Buying a Macbook Pro during Black Friday

Hey guys,

I know nobody has a crystal ball but do we anticipate there to be sales on the m1 or m2 macbook pros?

I could potentially look at an air but I don't know whether I'd end up regretting it.

Would really like to spend less than $1.5k

Also is the education store (i don't know what this is, but have read about it) cheaper than buying through Amazon or Officeworks if a sale comes up?

My partner is studying and I want to buy her this for Christmas.

The best advice is to get it when you need it. Don’t get it when you don’t. Just note that a refresh model of MacBook Pro 14/16 is coming soon - within next 3 months.

Prices are quite similar everywhere, Apple store gives you gift card, while Officeworks TGG jbhifi could each other match the prices.

Otherwise now is a good time to buy MacBook Air M1/M2.

    Wrong… Amazon do…

  • You won't find anything but an old, poverty pack Pro with a $1500 budget. By that, I mean 8/256GB at best, which will feel restrictive out of the box, and will only get worse over time. You should look at M1 Air. M2 Air if your budget can stretch it, but even black friday sales won't get it below $1500. This was about as good as you can hope for.

Yes, If you make an account on student edge/myunidays (I think it works on both) they redirect you to the apple education store portal.
You get Macbooks at around 10% off on there..

Alternatively, you can check out Jb/Ow right now. They also have a sale going on at the moment (almost the same discounts that you’ll get on Apple education store).

Plus, It’s possible to get egift cards at a discounted rate to make purchases from any of these sites ^^.
Having said that, you still wouldn’t get what you are looking for under $1.5k. For that you’ll have to compromise and maybe get an older model.
    Good luck.

  • Op sent pm

  • Just bought a MBA M1 from JB for 1297 price matched against OW
The reason I didn’t go with apple was, yes they give you a gift card of $240
Which would equal 1259 .. if I could find something to spend the GC on.

I also needed AirPods gen 2 they were on sale for 175 with jb
Where as at apple had them for $219

Which would have had me spending $1499 with $20 gc credit left over

Where as with jb I spent $1472

Feel free to let me know if I did my maths wrong / coild have done this better

    • can use the gift card for Netflix, etc, iCloud

    • Typing from my M2 Air few days old for $1100 lol

      • Wow that is cheap considering they are selling for $1900.

        • yeah got lucky

    Apple Air M2 8gb/256gb

    Apple Price: $1899
    JB HiFi price: $1709

Buy 17 $100 TCN cards from Coles on sale at the moment (IF YOU CAN FIND ANY) to use at JB HiFi. Currently selling for 15% off this week.

    (1700x .85) + 9 = $1454

I just got mine from OWS at $2537, 14' MBP. I didn't go through BF sale as it's still more expensive with the gift card bonus.

  • Any regular Apple discounts? Want to get wife MacBook Air M2, 16GB / 512GB - $2500 is kinda painful.

  • Don't forget the AOC store here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/641911

    Cheaper than regular edu store.

I've purchase plenty through the edu and AOC stores and have never once had my student ID requested (although I am actually a student).

Stacking AOC with 10% gift cards works to be cheaper than other available options based on my calculations.

I'm also looking at buying a MB Pro, and have been underwhelmed by the offers this year. Not only have sales generally been worse, but recurring ones (such as Apple's promo, and cashreward's apple promo) have been more restricted compared to last year. Sign of the times I guess.
