Google Store Now Price Matches 5 Australian Retailers

2134

After seeing this thread, I thought it was worth reminding OzBargainers (especially with Black Friday coming) that you can request a price match at the Google Store.

Price matches are available after you make your Google Store purchase, so if you find a better deal during the standard return window, we’ll refund the difference.

Refunds can be processed as soon as your product ships.

The following conditions apply:

  • Up to 2 refunds per customer per model.
  • You must make your request within the standard return period.
  • Online pricing must be in the same currency as the currency used to purchase the qualifying product on Google Store.
  • The advertised price must be for the same model (same color and memory, if applicable).
  • The advertised price must still be in effect when the adjustment is requested (if Google Store is out of stock, no rain checks apply).
  • You must provide a live, publicly accessible link to the promo or webpage that verifies the price. PDFs, screenshots, pictures, or individual price quotes are not accepted.
  • For phones, price match is available for Unlocked models only. We’re unable to match pricing for carrier models.
  • Excludes: Contract mobile phones or financing deals; special daily or hourly deals; pre-order or trade-in offers; wholesale, special business, members-only, or educational pricing; mail-in, coupon, or gift card offers; pricing errors; product bundles or items at no charge; bundled services or support; clearance, open box, refurbished, or pre-owned items; and products shipped or sold by third-party sellers on competitor’s website.
  • If we suspect fraud or unauthorized reseller activity, Google reserves the right to decline a price match.

They price match with Bunnings, Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks and The Good Guys.

What qualifies under our price protection policy?
If you make a purchase on Google Store and the Google Store price decreases within the standard return period, you may be eligible for a partial refund to match the lower price. The following conditions apply:

You must make your request within the standard return period.
If a lower price is the result of a promotion on Google Store and eligibility requirements are indicated in that promotion’s terms and conditions, you must meet all of them prior to making a price protection claim. Promotion terms and conditions are typically found at the bottom of the Google Store page.
If you received a promotional price on your original purchase, price protection doesn't apply for any Google Store promotion launched subsequent to your purchase.
Protection doesn't apply to price changes on refurbished products.

    Price matches are not bargains.

    This belongs in the forums…

The fact that in a few minutes it already has 25+ up votes and multiple comments would suggest that "Read the posting rules"
is not necessary in this situation. Stand down from red alert jv!!

      • -3

        reposts like news.com.au?

    • +2

It can be, if the original deal was a bargain and by using Google you get extra credits back like 10% if you have a Google one plan.

      • +8

if the original deal was a bargain

No it wasn't, it was a price match policy

Might as well post every price match policy as a 'bargain' then…

    • +12

lol, while people argue about "deals vs. forums", I just opened a ticket with Google with a potential to save $60-$90.

      Thanks OP :D

Can they price match turkey premium YouTube?

    • You wish…..

    • +3

If you could pull that price match off you would achieve the rank of Zen Master OzBargainer.

      India is cheaper.

      • +2

Youtube revanced is even cheaper if you haven't checked it out.

        • I have iPhone, so no Vanced mate. Yes on my laptops I have u origin Adblock. Plus I listen to YouTube music, which is great when the phone screen is off.

          • @Griffindinho: If you can jailbreak you phone there are equivalent free options.

            • @I like freestuff: No need to jailbreak, if you use altserver on a home pc and altstore on your phone, then you can sideload cracked versions of youtube app, my personal favourite is uYouPlus by Qnblackcat on github, has built in adblock, allows background playback, picture in picture, and also integrates other tools like iSponsorBlock and Return Youtube Dislike

              • @ConspiracyCat: Yeah but I’m always forgetting to refresh the 7 day duration even with the reminders. Now I don’t have to do the 7day thing anymore.

Thanks for this. I want to buy the Fitbit Charge 5 which is currently selling for $269.95 on the Google Store.
At all the other major retailers JB HiFi, Officeworks etc it's selling for $169. I would prefer they to request a price match rather than buy it and ask for a refund.
I want to buy it from the Google Store as i have $300m store credit. But when I click on the "Requesting a price adjustment" it asks for the "Order number" so it's still expecting you to buy the item first from the Google Store then request a refund. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks.

    • +6

"as i have $300m store credit" whoops sorry, i mean $300 not $300 million.

    • +6

Jeez! $300 million dollars in store credit… What have you been buying? 🤪

      • -1

        What have you been buying?

        Deliveroo vouchers…

    • +1

I put in 00000 as the order number, it accepted my message.
Don't know if they will respond though.

    • +6

Price matches are a joke for google. They make the process so difficult. They also try anyway possible to deny it, despite there being no good reason to. I had to escalate multiple times to get them to honour a price match. You will wait an inordinate amount of time to get a response in the chat box.

I would not bother. However, like you, the only reason I persisted was I had an expiring Google Store voucher.

      • How long did it take for you to get a refund from when you initially requested?

        • From when they agreed to do it? Like 3 days. But that was after like 3 weeks of arguing with people who it seems get paid on how many claims they deny.

          • @greennick: That's painful. I've got the refund confirmation 2 days after ordering and getting on the chat.

            • @brawndo: I would hope my experience isn't typical, but it was enough to turn me off trying again.

  • +2

Can anyone confirm if you still get the Google black Friday credit? (e.g. $300)

    • Interested in finding out about this too!

      • I've messaged their price adjustment for an answer. HODL

        • This will be a great deal if they do, please update us

          • +4

@Phesto: Just had a chat and yes they will honour the black friday credit on top of the difference so that would be a steal!

            • @tms846: So do we only have to pay reduced price? Pixel 7 at 837AUD by Office Works, or do we have to pay 1000AUD and get refund on 163AUD.
And still get 250 AUD store credits for Black Friday deal?

              • +4

@udarabibile94: My understanding is you pay the full price on Google Store and then claim the difference through a 'price-match refund'.

            • @tms846: did you use some sort of live chat service?

            • +2

@tms846: can confirm this is true. I got my Pixel 7 pro on 31 Oct, while google won't price match, this is what they said in the reply email to me: "I certainly understand your concern regarding the price match and the Black Friday deal. I have checked with the resources and it turns out that the order with the order ID #[Order number] is not eligible for a price match. Since the Black Friday promotion is regarding store credits we do not have any option to offer price protection here because the prices are the same on the Google store website.

Please be informed that the order which is within the standard return window is considered eligible for the price match or price protection refund. Please accept my sincere apologies here for this.

However, I would suggest you to return the device for a full refund and meanwhile place the new Pixel 7 pro from the Google store so that you will be eligible for both price match and the Google store credits promotion. "

              • @jayjays401:

However, I would suggest you to return the device for a full refund

But you're outside of the 15-day window of receiving it. How can you return it?

          • @Phesto: Been answered already below but can confirm they will honour the price match + Black Friday credit.

    • +1

@ffcc If you're referring to the Pixel 7 Pro then it states that Buy Pixel 7 Pro and get a gift of A$300 in Google Store credit towards your next purchase.^
      So I'm gunna say confirmed!

      • I am not sure about the confirmation. I just read the post from OP again. Excludes section from the post has "Gift card offers" so I am guessing they may reject our refund request, But I am keen to know about this. I am planning to buy pixel 7, so if anybody has a confirmation, please post it here.
        Thank you.

    • Im hoping so!

  • +1

Interesting, they are matching Amazon in the US but not here…

  • +2

Why would you do this? It’s not like Alphabet Inc. is known for their amazing customer service or after sales support. They are known for doing the bare minimum required and sunsetting countless services/devices creating an environment of unease and uncertainty.

    • +4

Not sure what you're basing your comment on. In Australia, at least, I've had nothing but great customer service from the Google Store.

      • While their shipping is great, their warranty handling is a total disgrace.

        • -1

Do you mean their process of requiring you to buy a new unit before you send off yours for assessment and refund?

          • +1

@ffcc: I have so far been unable to get them to process my warranty claim on the 10m nest outdoor charger/cable. Dozens of calls and mails all I get is a trouble shooting process (which they run you through ever single time again). Part of the trouble shooting is to call out an electrician on own costs.
They offer to send me a 1m cable instead multiple times (no thanks, I need 10m). They claim they can't send another 10m as it's out of stock, but it's stocked on their website.
They push the request around departments too. Google store can't help as they think it's a nest matter. Nest won't help as they think it's a store matter.
They also claim there's no one year warranty (had to send the warranty leaflet as proof). Contact on warranty leaflet not open during opening times.
A nest cam later ceased working (also ordered on Google store), same story, so I gave up on that after just a few attempts.
Service is US based, won't put things in writing and will insist on calls. Will not call back, or if they do they might call you at 2am.
I ended up just accepting defeat.
Worst warranty experience I've ever had.
They have 1.2 stars on Trustpilot, 1.3 stars on productreview.

I have pretty much the whole google eco system at home, am a nest subscriber, have Google One.

        • They replaced my google doorbell for free when I broke the lens.

With me at least, they did make me jump through some hoops but they did right by me (that said if they didnt I wouldn't have bought anymore google devices like the pixels I just bought)

      • Likewise. Very easy to deal with a faulty pixel stand

    • Do you have a bad experience you're referring to? Or is this repeating something you've read online?

Been buying with Google since the pixel one. Had 3 warranty returns for battery depletion. Was sent a refurbished unit each time with no hassles after some basic troubleshooting.

I've also used several devices for 5 to 6 years after their release date for my partner/kids/spare phones and they all work fine.

  • +2

So theoretically you can buy a Pixel for the bonus $250/$300 credit, plus the 10% back with Google credit… And then get it price matched at with the difference refunded?

    Win

    • What's the 10%?

      • Google One perk.

    • Confirmed you can stack the price match from original price?

    • First two 100% (as I did) but I dont know about the difference.

  • -5

LOL, price match at Alphabet? like a warranty on HN ?

  • -6

Price match policy isn't a deal… belongs In the forum's

  • +2

If they want it to be a deal, they should just price their items competitively to begin with.

  • +2

So with JB Hi-Fi currently running a deal on the Pixel 7's, does this mean we can just go get the phone from Google, get the $250 voucher and then immediately apply for a price match? and get the difference refunded?

  • Not sure how this can be a deal? Buying from retail stores is much better than Google store because warranties are processed through the retailer and it's usually convenient. You're dealing with a staff in person.

    • +3

I think you're right, there's no future in this online retail thing.

      • I think you're not wrong about that. 100% straight on point. I've dealt with warranties online and it takes ages to process

        • Sometimes its quick, sometimes its slow. Just like with a bricks and mortar retailer, sometimes its great, other times you're lodging a complaint with the office of fair trading or the ACCC to try get your warranty issue resolved because the retailer doesn't believe in consumer law because somebody touched him in a bad place 50 years ago.

          • +1

@Tardvark: everytime I've walked up to Bunnings returns desk, I've just said 'not suitable' - they pick up the item, scan it, apply the refund, and ask me to scan my credit card to refund it to

I've usually shown them my receipt - so handy to keep those for any potential returns

    • +1

Not sure how this can be a deal? You buy something from Google, then find out it's cheaper elsewhere,
then you get money back from something that you already thought was a good deal. Seems like a good deal to me, along with 188+ upvotes.
Also not everyone wants to or can go into a store, people with disabilities, parents of young children the list goes on.
I buy directly from Google regularly, if I have an issue, I call them then they ring me back within a few minutes.
You're dealing with a staff in person. I'm dealing with a staff at home, I don't have to make a trip to the store.
Just because it's not preferable to you, doesn't mean it deserves a neg vote.

  • Geezus this had me thinking Google had opened an Amazon-like online store and I’m like ‘how the hell didn’t I know about this!?!?’ 😹

Could you imagine? If Google did this, they could seriously compete with Amazon with all the search data they have on us all! Lol Amazon would be history within ~10 years.

  • +1

Anyone know if you can price match when using google credit to purchase?

    • +1

      Confirmed this works

      • Source please?

So using store credit I can pay $0 for say the nest hub+2 points, then price match, as well as getting 10% back with google 2tb?

  • In the US Google are also offering tradeins. People are virtually upgrading for free from the pixel 6 with the $100 off BF discount on top of access to 'preferred care' we don't get close to any of that here

  • I've taken the punt on pixel 7 pro. Worst case I'll return it

  • Does anyone know how long Google price match usually takes to come back with a response? Or can anyone confirm when they hear back about the Pixel 7 Pro price match. I submitted my claim early on the 21st; nothing yet…

    • The email I got was that it would take 48 hours for an update.

      • +1

Oh, you got an email. I got nothing. Maybe I'll wait till tomorrow, then re-submit if still nothing. Thanks.

My bad. I just looked again. The email must've got marked as read before I actually read it. Fingers crossed for good news by tomorrow, then!

        • Fyi I used office works as source. Let's see if it works 😁

        • +1

Keen to know if you have any updates

          • @brawndo: Keen to know too, I'm in the same boat. I asked them about price match before I put in the order and she said I qualified, so I ordered. I've got the $300 credit but nothing on the price difference refund yet.

      • +1

Just updating: ~56h after submitting claim; nothing yet.

        • I wonder if we have to submit the request after dispatch as technically that would be when the standard return window starts?

          • @brawndo: It hasn't been dispatcjed after 56 hours? That doesn't seem right because if the sale is over because of their delay, that seems unfair.

            • @YellowKnight: Yeah, that wouldn't be right. But who knows what they'll pull. Hopefully just a matter of waiting until the phones ship:

Refunds can be processed as soon as your product ships.

          • +5

@brawndo: Hmm, I submitted the claim immediately. Surely they should reply in some way, in any case. My phone actually arrived yesterday, ~30h after ordering!
