Wish tech companies would stop the trend of annual releases.
I'd rather wait 2-3 years for a bigger upgrade.

    • +1

So why don't you wait 2-3 years for an upgrade then? What is the benefit of GoPro withholding their new devices?

If anything I would assume longer waits means higher prices and nothing for the customer to gain.

      • +3

I don't buy them every year.
Its about tech/gaming companies spending less time and money trying to develop and market a product every year.

2-3 years is a good balance between regular releases and providing enough time for proper improvements and testing of products.
Instead, we get stuff like overheating, firmware issues, battery life issues etc (I'm talking about tech in general, not the gp11)

Sorry for wanting better from tech.

        • Bad tech products happen regardless of time spent working on them, its not relevant. Case in point: DJI Action 1 and DJI Action 2 had two years between them, but the Action 2 overheats and has unfinished firmware etc, yet the Gopro does laps around the device in terms of thermals and other things.

The Gopro 11 has a heap of great improvements compared to the GoPro 10 so it seems like you just aren't technical enough to understand the difference, in which case just buy whatever gopro suits you.

The issue is you are making an assumption that longer releases schedules means a better product when the reality is that it simply comes down to the company being a good company.

What you are failing to understand is that a company working on a product for 1 year for release in 2022 needs to compete with other companies releasing in 2022 no matter how long they've worked on it.

If the Gopro yearly release method wasn't working, just like Samsung and others, then we would have plenty of other companies who do work on products for 2-3 years releasing superior products… but this doesn't happen, its either equal or worse.

          • @samfisher5986: Nice work attempting to take personal jabs.
I can grasp the technological differences.
I'm not the one trying to use some of the first cameras GP made as an example for their modern day capabilities.

Also I never said the 10-11 didn't have good improvements.
All I said was it could be better for consumers if they took their time and worked on a more polished product.

So now that you've tried to put words into my mouth and attempted to take personal jabs, you can take your degree in google expertise and bugger off.
I'm not going to continue with someone so anti-consumer.

              @ihuntbargains:

All I said was it could be better for consumers if they took their time and worked on a more polished product.

Which as I explained from clear evidence of existing devices that are released, that is not correct.

So you should just buy the device you want, when you can afford it, don't worry if a company releases a new product in the meantime.

    • No one's forcing you to buy a new device every year.

    • +1

Might as well wait for another 12-13 years for gigantic humongous upgrade.

    • Isn't that how capitalism supposed to work? An evergrowing beast devouring itself.

    • +2

Keep in mind that in this sector GoPro alone don't necessarily drive the update cycle entirely.

Manufacturer of parts like CCD's, batteries, SOC packages etc have a pretty fast update cycle on the OEM end, so unless GoPro want to do a lifetime buy to sustain manufacturing out to a few years just to keep the same model and specs at some point a regular update cycle makes sense to ensure that they can de-risk component obsolescence and availability.

Also, if you employ engineers you need to keep them working on something, and in terms of the performance of the cameras they're squeezing about all they can out of each generation in terms of resolution, frame rate, stabilising processing and compression so it's not as though there's plenty of new features that can be implemented just through a firmware update.

Go Pro 11 by itself is $545.96.

  • +1

Will this get cheaper later in the week is the question. 🤔

    • +1

I had the same thought, but it was an item on the Christmas list and given that it's already cheaper than the previous deal I thought I'd go for it rather than risk it selling out.

I'd be surprised if it gets cheaper from GoPro. Maybe a Prime deal on import, but this seems like a good price compared to the RRP.

  • Wow Go Pro 11 already.

  • How do you get it for $545.96? it's $629 or $709

    • Check out i guess

  • Can't get it anywhere near OP's price - what am I doing wrong?

Edit: Price drops once you add it to your cart and checkout

  • If you already have a GoPro membership, all accessories are an additional 15% off. Min. $200 to get free delivery.

So for example, the light mod is AU$84.95 full price. Member's price - 15% off makes it AU$50.54, or 40% off RRP. Discounts vary per product.

Has anyone received their go pro from GoPro website? I’ve heard horror stories about people receiving an empty box and GoPro said chase it up with ups.

    • I think you asked this in one of the last deals also… Something like that is probably due to a UPS person stealing it out of the box, or the person ordering it trying to pull a dodgy, the shipping weight would be a give away and that would indicate if the box was actually posted empty or if the camera was stolen in transit.. …

But yes, Gopro are a pain to deal with if there are any issues, it's wise to purchase with Paypal so you can just lodge a Paypal claim if there's any issues….

Also… My Gopro last year was shipped in a box with security tape, the tape has printed on it something like "If tape is damaged, pealed, or cut, inspect contents before accepting"… So yeh, if the box has been opened in transit, don't accept it

They listed the Gopro11 for $599 and the bundle for $629 for months, now they increase the listing price and offering a 15% Black Friday discount…

    • +1

Haha yes also noticed this. So a ~4% discount bundle compared to yesterdays price. By itself is a 11% discount, that didnt get jacked as much.

  • +1

Stacks with the UNiDAYS 3% student discount. Get the discount code via the UNiDAYS app. Price comes down to $597.64.

    • What do you have to do to get the Unidays account? I started but then it was asking for Course details. Is it verified to an extent? My wife works for a school!

  • +1

Never buy from them again. I ordered the 11, they sent me the 10. After 4 weeks of contacting them, they told me to return it and they refund for the GoPro 10!!!!!
    Worst experience ever. Trash.

Currently doing the "hack" to avoid paying the $69 subscription fee https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12683773/redir

Will report back if I'm successful.

    • how did that go? were you able to get it through?

      • +2

Mine has shipped and have the tracking info so the hack is all but confirmed working :) Haven't been charged for the subscription.

No doubt if enough peeps do it that they'll change their process.

      • +2

Mine just arrived. 4 business days from Singapore is quick!

Can confim as of November 2022 the hack still works :)

  • +2

Just ordered a Hero 11 Black for $475.97 using the subscription hack. Hopefully goes through ok. Also grabbed a 2pk Enduro Battery pack for $40.77.

    • did it go through?

      • Tracking status says it arrived in Aus yesterday. Should hopefully arrive early next week.

        • Weird I ordered on Monday and haven’t heard anything except for payment error for subscription. Hopefully I snuck through

          • @kev98: Odd, I received two emails a couple of days after ordering, one was an invoice, the other with a tracking number. Clicking on the tracking link it says it's in Botany (Sydney).

          • @kev98: They dont send to P.O. Boxes or parcel lockers, and there's issues with some addresses, since they haven't shipped after a business week there must be an issue, I'd contact them (and dont mention the subscription)… They dont notify you if there's an address issue, the order just hangs… (and I'd put money on it that it's not related to blocking the subscription payment.. In the 18-ish months this trick has worked I've never heard of an order being cancelled due to someone using this trick)

            • +1

@FLICKIT: All good- received the two emails a couple of hours ago (invoice + tracking). For some reason they just took their sweet time.

Seems like this little trick is still working

  • +1

Got an email last night to say it’ll ship soon. But that’s all at this stage.
