  • Is this literally just for boiling water? Can you cook in that pot?

    • +1

It's mostly for boiling water with max efficiency and speed. The stove on this one does have simmer control though, so you could cook in the pot but it would be awkward given its length. I use my flash for cooking rice all the time (although it doesn't always turn out great). This one also comes with a pot support so you can use a small pot/pan on it to cook.

    • If you want to cook, you'll want the minimo. It's currently $172ish on Amazon which is a great price - camelcamelcamel pinged me yesterday, was the first time ever the minimo had hit my price target. https://www.amazon.com.au/Jetboil-Minimo-Cooking-System-Grey…

      • Just checked, I paid $189 for the Minimo, 2.5 years ago now, so $172 is definitely a great price.

  • Seen these much cheaper on Alixpress but don’t know of quality difference.

  • Might want to have a look at camp master from kmart. They are hard to find in store, but you can order it online. No stabilizing legs like the Jetboil.

Camp master is fine for car camping, easy warm weather hikes and the like, but I wouldn't use for anything extreme.

I have one and it's great for boiling water when touring out the back of a car, but it falls flat when the weather or temperature is a bit lower.

I have the Jetboil Sumo and the Jetboil Genesis Basecamp. Both are awesome cooking devices and have changed how I camp. The gas control on Jetboils are the best I've tried and allow for very fine heat adjustments when cooking. Most gas cookers are either on or off with no inbetween.

I highly recommend Jetboil in general for portability and ease of use, they are expensive but at this price it's an easy decision. I paid $195 for my Sumo and thought it was a good price for the quality of product, $150 is a steal.

$49 from Kmart for a knock off. I've got one it has worked very well for the few times I've used it.
