The Good Guys StoreCash

Hi all! Quick rant here.

So TGG are running a promotion (or is it a long term thing? I'm not sure) where if you buy more than $xxxx you get $xx store credit. Here's the promo page: https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/storecash#

Seems ok, right? Well, how long would a typical reasonable customer expect the store credit to last for, after making their initial purchase? As it turns out, store credit expires after 10 days. That's 10 DAYS. Yup, it's hidden in the FAQ.

It takes up to 2 weeks for you to get the StoreCash credited to your digital wallet, so you've got to keep an eye out for that, then you get 10 days to use it.

Yeah, I got caught out by that because I went for the promo without being diligent enough to read through all the FAQ (bad me, I know).

I wonder how many people who get StoreCash are aware of tiny window of opportunity to use it.

Whomever thought of this marketing thing needs to be given a right ol backhand and sent back to marketing school.
Though I suppose to be fair it's basically just a slight re-work (and over-complication) of the concierge credit scheme, which also had a very limited time use after being issued.

As for hidden..yes and no I suppose, it's clearly available without digging too far - but maybe they could have just put a few lines in a paragraph in small text at bottom.
They got so much text going on in the main part of the marketing that even if they did advertise the 10 day expiry where would they even put it that it wouldnt also get lost when glancing over the material?

    • IMO, marketing is all about backhanding… backhanding the customer while they throw money your way!

      • more like tgg turkey slapping the customer with this abortion of a sales gimmick

  • Also annoyed that you need to have the order collected/delivered by a certain date to get storecash. The whole thing was so convoluted I abandoned the OzB way and bought at Bing Lee instead

    • Exactly. Tried ordering an iphone 14 pro for the store cash and that deadline came and went. BS.

    • Also annoyed that you need to have the order collected/delivered by a certain date to get storecash

an order of mine is delayed till after the current 30th Nov deadline, so I got on their live chat and got a screenshot of them saying they would apply it once delivered, all I had to do was message them again
Will see if that actually happens

  • This happened to me, bought a TV for my mum was not the cheapest from TGG but same promo was on last year and I received $80 store credit, which I assume would work like a gift card, but how wrong was I! Received the email a few days later and said congrats here your $80 credit but you have 10 days to spend! Had to rush to TGG and obvs no other deals were on (because they know everyone has store credit they have to use!) so was forced to pay $140 for a nutrabullet which is about RRP anyway and I had a perfectly good nutrabullet so I didn’t really win.. first time getting something for free and I felt like I was cheated LOL
    Never again!

  • another marketing ploy, since the pay less pay cash isn't around anymore.

The concierge credit scheme makes no sense, you get random sms with 48hrs to buy something. I have no idea if the credit for your purchase/s are still working or why your still receving them.

    • fyi if you dont have use for GG concierge you can sell on classifieds here - I used to sell $20 for $10.
Not great, but better than getting zero value out of it, and helped to offset the extended warranty for my dryer lol

      • extended warranty

        Oh nononono

        • It’s ok I got it at cost, friends with franchisee🙃

    • Concierge is a scam, they keep turning off my "marketing" options, yet I'm still receiving junk mail and 0 credits. I just wait for a year to go by and last time they sent me $60 to use on 1 go. Does it need to be by sms? Think I've only got email on.

  • It is so confusing. They advertised “Get an extra $80 store cash on Dyson vacuum” a few weeks ago.
So my understanding is that i would get the store cash promo of $70 + an extra $80. But no, it was just $80.

The wording “extra” for me was misleading. Or maybe it’s just my lack of understanding of English language?!

  • Their bonus credit offers are more unreliable than any cashrewards program. Not sure if storecash has changed things but you have no confirmation if you actually met the criteria and will get the store credit, you wait for the x date they say that credits will be paid out and then when you don't you try Good Guys support who never get back to you.

  • yeah this is pretty much a scam! I never received a sms, email or anything on my wallet app but apparently it was already processed.
Just a waste of time and effort.

  • I got caught out with this for my last purchase with them. I made the assumption that I would have a reasonable amount of time to spend the credit but when I went to use it I realised (too late) that I only had 6 days to actually use it.

They have terrible reviews because of it but I probably didn't look up the store reviews since I had shopped with them so many times and used to trust the company..

    • is it 6 days? i thought 10 days

  • Got caught out. Lost $70…where can I 1 star them…

  • can store cash be used to pay for their home services?
