours and give him a 6-pack.. that is what I did and it worked well. Took about 45 min to do and it was his first time to install one but he knew a bit about cars, fuses and whatnot. There is helpful videos on youtube.

    • +12

True OzBargainers wouldn't need to get an electrician install these hardwire kits.
It's easy enough to diy as long as you do some researchs.

      • Wow, that makes things so much easier, especially using Fuse Taps.
I have today received my Hard wiring kit, and I will order the fuse taps. Here is a copy of my circuit Diagram for the Fuse Box for my Hyundai I30, plus this Video gives a better breakdown. Which would be the best locations to plug the Red (Battery) and Yellow(Acc) wires?

        • It varies from car to car. I used Cigarette Ligher and Audio myself.
You'll need a multimeter. Use fuse taps to connect the yellow wire to a fuse that is on when your car is on and red wire to another fuse that is on at all time.
Also make sure you order the correct fuse taps.

    • +2

Dash cams are pretty handy even without this kit.

      • +7

Much rather have that peace of mind. It did pay off as someone reversed into me while I was parked and drove off. Got a nice view of the number plate and got it all sorted. Saved me $3k in repairs.

        • hey mate good to hear, may I ask did you provide the footage to your insurance company or to the police?

Would appreciate learning more about the process

    • +1

      A. If you are asking this question, its best to have a qualified Auto Electrician install it for you.

What an idiotic response to a perfectly fine - if not from a place of laziness - question.

      • Just covering my butt for posting the kit. I will check out the YT links above. I do have a 'Novated LEase'/Company car, so I have to be careful.

    • +2

Last pic says connect black wire to any mental in the car.
Does this mean bonus function is subduing my 2 year old’s tantrum during long drives?

    • +1

I got zero experience and knowledge but a few YouTube videos later and a visit to the viofo/dashcam forums.

I Installed it in a day. Easy. Just need to buy tap a fuse and a big enough screw to go in a hole under glove box and act as a ground point

  • Stop procrastinating and buy it.

    • +3

      Are you the seller?

  • Does parking mode actually work for this? Which model was the one that had problems in parking mode?

    • +1

Yes, this is the one that doesn't have buffered parking mode. It has the other two parking modes still.

      • Yes it has motion detection and impact detection. The motion detection is triggered by anyone or thing that moves Infront of the car and records for 90 seconds. I think you can also set it to record at a set bit rate. This is a form of continuous recording. No idea if the impact detection works.

  • Does this have to be hard wired or can it be used without hard wiring?

    • either

      • Thanks mate!

    • +1

Plug it into car's cigarette lighter and you are good to go. Recording will be only when a car is on, obviously.

    • Make sure you check if your car keeps the cig lighter powered if you use that option. I have a VW Caddy and its permanently powered. So in 2-3 days the battery goes flat.

  • I added this cam and the hard wire kit to my cart, $228.98, click on the check out button, and it wants to charge me $268.98, for no reason? theres no freight charge, no other clue as to the $40 increase on checkout. Any one else getting the same?

I just tried again with just the camera, seems to be wanting to charge me the full price on check out, rather than the lightning deal price?

    • Do you have prime?

    • It is because it is already all claimed (lightning deal). Have to join wait list.

      • 82% Claimed

        • Was 100% at 50, they released more. I have just bought now too from new release.

      • Still showing about 73% claimed, and doesn't really explain why it shows as the lightning deal price when added to card?

  • Any recommended installation in Sydney?

    • +2

Try airtasker there are ppl there who can install the dash cam but check their reviews.

      • Cheers, what keyword should I be searching for? Have no clue when it comes to cars

        • You will have to make a listing for "Dashcam Installation", then wait for offers, choose the one with best reviews and price, etc.

    • +1

Jimmy from that hatdashcamguy . He did a good job, comes to you and reasonable rate.

      • +1

How much, if you don't mind advising what you were charged.

    • Bankstown Sound & Marine did my Blackvue. If any issues arise you can bring it back to them and they can check it for free

Expect around 200-250 for professional installation

  • Thanks! me estimate delivery is next week is 29 sep

  • -1

    They've all be claimed. Expired.

    • -1

      Nope, 82% claimed.

  • Bought one a while back, didn't notice for a good few months (so was out of warranty) that the rear camera had stopped working.
No warning given except recordings missing from rear camera.
Solution by vifo is to buy a new rear cable and see if that fixes it… Its proprietary (apparently) and no other cable will work, so I haven't bothered.
    A bit disappointing

  • Bought a a129 gps like 4 years ago, still not installed yet…… hmmm is it really worth it peeps?

  • Does this still have no buffering parking mode or did they fix it with a new version ?

  • +1

Got it for $100 if i remember correctly from a previous Amazon deal
Video Quality is great, however it doesnt auto turn on each time the car starts so i have to manually turn it on.

    • Weird, it should

    • Mine is the same, sometimes it's auto and sometimes not, haven't been able to find a fix yet

      • I am planning to hardwire and see if that fixes it, never got the chance to order the plugs, need to google the name of them first

I think both are same model but cheaper on KOGAN

    • That was a crazy good price though. Hasn't really come close since.

  • I ordered last month and have only installed the front one so far . It’s a 4K version , the camera turns off after Few seconds , is it okay ? Did I miss something on the settings menu ? Does it stay on without going off to sleep mode or has it gone to sleep mode for some reason ? Screen off etc. the record butting seems to be on all the times though . I haven’t connected the rear one yet
    Thanks for your help

    • +1

Probably just set to screen saver / turn off screen after X minutes

      • Thank you

    • +1

That sounds like screen saver mode. The camera is working as long as the Record button is solid red.

      • Thank you

  • Bought a couple months back from somewhere on eBay with the hardwiring kit and polarised filter for ~$260 all up from memory. Partner had a new car and originally was going to get her a Blackvue like I have in my car but after seeing a few reviews (written & video) it seems these do pretty much as well as a blackvue if not better.
Easy to install but the cables are a little thicker than the Blackvue so a bit more effort tucking them under panels and stuff.
